I’m a fan of the Homage. For commuting in any weather, the HS version with the eRohloff set up can handle pretty much anything you throw at it and is maintenance free. This is how you turn a 1hour and 10 minute commute by public transport into 45 minutes.

Full suspension commuters make a lot of sense in Europe because of the C-o-o-o-b-b-b-b-l-e-s-t-o-o-o-o-n-e. But even regardless of the road surface it's still super handy to be able to hop down curbs without worrying about being thrown all over the place especially when you're loaded up with groceries or have a child seat on the back.

You know one feature I'd love to see on a R&M (or any bike for that matter) is the ability to raise and lower the handlebars either electronically or in a similar fashion to the seat dropper post. Sometimes you want the bar higher to reduce fatigue on long trips and other times you want a more aerodynamic stance to make the best of slopes. Just a thought that I hope comes true.

Nice review Chris. I think you should talk a bit more about the shifting experience on these bikes. I had a belt drive bike with twist shifter and it was kind of awful. That is not an easy motion for the wrist to be doing all the time. I tried the automatic shifting on a Specialized bike with an Enviolo hub and couldn't believe how fun it was. Not sure I would get another bike without it. Also I would like to know how easy it is to use the electronic shifter buttons on the R&M and when you would even need them with an auto shifting bike ? My Vado with the auto has no additional shifting buttons and I don't find a need for them. Thanks

I would be perfectly happy with no suspension at all by the way, but if you go trew a big bumb, it would be nice that both your wheeles can handle it. @marcb12893 жыл бұрын
After nearly 3 months (and 2 transports between France and Germany...) I have my Homage back ! Front carrier and bag have been installed (for the time being, I am not fond of this front bag because it is not practical at all to close it). Now I need to shorten a bit the handlebar (which is more than 70 cm wide, that is far too wide for my tastes, and my shoulders and arms). Looking to the fork, I have been surprised to discover that this Suntour Aion is for 29' wheel, according to stickers on it, and not for 27.5. Second surprise comes from R&M site: according to new specifications, a Marzocchi fork (Marzocchi Bomber Z2, Air, tapered, 100mm) should be installed at front of the Homage, instead of the Suntour Aion. Do you know why this change occurs ? Edit: I have checked some other R&M bikes'specifications: other bikes (Delite, Superdelite, Supercharger) use also Mazorchi forks, instead of Suntour.

Great review thank you! I'm interested in the Rolloff button operation instead of the twist shifter, which hurts my old hands after a while. Is the button shift easy to operate or do you have to push them quite hard to change gear?
@jimji2774 Жыл бұрын
I have a Specialized Vado with auto shifting that has no shifter buttons. I believe those buttons would only occasionally be needed for instance if you encountered a really steep hill and had the Rolhof controller set not to down shift to a low enough gear thus you wouldn't be using them much. Auto shifting is the best.

Hi Chris, quick question. What is the lifespan in the Bosch motor? How long do they plan on stocking these particular motors and parts for them? Where my question is coming from us the integration of the motor with the frame. It seems to me if they are already in generation 4, and the shape changed each generation, then the lifespan of this very expensive bike will be limited?
@Propelbikes3 жыл бұрын
There is a minimum commitment to support the system for 7 years after production stops, but the reality is Bosch won’t stand in anyone’s way if they stop offering this. Think of the way the automotive market works. Service kits already exist for older systems that need it and backwards compatibility is baked into the Bosch model.

There are two parts to the seat post tube, a fixed part at the base which you can adjust up and down to your height like a normal seat post, then an upper part which you can raise and lower to any position between the top and bottom stops (over maybe 7 inches range). First set the bottom part to your height with full extension on the top part. The bike shop should do this when you collect. When your weight is on the seat and you push the lever, the seat will drop all the way to the bottom stop. Then stand up on the pedals, hit the lever and the seat will rise up until it meets your butt or the top stop. So it's kind of self adjusting. Or you can crouch lower and it will stop lower when it hits your butt. Its adjustable to anywhere in that 7 inch range. My son is shorter than me and it's really nice to adjust it quickly to his leg length when he wants to ride it. He pushes it down with his forearm, gets on, stands up on the pedals at full leg extension and the seat raises to meet his butt and stops. Let go of the lever and its locked off at the perfect height for him. Super gadget.

350lbs is beyond the recommended weight and you would likely bottom out the suspension. I think a hardtail with wide tires and a suspension post is a better way to go. The Kinect XXL is a great post as well.

The Homage has to be the most beautiful bike in the entire R&M range? Now with the new dual battery, and latest Bosch HS motor, it is pure poetry in motion. Can u get me one to South Africa?

I wish I could afford something like this, but I'm stuck with a low budget for my first ebike. This thing rocks though!

I think you’re not alone here. Maybe there is one in your future? Which bike do you have now?

@@Propelbikes I don't have an ebike yet. I've been shopping for my first, while waiting for my tax refund to hit my bank! lol There are a lot of factors, money is just one of them. I live in an apartment in Brooklyn, so the size of the bikes comes into play too, because of the elevator! Security is another issue for parking outside at work. Oh brother!! lol Great R&M review though, and a beautiful bike!

@@musicmann1967 it's an economical alternitive. and it's fast. lol it's not an ebike in that he has to peddle, i think it just goes with the twist of the throttle.

I like your jacket. May I ask what brand this is? Would love to see a video about suitable bags for riese & müller bikes.

The new front rack bag looks to be out. I see first pics on the RM site on the configurator. More details would be great though. I have Ortlieb rear panniers on my superdelite and am very happy with them. There is a horizontal pack which connects over the top of them too which is cool. But I'm still waiting on the front pack specs.

@@Propelbikes do you think I can fit the Rohloff in it even if it comes with chain transmission?
@Propelbikes3 жыл бұрын
It could be possible, but it will be a big challenge. You won’t be able to accommodate the belt and you will need to reprogram the motor to use the electronic e-14 which Bianchi likely won’t allow

I appreciate that these are very premium bikes built to last..and you could buy a bunch of junky ones for the same price .

Why no indicators at that price?Vespa electrica has it all at a much lower price and you can carry two adults with no pedaling! BGood review though.

I like that homage has 1250wh vs the 1125wh on superdelite and I really like the blue. I just don't like the aesthetic of that straight bar in back, it looks odd to me. I'm not a girl, I don't wear dresses and I'm not 70 years old, so a step through is not for me. Too bad the superdelite doesn't have 1250wh. I'm sure that's not going to affect the range too much anyway.
