@tommak65163 жыл бұрын
In my experience it does not work that way unless the check is seriously flawed in some way. The way it does work is the bank will take the check and deposit it, it then goes to a clearing house, the clearing house ultimately determines if the the check is good. This process could take 3 weeks. If the check is no good, the bank will take it back out of your account (3 weeks after you deposited it). If you do not have enough funds the bank will go after YOU to collect. That is precisely why the scam works, because of that long processing time.
@grn13 жыл бұрын
@@tommak6516 Chances are they were talking to the bank teller about it and the bank teller recognized it as a scam rather than recognizing the check itself as fake. It's also possible that the company name on the check had been flagged because they used the same bogus name on a previous scam.

I know a few that have legit, honest businesses. Yet, if I pick up the phone and hear a Hindi accent, I immediately think, "Scam",because of negative experiences, and disconnect the call. Too bad, because I am sure there are good, honest establishments that at least need an opportunity to be heard. Same with my friends in Nigeria and parts of Kenya. I did pay the fee they charged. After that, I realized I had probably been scammed. I blocked the number they had given. Reported them, after which they blocked my access to my own computer. I've got countless Scam Mails and even some calls, but I certainly never gave those scammer a single Cent. Tough those videos in general are fantastic for people, that may be new to internet or something. If even a single person doesn't get scammed because of that, he saved that person potentionally thousands of dollars, a lot of anger and frustration, maybe even their life (imagine you are pretty depressed and short of money, then loose anything you got left, many in this situation may kill themselves).

Nice. Good information. I can spread to my elderly friends and family. My ex's mother almost got sucked into the family in trouble scam. Somebody called and claimed they were my son (her grandson) and convinced her that he was in jail and needed bail money. Then convinced her that she needed to go to WalMart and get X.XX amount in gift cards. She called the ex for a ride, ex called me, son was sitting next to me with a very confused look on his face and we ended it right there. These guys need to be beaten.

Family Emergency Scams in my country (Romania) is calling Accident Scam. Someone call you with a lower voice, you don't recognize the voice but you are thinking it is a relative or your child and the lower voice tells you he/she had a car accident, hit a pedestrian and he/she needs money for an advocate. My mother received a call like this, she tought it was me, she said my name, the lower voice said yes, but in a second she realized it's a scam and she asked the lower voice:" Whose child you are?"

One thing I've noticed with auto-dial/robo calls, they're all about numbers. So they're on speed dial. So when they dial and there's no answer immediately, they hang up and dial the next number.

I wonder if someone ever got one of those "grandsons in jail" calls when their grandson was literally right in front of them! Just to be sure about the third one, YOU CAN LITERALLY JUST CHECK YOUR ORDERS ON AMAZON'S SITE!

My favourite way of dealing with spam phone calls is, if I don't recognise the number or it says "international" or just looks suspicious, I pick up the phone and say nothing, just listen. Usually after a few seconds the call will disconnect.

I love the robocalls. I play along and waste their time for 10 to 20 minutes. At least I know that I may well have saved someone for the time I've got them on the line. It also costs them as they use VOIP from third party companies.

Got several calls about social security benefits and twice she asked " can you hear me?". I never answer yes to any stranger and after listening to her for a few minutes, I interrupted to ask if she was interested in buying my old supply of Avon,,never been opened. She snorted in disgust before hanging up. P.S. called my local SS office to ask if they make these types of calls. Answer: NO! They notify by mail.

Well it depends, i mean probably those phone scammers are not going to be prosecuted in the US in any way, as they are commiting the crime from overseas(usually India). So no way to deal with this thing unless there is some action by the international community for India to step up their efforts regarding law enforcement(and the other countries that might host such "scam call centers"), because usually in such countries, law enforcement is virtually non existent, and that's why those scams keep being done.

I know of someone who just fell for a scam like that! With them it was a scammer getting their account information and “depositing” money in it, and before it cleared they asked her to send money. It’s both sad, and frustrating to see this happening to someone. Now he has access to all the money in her account.

That is so true about the work from home scam. This one in particular happened around this time in 2020 and didn't ask me for a amount to give them, No. She claimed to work for an Art Gallery and what she did is send me checks for $700 or sometimes way more to cash, I would take a percentage, but find somewhere to cash the check and wire the money to a location over in Europe somewhere. Then I would get paid $2000 a month on top of my percentage that I would take out from the checks. Plus, every 6 months that $2000 monthly would increase. Yeah, the checks were not good and till this day my bank goes through extra steps when I have to cash checks there and I have a credit union.
