I also release the food only when they sit and lick my hand. In the house, you've become part of our fostering journey...there is a lot of "well.. Rachel said...." lol Thanks for all you do!

This has helped so much.. my new little baby cries so bad in his crate at night but when I moved the crate in my room he settles down within about 5 minutes of getting in for the night.. so far, about 4 hours after bedtime I get up to bring him to potty and we haven't had any accidents and he actually is loving his bed and will go in there during the day to take his nap... your videos have been more helpful than any other videos I've watched we have had amazing results so far and I feel like im understanding him better than I've ever understood any pet 🤗

Should they only be in a crate or can they be in your lap for comfort? Great idea! Thank you for sharing (and fir being here) 🙏 Confidence often comes from working with your pup on basic cues, obedience, socializing and brain games. The more your pup successfully completes these activities the more confidence they can build! It takes practice and a lot of reps. Sort of like riding a bike 🚲

You said your puppy may have to go outside for business every one to 3-4 hours. I have been taking my now 10 week old puppy outside for her business every 15-20 minutes for the 5-6 days I’ve had her, (except for overnight when she’s held it for up to 6 hours- yay!!) to be extra certain I don’t have any accidents to clean up!! Am I over doing it? I see her sniffing, or seeming like she’s looking for something and don’t want to risk her forming a substrate preference for area rugs or slate tile!!! I have had 3 small chihuahuas and a chi mixes for the last 18 years (the only little one still with me is 18 currently, and I also have an almost 8 y/o American Bully that is incredibly well trained and gives me zero trouble ever), they- the littles-were soooo hard to potty train! I am now living in the first home my husband and I have ever owned, and I would do literally almost anything to avoid my new American bully puppy treating our first home as a bathroom. After all of the years of accidents (on purposes lol) it’s not negotiable for me, especially here, where we have a 1930 Dutch colonial with original hardwoods that aren’t as easy to keep nice as, say, vinyl flooring. I have to admit, I am completely worn out!! I feel like I have a toddler on crack! She doesn’t sit still for more than 3 minutes at a time and I spend my day walking around the house following her everywhere and taking her out constantly, and of course lots of short training/play times! I can only relax during crate time, but it’s really important to me that the crate isn’t overused and that she doesn’t feel like it’s a punishment. I have watched hours of your videos and am learning a lot about where I went wrong with my previous little dogs, and even what to do since my new puppy (Teagan), wants to play with my 2 older dogs, and they want nothing to do with her!! Thank you so much for all of your useful tips and tricks!!! I am just wondering if I may be overdoing it with the very frequent bathroom trips outside? With the way I’ve been doing this, she has only had 2 small accidents inside since bringing her home, but I am definitely exhausted and overwhelmed!! Any suggestions?

One piece of advice I've heard for a young puppy spending his or her first time with you is to give the puppy a hot water bottle and a ticking clock. This will remind the puppy of sleeping with warm littermates and hearing the mother's heartbeat and make the puppy more comfortable and so shorten the period of whining and crying.
