Bill Maher is the most sane, logical, and honest liberal I've seen. He's the role model of liberalists, REAL liberalists. The down road that liberalism went to and be "Social Liberalism" is the dead end of moral principles that Liberalism used to have. Those liberals whom Bill Maher always make fun of are the ones who distorted the core principles of liberalism.

Women, gays, trans, non-whites, dispossessed white working class, ALL of us benefit if we unite as LIBERALS for decent wages, equal treatment, opportunity, local economic health. Having an actual depression, as opposed to a recession is what the market needs to correct itself. We have an excess waste in every aspect of our economy because of inflationary tactics. It sucks, but the sooner the better. We haven’t learned from 08. We made it much worse. Look at our housing market…..

Not, only that, Bill Maher with the obscured vision of his privilege, doesnt realize that the reason these issues like Biden's opposition to bussing (i.e. integration) are being discussed now, was because when those issues were occurring 30 yrs ago Black people in America did not have a voice on the political stage, literally or figuratively. Kamala Harris is literally on the stage, because of bussing , which was necessary for her to get a good education because the Black schools were so underfunded and neglected by government (still are). Harris also threaded the needle when she made the argument that Biden's willingness to COMPROMISE on issues such as bussing would actually COMPROMISE people and make their lives worse off. Biden is the one who brought up his great relationship with segregationists, while his entire stance in this election is that he will be willing to work with Repubicans. His worldview, that compromising with people that he doesnt agree with morally is the way to get things done is PROBLEMATIC A.F. and precisley why he should not be elected. The Republicans take no prisoners and DNGAF. The Democratic nominee should deeply understand that. Compromising , means Biden will accomplish nothing meaningful, which is exactly why he told his donors "IF i'm elected, nothing will change"

Funny how Bernie Sanders could apparently "see the future" and managed to be on the right side of every social AND political issue way before mainstream culture shifted to match his views. Individuals CAN be more evolved than the majority of their peers and therefore "ahead of their time". Many are. We aren't all just going with whatever the mainstream culture says. Some of us learn to question conventional norms and actually think for ourselves. Bernie did. Clearly, as his very long and well documented record shows. He never had to be dragged to the right side of history by popular opinion and poll numbers, like his colleagues. So why precisely should we settle for a mediocre thinker like Biden when we have someone like Bernie on offer? We're electing a leader, yes? Not an office temp? We're allowed to demand actual leadership ability and independent thinking skills? Yes? No? Should we just settle for a Biden because, what, he eventually came around?

Let's talk about "out of touch": Biden cosinged on a segregationist policy *a dacade after* the Civil Rights Act. "Pobody's nerfect" is a bad way to explain away racism at a time when it was already unpopular. On top of that, when confronted about it in the Year of Our Lord 2019, not only does he not even gesture in the general direction of regret, but in fact attempts to rationalise that move on the grounds of "compromise". Essentially, he continues to defend the mechanism by which horrendous policies are enhacted. Whether or not he continues to be a racist (or even if he ever was a racist) makes 0 practical difference. Biden is a groping mysogynist with no clear vision or policy proposal whose brain is melting in real time to boot. There are nearly 30 other contenders competing with him, plenty of which can claim the "electabily" factor (read: "old, rich, white male"). His presence will not be missed.

So a voting record is pointless? Someone's record and trend is not a valid source of someones position?
@justin79811
@justin79811 4 жыл бұрын
A true politician votes for what their people want but fights for them to believe what is better so they can vote for what their people evolve to want next. Anything different is a dictatorship or the elite telling the "little people" what they "should" want. So no, a voting record should only be used to see if it matches the historical wants and Trends towards better.

A voting record is not pointless, however it is only one metric of a politician's true beliefs or goals. There are many other variables to factor in when measuring the sum total.

@john smith Fuck sake what you just said is actually dumber than Bill's incoherent rant. First, his point was people and social norms evolve AND used a nonsequitur to go from that to the justification of irrational beliefs. Second, that's the entire reason why Bill's rant is incoherent. It doesn't fucking matter what most people believe, logic doesn't change. It wouldn't matter if everyone in 1980 thought 2+2=3, they would all still be fucking idiots. Third, he implies you need to be a future teller to know what's right and wrong, which is absolutely beyond insane. You don't figure out what's right or wrong by looking into a crystal ball and finding out what the social norms are in the future, you figure them out by reasoning. Fourth, Biden said this shit in the 80s, when 71%, not 2%, of women, ere in the workforce you fucking clueless retard. And lastly, literature on women's equality goes back at least 200 years before Biden made those comments. It wasn't exactly a new idea. Bernie Sanders is the same age, and he's been on the right side of all these issues his entire life. So again, wtf is Biden's excuse? It's absolutely astounding how you were able to fill so much bullshit into such few words.

Oh wait, they haven't. *More importantly though:* You talk about how it happened in the 70s, such a different time, and in the next sentence talk about Harris' actions from fucking 2010 that she says she is proud of and wants to continue as president. How should you not be called out for that? Fuck's sake Maher, what happened..

This is my biggest worry regarding next year's US election. The candidates are starting to attack eachother in ways that will be hard to walk-back on, depending on who gets the nomination. Likewise, Democratic supporters are becoming factionalised along these lines. My concern is, these supporters won't be able to put their grievances aside if their preferred candidate isn't the one nominated, and abstain from voting as a 'protest.' This will just hand the election to Trump again.

I can relate to this... I once tried to pleaded the case for Jefferson in a debate where people condemned him as a monster because he had slaves. I was trying to bring up the fact that although slavery is morally wrong by today's standards, when you're immersed in a society where everybody thinks it's right to own another human being's life, it takes a lot of time before to change such a state of affairs. You're born in a certain world with imperfect values, and it may take many generations before changes that might seem obvious to future generations finally happen. For instance, tolerating that filthily rich people pay no taxes might be unthinkable for people who will be born in the 22nd century. If we make it until then...

@@ktoth29 Yes but if you owned a business and could compete without owning slaves, would you have done it? if it was only possible to make money if you had slaves, why not treat them well, give them some share of the assets for example? I don't know if Jefferson was nasty to his slaves but I can't believe that he did not have a choice; he could have been as rich even if he paid his slaves some money. He was a well traveled man, he must have seen countries where they had abolished slavery during the Age of Enlightenment. Seeing that and still coming back to a country where they treated black people (or any type of people) really badly shows the complete lack of character Jefferson must have had.
@ktoth29
@ktoth29 4 жыл бұрын
@@bluceree7312 My attitude is that slavery wasn't so much a "moral choice" in the 17th century as it was a normal fact of life for everyone, not exclusively blacks. For example it was common practice for the British Navy to impress any able bodied man into service when they were short handed, and service in the British navy could be quite barbaric. There was also a thriving Mediterranean slave trade at the time where thousands of people from southern europe were captured and sold as slaves in the Ottoman empire, The US went to war with the Barbary pirates over it. Up until the industrial revolution, some form of unfree agricultural labor was neccesary to feed the population and avoid famine, and the vast majority of europeans were peasants who had no legal rights up until a decade or so before the US Civil war. In that context, slavery was not a historical anomoly unique to the US but an extension of the feudal system which had existed in Europe since Roman times. The evil of slavery is not that people were born into a life of servitude, but that the system of racial discrimination was institutionalized and perpetuated long after it had outlived its economic utility.
