I’m not a Republican, but I am a generally conservative guy. With that said, I consistently made many of these same points to my pro-Trump friends, simply reminding them of their dislike when the same thing (or something similar) was done on the left. A few examples: republicans were critical of Obama’s lack of political experience, stating that it was a detriment to his presidential ambitions; yet, they touted Trump’s lack of political experience as a valuable asset. When republicans decry cancel culture (rightfully so, generally speaking), I’m always quick to remind them of when the right was all too happy to cancel the Dixie Chicks when they dared to criticize Bush from the stage, while on tour in Europe.

Very true, and happens to both sides. There are plenty of times where something is said that couldn't be said by the opposite party. I can think of two recent examples. One was a television commercial where a woman fat shamed her husband about joining a gym with all this money they were saving. The other one was that high school girl gun crusader Emma Gonzales snubbing Kanye West's admiration (likely because he recently endorsed Trump). We let politics divide us into neat little boxes way too much.

Unfortunately it isn’t, thus your comparison is pointless. But in fairness, even if one does ignore this detail, what you conveniently forget is that the GOP majority in Congress during #44’s term explicitly and publicly declared its goal was to make Obama a one-term president. This effectively limited his ability to enact most of the legislation/policies that he had campaigned to do. Considering Trump has a GOP majority in both the Senate and the House, it seems reasonable to expect lots of GOP favorable policies would be easily enacted, right? But he hasn’t done so at any significant pace this first year. Why is that so? Simple. He’s an obfuscating wind bag that is under the impression he’s proficient at everything. Read some transcripts of Trump’s speeches. His thoughts are incoherent if they aren’t drafted by speech writers. And when he does read a TelePrompTer speech, it is rather obvious and he hasn’t bothered to even preview the speech once before speaking. He misreads words, takes awkward pauses. The man displays not an ounce of humbleness. And NO, I’m not a liberal elitist. I’m just a analytical thinker that seeks to understand why and asks questions as opposed to believing everything that is presented as fact.

Politics should never have become a team sport. If we all voted based on personal politics rather than conscript ourselves to a two party system run by corporations (the DNC and RNC are quite literally corporations) then we would be far better off. Stop calling the kettle black and actually listen to the other side, both have fair points to make. I'm a centrist and current politics are very frustrating for me to watch. The dems, led by Obama, largely ignored the failing middle class and they revolted as a result. Trump has done a lot of stupid things, but he is the most visible and accessible president that we have had in my lifetime and he actually has average people talking politics on a regular basis. I believe we need national healthcare, but Obamacare was an abject failure that hurt the poorest and most vulnerable among us, and arguably did more harm than good in essentially all cases except where someone had a catastrophic health problem. A plan that costs $300 a month with a $10,000 deductible for a family that earns less than $20,000 a year is not a functioning health care system. Does this make me far right in your eyes because I speak out against Obamacare? I also believe in enforcing laws that are on the books as a requirement for maintaining a healthy democracy, which include immigration laws. We all know that illegal aliens are abused by businesses, but that doesn't mean that we should reward bad behavior (crossing or staying illegally) by pushing them to the front of the immigration line like Obama did (although Obama did deport over 3 million people while in office, which was a record, but you never hear the MSM talk about that). If they are indeed suffering unjustly in their native lands, then we have a system where they can apply for refugee or asylum status. If they are just here to work and send money home, then they should go through the process properly and prove that they will be a model citizen when they do get through. If we, as a society want to change the rules for immigration because they're too tough, then I can get behind that. However we are a democratic society and you must put forth a bill to Congress to change the laws first, not merely issue Executive Orders. Executive Orders are flimsy and can be easily overturned when a new POTUS is in office, as we see happening now. I'm not sure what Obama was thinking at the time, but the fact is that he did not even attempt to reform immigration in a lasting way, and that is on him and the Dems in Congress at the time. Trump is following through with his obligation to enforce existing immigration laws in a way that he, and his voting base, believe will work. You can disagree with his choice of methodology, but it is his mandate to uphold the law as the chief executive, which includes controlling our borders and immigration. There is already evidence that illegal migration has slowed and many are self deporting just at the idea of harsher treatments on the horizon, so in that regard it is starting to work, or at least appear so.
