Most people have no idea what omega vintage archives are, so there will never be swatch versions of those pieces. And yes, snoopy moon watch owners will be very pissed, but swatch group seems to care more about hype than the enthusiasts. They saw how successful Rolex is with marketing and hype, so they want to achieve that as well.

Agreed, vintage as a whole is basically an unknown subject for non watch-nerds like us. It wouldn't take-off, but it WOULD be cool for us! I don't agree with "snoopy moon watch owners will be very pissed" however. I'm a Silver Snoopy owner and I'm excited to see this release come through. Do I think it's gross and that Swatch is doing it for the money? Absolutely. But I don't feel like it diminishes my joy of owning either one of them. That's just me though. I'll develop my point a bit more in a separate comment shortly 👍

They sold a million moonswatches for n 2022 (according to Hodinkee). That’s a lot of money to walk away from. Not gonna happen. The “old catalog” won’t give them that much buzz. Piss people off? Why? I have the silver snoopy and I’m not pissed off over the moonswatch snoopy because it’s not the same watch.

I visited seven boutiques last week with Omega being the ONLY shop that was packed. Omega sales are up despite increased pricing, preowned Omega prices didn’t tank like many other marquee brands, Swatch caught fire with the casual watch buyer (and some collectors) people are talking about Swatch and Omega far in excess of what was budgeted for marketing. FACTS!It is extremely unlikely that any watch enthusiast (kudos for trying though) is going to out strategize these entities. The best you can reliably do is relate how the watch makes you feel as an individual rather than predict that these moves will have a negative impact on either Swatch or Omega as a whole. Not one person predicting doom and gloom with these collabs has been proven right.

Hey, great content but the watch community has a thing about exclusivity at the expense of expansion. Watch wearing is dying with the advent of smart watches and the industry must find ways to bring new people into the watch game. Making an entry-level Omega by Swatch is for the long haul and not for the past enthusiasts. Innovate or die. I love it!

That's not correction, that's Omega trying to play Rolex games (hype a watch, overcharge for it, restrict it's availability, try to drive demand up) and dismally failing. They don't have brand strength or desirability to play the game, or the balls by the look of what they allow to happen to the Omega logo and where they allow it to be put....on a plastic toy watch. As an embarrassed watch nerd who bought a Mission to Uranus, I wish Swatch could have stuck that watch up the last 4 letters of Uranus. This watch is an unmitigated piece of sh1t. The Blancpain scam didn't work because most people have realized that the Moonswatch is in fact just trash. I do have a Seamaster. If they make a plastic one, I just won't feel the same about it. To be clear I wasn't actually against Swatch doing a Moonswatch but they likely made that watch for $5 and sold it for $260. It's not even high quality enough or safe enough to give to a child, seeing as the pusher fell off mine, and I got a blue wrist, so who knows what chemical from the mix of recycled ceramic toilet bowls and chip shop oil used to make them leaches into your pores. That's my exact issue and why I don't own one. And that's what I want Swatch to change, to get out of the 80's and start working with the tech we have available in this decade. They can still keep the funky designs, but manufacture better made watches.

Great video as always Abdullah! Here's the thing, you know I own a Silver Snoopy - I'm not mad at all at this release. If anything (just like the original MoonSwatch release) I'm excited! Do I think that Swatch is doing it as a money-grab scenario because the Swatch x Blancpain release was a dud and paled in comparison to bring in revenue when compared to the original MoonSwatch release? Without a doubt. Is Swatch trying to recuperate some of that money by making something they know is a surefire success? Absolutely. Is it gross? Yes, it's super gross! But I'm also looking beyond the short term scenario. Let me explain: What the MoonSwatch release did for watch collecting in relation to bringing in new blood and fresh enthusiasts into the hobby, no other product has done since...well, since the Apple Watch was release. Yes it's a tiny computer on your wrist, and most would discount it as "not a real watch" but it successfully put an item that was able to tell the time on people's wrists. Same goes for the MoonSwatch release - whether it was hype (which it was to a good extent) or genuine word of mouth, interest, curiosity, or accidental discovery - more people in this world discovered the wide world of watches and I'm positively sure it brought in an influx of new enthusiasts. And on the subject of diluting the product line (be it the Speedmaster or the Silver Snoopy watches respectively) I look at it this way - there are millions of Mona Lisa re-prints, in various sizes, all over the world. They're not worth what the original is. Same goes for a real Speedmaster/Silver Snoopy. It's ok to have something that is less than the original, it will never reduce the value of the real thing - but it CAN bring joy to others and appreciation for art. Same goes for our watches. I don't see it as cheapening my Silver Snoopy - I see it as an avenue for more people to get to know what it is, and then hopefully they'll deepen their knowledge because of their curiosity to know more - and THEN they become super watch nerds like us 😆 Does all of this bring in more money to the Swatch group? Yes, yes it does. Is it still gross because they're doing it for the money? A bit, but even then, they're still a company that are trying to stay profitable in a market that has massively been impacted since April of 2022. Will I still enjoy watches and see them as a fun hobby that shouldn't be taken too seriously? You better believe it 😃 anyways, that's my 2 cents - keep up the awesome work my friend!

Love this take! I do get your point about Mona-Lisa print, because I own the Swatch x Jean-Michel Basquiat. Those artworks cost millions, yet I have it on a 100$ Swatch. I do get that Peanuts isn't exclusive to Omega, so other brands can use it. But based on some convos I've had with a few other collectors, they are appalled by this as this (to them) is cheapening the image of what the Silver Snoopy represents, which is a highly prestigious award. When other brands like Seiko or Timex collab with Snoopy, it's a cartoon. But with Omega, it's the Apollo 13 mission. I personally have no stake in the game, so I am looking at this from a neutral point of view. I'm not offended by it and would actually be happy to own one. But I still think Swatch needs a longer-term plan. But hey, if AP can retail their luxury status whilst making Spiderman watches... I guess Swatch and Omega can too 😆

I'm glad to hear your neutral and optimistic take on this. We keep seeing the watch community go into panic mode every time Swatch does one of these releases. However, like you mentioned what comes of these collaborations is more sales for both Omega and Swatch. There has to be a way to sew a brand into the conscience of gen Z outside of Rolex methods. Providing an affordable gateway while using the toy watch/ smart watch phenomenon is a great way to do this. Most brands think the next ten years will be filled with high horology and timeless design leading the pack. Meanwhile, the Hypebeast are taking over and here to stay. Even AP knows you gotta keep the Hypebeast happy (pay Cesar) 😅

@@miabeatz80 Thanks! You actually bring up one of the core examples that embodies this exact phenomena - and that's AP. You wouldn't know this (because it's still cooking) but in one of my recent podcasts (that again is still cooking and is not released) I actually speak with an AD as we sit down and discuss why for instance AP has decided to do collaboration pieces such as the Cactus Jack/AP instead of investing those finances into say, a new watch line that ISN'T the Royal Oak. My conclusion is (at least for now) there's no point in trying to win the battle if your'e going to lose the war. Appeasing veteran watch enthusiasts (that may be jaded) is a battle, securing new watch enthusiasts to ensure you have an actual future audience to sell up into bigger and better watches is the war. Micro vs. Macro level thinking. Short-term gains but long term losses. These companies think in decades and their planning, roadmapping, and product portfolio reflects this (or at least it should) because sustainable business that want to be around for the long run have to think in 4 different vectors (short/mid/long/experimental) 😃

I think it has been demonstrated that the marketing strategy is flawless, and it helps showcase brands and models that perhaps not everyone outside the watch community knows. This, in turn, helps create a growing interest from people who desire the original pieces. However, the problem is that they must understand that the more they do it, the more they will bore the market. MoonSwatch was a milestone because something like that had never happened before. I am eagerly awaiting the new Snoopy to see if I can get my hands on it.

From my experience as watch seller with the retailor i'm with for 2 years, they only sell around 2-4 Omega speedmaster snoopy a year, at least what i heard of, maybe more maybe less, i saw it twice in my life in the shops one was in a Multi-brand, the other in Omega Boutique. a beautiful piece, i think the moonswatch is a bad decision from their side TBH, i think they want to advertise it in a way but i doubt it will do much in the positive direction.

As an owner of a couple fairly special Speedmasters, including a Silver Snoopy, I was actually nervous about what they were up to. I really have no issues with the MoonSwatch… but do hope they protect the special nature of combining Snoopy and Moonwatch. It would be a shame to dilute how important that award was to the NASA and Speedmaster relationship.

I believe the real reason for there is no hype for Blancpain X Swatch vs Moonswatch is that general public is more familiar with Omega. Blancpain is few levels up and has a much smaller clientele.

Hi Abdullah, I completely missed this on the Swatch news, that being said, there are only 3 version of the sliver snoopy that we know off, it is possible that Swatch is going to stuff this up by making coloured versions of these, like they did with the moonwatch? While I know which 2 I would like to see most is the Apollo 13, and the animated one, I would also hope when they do sell these, that they do so online, use real sapphire crystal on the glass and make the movement automatic, that way anyone who has a real one is not left feeling cheated with the fake one arriving. (The real one is mechanical.) Also the price needs to be reasonable, as lately this has just got out of hand. (Blame Swatch & flippers for that one!) As for the watches themselves, I got to see the animated one in real life, my boss who is watch crazy had one and, imagine if I told him that this prize watch, (which took ages to get, by the way), is going to be made as a plastic substitute. I lived for that day, to tell him! As for other remakes, the 007 sounds plausible, seamaster is a good watch, I know this because I have one, and Omega must be quaking in their boots every time Swatch comes up with something like this, as no-matter what you say, is does hurt, all that effort, reduced to a plastic watch designed by craftsmen and then only to be butchered & built by robots. The Genie is out of the bottle.

If you genuinely believe this, how many of the 400,000 people who worked on the Apollo project were in on it? Because the project did happen, we did build rockets, we did send them up from Cape Canaveral. The tracking and communication did happen (by whatever means) capsules containing "returning astronauts" were picked up at sea. Did we fake the failures too? Did we fake the Apollo 13 near disaster? Are the pics of the landing site taken decades later by the LROC fake too? 😂

Footprints in moon dust yes but no dust from rocket drive of lunar vehicle. And they never returned since. And they lost original video footage. And they lost technology so that is Why they cannot repeat the Endeavour. (?).
