Robi's shirt is hilarious.... One of the first times I visited NOLA, in the early/Mid 90's (?) my wife & I were just strolling down Bourbon and we were approached by a local who 'warned us' that we were entering the 'gay part' of Bourbon. About a block later we came upon the Pub, which had guys or maybe drag queens (I don't recall) dancing on the bar. This was of course well before rainbow flags and the like... The historical knowledge and background is truly outstanding. I was hoping we would get a little Storyville bit. Keep up the great work !

As an old New Orleanian, I was pleased to see at 0:05 that the scene included something always missing in videos---the gutters of the French Quarter are sections of hand-cut stone. Like the lacy wrought iron work, the enormous amount of labor involved is just part of our surroundings. After Pearl Harbor, the people of New Orleans were planning to melt down all the balconies for steel/This fortunately didn't happen.

Great video. The stories about LGBTQ+ New Orleans are heartbreaking and uplifting. I loved the care taken over being accurate in the depictions of history. The richness of our story in this city is amazing. (One thing: "Weren't playing Black music": Well, they were most likely playing White appropriation of Black music.) i saw Varla Jean Merman in P-Town; she began her show with a rendition of "My Favorite Things" in hip-hop language! Andrew didn't "officially come out"; he does not have to. If he is straight, then he is the best kind of ally: knowledgeable and empathetic. Plus, he's got a great posterior!

I know this video was filmed some time ago but really enjoyed the history lesson for the community. It's 2023, and Southern Decadence just ended, I wish we could see a business shared relationship between all the Gay Bar and Business owners. Such a Gay Power House could exist to make New Orleans the Gay Meca of the world. Simple things like running Gay New Orleans Advertising Ads in every city that flies direct airline flights into New Orleans. Many Gay bars throughout the country have a Gay Pamphlet or Gay Guide where ads are inexpensive. We can't continue losing Gay travel dollars to Wilton Manors and Ft. Lauderdale. As a gay community, we must get back to supporting all of our Gay bars. We may have disagreements with owners but we all have friends that work for these bars that need our dollars.

Thank you for this great video! Although gone for many years I still miss New Orleans. Somethings like Lafitte's and the Bourbon Pub never change, but it is good to see new venues and to know that the gay community is thriving. I actually knew the priest from St. Georges. He was a wonderful man who told me that he got into a lot of trouble for holding the memorial service in 1973. He never regretted it, and when I knew him in the '80's, he was working to establish a chapter of Integrity, the LGBTQ+ organization for gay Episcopalians (the Anglican version of Dignity)

One day everyone will simply accept each other as they are . Prejudice is a harmful and useless thing . I decide who is a friend or not based on how that person treats me . Life would be so boring if we were a carbon copies ...don't you think ? ps you three are a hoot and if I lived there ,you would be the kind of personalities I would love to hang with :) Thanks for the history lesson it was eye opening and honest :)

I found this video quite late, but I really enjoyed it. I've always seemed to gravitate towards LGBT people, so I think I would like all of you guys!! I could even tell without any of you ever mentioning it. I may not be part of the official community, but I will always be an Ally!!! 💯🏳️🌈

You’ve got to go. I’m a native who moved away 20 years ago and I still miss it terribly.

@@surlypiratewench1969 I've been to New Orleans, just not during Marti Gras or a pride tour. The way my mobility is right now, I'm not sure if I could handle that many people at one time. It was crowded enough on an average Saturday night....lol

You 3 are a great team .The fire incident is sad and tragic .New Orleans has a rich history for the LGBT community! I bet it takes you a bit of research to make a video. Thanks!
