I genuinely wouldnt be surprised if they count each individual click on the video as a separate viewer. So essentially if 10 million people show up for each episode over 4 episodes, then they can release articles like this one and say "we've had 40 million viewers". Big companies like this usually pull out every trick in the book to fluff up their numbers to try to mislead investors.

They probably count each click as multiple views. If the Amazon Prime account has four people attached to it, I'd wager they "assume" all four people watched together and count accordingly.

After suffering through Season 1, I only lasted 20 minutes into episode 1 of Season 2. It was so bad that I couldn't even enjoy hate watching it nor even watch the YT videos tearing it to pieces. It's just pure ugliness on every human level.

There are a growing number of stories of people falling asleep watching it, waking up and finding it's reloaded and replayed. And testing this. "Viewers", or "partial views"? We live in a post-truth era. As someone from before the post-truth era, I'm not just offended by the lies of this show and its makers, but the production company. I remember years ago how this show was being run by good writers and they were reviving the new Zealand film industry and trying to follow Peter Jackson's path on the development. Then in like 2017 or 18, rumors started swirling that bozos wasn't happy and wanted it more "diverse" and that his first batch or writers were too focused on being loyal to the source material. They all got fired, amazon ditched the new Zealand idea.... Basically anything good was removed lol. Now we got this mess.

When comparing the minutes watched with the acolyte, it's important to also keep in mind that its episodes are significantly shorter than those of the rings of prime, and while the acolyte was already very expensive, it's barely in the same order of magnitude if you assume the one billion will be the actual total after season 5. As for the fans, if you consider how the silmarillion is almost a historical text in style, and definitely a departure from the hobbit and the lord of the rings, anyone diving into that and other posthumous works will be very unlikely to have much tolerance for deviations from the known lore, and that's before accounting for how badly written the show is. With how things are going, even if they could somehow spit out three other seasons without speding a dollar on them, I think the would struggle making back the budget already spent, let alone turn a profit on it.

​@@katharina8963 Equally cringe, but less evil in terms of symbolism. Tolkien's Galadriel represented purity and wisdom on a cosmic level. Sauron represented manipulation and lust for power on a cosmic level. You can do the good girl/evil guy pairing with something like Phantom of the Opera. It's actually redemptive and uplifting in that context. But that doesn't work in a Tolkien context with these two characters.

Thats 363 thousand households a day. Thats ridiculously low viewership. Thats one third the population of Houston texas a day watching it. For more context, Seinfelds last episode had 100 million viewers the single day of the episode. One day it had 100 million views. This show got one third that many views in 11 days. Its such low view's that this show is beyond a failure. Im honestly glad because they ruined the lore, everything about this show was done wrong.

I kind of feel sorry for the people who have worked on it. I'm sure there are some talented people that were hoping to make a name for themselves, not be associated with a failure, maybe the biggest failure. People will use this show as a benchmark for failure. Like in that film Kingpin where the guys name was used to describe failure. "The guy was totally munson-ed" lol. I hate the show runners so much for this I hope they never get to work again in the industry. Waited my whole life to see the 1st or 2nd age adapted to film and they completely disrespected every aspect of it. The 2nd age has so many epic events that happen in it and these show runners have made it like it means nothing. It's a horrible adaptation and ... everything about it is trash. Hopefully Amazon cancels and sells the ip and some other streaming games service does it right. Because it would be amazing if done right.
