@@ArbitraryFilmings The biggest difference apart from build quality is the monumental difference in driving dynamics and ride quality in favour of the Taycan compared to the Model S. I think only that is worth the price difference but this of course depends on what you value in a car.

And with the options he mentions in the video it is more expensive than a model s long range. I’m at a loss on what to choose? Porsche has better dynamics and build quality, but even with the options the Tesla has way more tech/equipment as standard, way more power, interior space, much bigger trunk and range etc.

For me, the 19-inch wheels are really growing on me. I like the thicker side walls and I also know that this tyre will give better range and comfort. Very likely less weight too so probably better acceleration. If you're speccing this car think very, very hard before going for bigger wheels.

Aah the B4494, that road has a lovely high speed kink in it, further on a cracking left hand bend as you go up the hill! When I lived in Newbury often used to drive along to that road to Wantage.

The one to buy is the Cross Tourismo 4 because it has more power, 4wd, bigger battery and air suspension already included and it can take bigger cargo, a bike-rack, a roof box and you have so much headroom in the back. 👌

I had an opportunity to drive the Taycan at my Porsche dealer this week. I agree that the B pillar is a problem . It does sit too far forward for tall drivers. i'm 6'4"...and entering and exiting the vehicle was quite awkward.

I agree with most of the Must hav options. Don't see a bigger point in the RWS though. I drove a Taycan 4S without it and was now also able to test-drive a 4S with the rear wheel steering and I must say apart from an slightly easier parking did not feel any difference. The 4S without that feature felt already very nimble on small roads.

my Taycan coming soon, Q1 22. Having had an ipace for 2.5 years with a real world milage of 220, I think for most ppl the Taycan 93kwh battery pack for £4K is an unnecessary option. An extra 30 miles or 15 if it’s a return journey “may” come in handy 2-3 times during ownership. if it was 100 miles extra fair enough, but I can’t see the point for 30. Also, I bet most Taycan drivers have a 2nd car that is petrol powered and can be used for the extra long journey. Spend the money elsewhere as the options list is endless.

Joe, you make a great job on yet! I own my first EV - TM3P. And complain for to big 20” rims affecting range and being the problem in a city. Press car you’ve driven here has S aero wheels (not looking great but acceptable), not basic aero (which looks bad). And I recommend to keep the Aero S for the range. Completely agree with you must have list. I strongly consider jump to Cross Tourismo. It has bigger battery, awd and air suspension as a standard. Sunroof, 4 steering wheels and heat pump are my must have options. Looking forward to see your test of Grand Tourismo!

Problem with the financing argument and setting aside £10k for options is that Porsche don’t offer any discounts so the price you see is the price you pay. Additionally, on a three year PCP agreement, every £1000 is adding £33/month onto your monthly so for 10k you’re looking at £330/month just for the options. I guess that’s what makes Porsche so expensive rather than the actual base list prices...

Some reviewers have stated there is some initial hesitation when launching the BASE Taycan. The Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is almost a half second quicker, I suspect due to it being AWD. Hopefully that also addresses the hesitation. Would make me nuts, especially on an EV where you expect near instant response.

Love your reviews Joe and congrats on getting to 150K! Your first Porsche but would be good to safeguard a bit of objectivity. For example quite funny to compare a car that costs well over twice what the equivalent (same speed/range/2WD) Model 3 does and then say that Tesla's "run out of puff" at higher speed due to not having a gearbox. At what speed would that would be - Autobahn :) ? You can get a Model S Long Range for what this costs! See how the acceleration comparison holds up then. Don't get me wrong, I like this Taycan in theory and can see how it differentiates (in some good ways) from Tesla, which is more than what you can say about any BEV competitor, but the price of this thing is just really, really silly. They could maybe tempt me if this was 40% less, but as it stands, no chance!

Ordered my Carmine Red model. Got a December build slot. Agree with extras comment but went with 21" wheels and stuck with the springs as opposed to fancy airy fairy suspension. In theory 100% this over a Tesla. However in reality if you want a car that can do a long journey there is only one brand you can get...and that is Tesla. Until the rapid charging infrastructure is in place, it is only useful as a town car. I had a model S for a couple of years and even with the supercharger network it is not always straightforward.
