In this video I build a large quarantine pond in my garage and install a new air source heater to heat the water.

Their fantastic mate. Next Thursday it will have been running for one month and it's used about £30 to keep the temperature at 22c. Can't fault them. Hardly any noise either.

Hi - quick random question - do you know where I could source replacement pipe nuts and rubber seals from? Try as I may I can't find anyone that stocks them. Thanks!

Hi mate is the air source still working ok 3 years on ?

Great video thank you for sharing just wondering on the heat pump at what temperature does it stop working? I,e -5 or lower? Plus does the heat pump start back up if the water temp drops 1degree lower than the set temp? Once again great video👍
@Mythril19766 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your nice comment. These particular Air Source Heaters can work down to -15c and still extrapolate heat from the atmosphere. The Air Source Heater will automatically turn back on once the water temperature goes 2 degrees lower and heat the water back to your desired level. Mine has been running for nearly a week now and to keep the water temperature at 15c it's only cost me just over £3 to run so it's saving me money already !

It's made by a company called Crystal Enterprise. They have several different sizes. Mine is a 5.5 KW and I think they retail at £815. As for the lifespan of the unit, I couldn't say. They have two years warranty and I know someone with several of them. None of them have missed a heartbeat yet.
@johnhope98736 жыл бұрын
Hi I only have a 1200 gallon pond what size heat pump would you recommend. Also the bigger the unit is it cheaper to run or would a 3kw 1 be ok for the size of my pond
@Mythril19766 жыл бұрын
Hi John. I faced this problem when I was purchasing mine. The 3KW would do the trick but may struggle a little once temperatures plummet so I opted for the 5.5KW. And I'm glad I did with the weather we've been having recently. It never missed a heartbeat. Personally speaking, and if the bank says it's okay, I would go for the 5.5KW. At least you know you've enough guts under the hood to maintain a steady temperature. Plus the running cost should be a little less over time as it will be able to reach temperature quicker. Hope this helps.

Hi, Great video. I was just wondering whether you've sealed the end of the polycarbonate sheeting. I've just got some for my set-up but I'm worried about them becoming filled with algae in future. Keep up the great work, Simon
@Mythril19765 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon. You can seal the ends of the Polycarbonate sheets if you desire. Personally, I would. The pond in this video was only a temporary one. On the new grow on vat that's now in the garage, I have sealed the ends up and made a proper frame to keep the heat in.
@fearno18395 жыл бұрын
@@Mythril1976 Great. How did you seal them?
@Mythril19765 жыл бұрын
@@fearno1839 You can seal it with either insulation tape or just normal gaffa tape.

At 14:25 why is the casing of the meter moving but the screen stays perfectly still ? Great pond and setup, just watched all your video's thanks. :)

Hi Simon. I noticed this when I was compiling the video and put it down to the camera on the phone not being able to focus correctly. I can assure you, it's genuine lol.

No no, I didn't think that. I mean there is no point faking it lol. I just couldn't work out what was going on and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Thanks for the reply. Loving the whole setup. I have subscribed, so look forward to more videos. Cheers for the content.

Hi mate great set up im just wondering how you got on with it though the winter and what temp it kept your water at as I'm looking into buying the 8.5 for my 3000g pond. What size is your pond ? Cheers
@Mythril19765 жыл бұрын
Hi. It was used on a 4000l pond inside the garage. I was heat ramping for a couple of months so the temp went from 6c to 26c several times. After the heat ramping was complete, a temp of 22c was set.

Thanks 👍 I have a trade account but most reputable dealers can get hold of them. Google Crystal Enterprise and there's lots of links.

Hi. All Koi had only really just been introduced to their new environment before I shot that video. They originally came from a very cold, unheated pond so a settling down period is to be expected whilst they adjust. They are now very much active and on the hunt for food. Currently they are sat in 22 degrees water.
