Been looking forward to seeing this bike since the hype, and hasn't failed my expectations. Yes, the welds are a bit ugly, but then as long as they do what they are supposed to do, and I too wondered if the exhaust was stainless steel, hence the early 'discolouration'. A roll bag on the back, and some very pleasant weekends away around the lakes, or the borders area would be great.

Thanks for this review, the first ride on UK roads of this latest iteration of the Himalayan. Just a quick point about the exhaust system on the bike, which looks identical to the exhaust on the latest Himalayan to my eyes. You mention discolouration and rust. The system is stainless steel and as such can't rust in the sense that it'll corrode significantly, as is the case with mild steel. It will however discolour due to oxidisation. This effect is accelerated due to heat. It quickly reaches a point of stability beyond which it will discolour no further. I have a three year old Himalayan with this patina and I quite like the look. It's very common with stainless exhausts and whilst it's not to everyones liking the upside is you'll never need to replace it because it's rusted to hell.
@Zippytie10 ай бұрын
Just got three thousand miles on my Scram , and fitted a Tec camshaft , loved the Scram , but the cam replacement really does improve the bikes engine torque range , less bogging down on second gear and pulls far smoother in 4th at 30 mph , engine is quieter to , think its because it hasnt got all the decompression tranclament on the replacement cam to rattle about , yourwelcome to try it , thanks , great review

Interesting Video Andy. I've recently changed from a BMW k1200 to the Himalayan. I do think that as an owner of one of these kind of hikes that you have to accept that these bikes are built down to a price. My Himmy is 250 miles old and the exhaust can has done the same. It's nothing a bit of autosol won't sort though. The welds are indeed rubbish but I accept this. If this is a problem then buyers need to look else where. I would like a Triumph Tiger but at the best part of twice the price I dont believe I would have more fun on a tiger than I am on my new Himmy. I can throw this bike about. Probably drop it on a green lane and then repair it without the need to take out a loan. The engine ln these bikes whilst sounding very under powered is actually really good fun. It has enough power to get me across the country loaded up and scratch the local country lanes. One observation on the 411 is that the Speedo drive looks different on the front right fork. Not sure i saw the cable coming down the fork?
@PaulUpton12 жыл бұрын
Visited my local RE dealer today and they had a couple in stock. The speedo drive is different. its missing from the front wheel. I could not see the rear wheel in detail but I have to assume its fitted there somewhere... It does make the front look a bit tidier not having the speedo electronics floating around.

I’m so pleased you have reviewed the Scram, I have been waiting for this motorcycle to show itself in my local RE dealership, along with a price tag, I feel that what’s happening in the world with regards to energy costs etc may push the price a little a higher than originally planned. The tarnish on the exhaust is due to heat on the stainless steel. It goes an uneven bronze over time. Uneven perhaps because the heating wouldn't be consistent with all the cat and baffler gubbins in there. The later Ural sidecars had this kind of exhaust and they look the same. I must admit I'm not a fan of this either but a stainless zorst shouldn't rust out, so that's nice. I guess it counts as a quality touch. Love the channel keep up the great work. My latest ride is a vintage Dnepr sidecar which, given it's Ukrainian heritage, is nice given the state of things there right now. All the best from Brisbane Australia.

Great video thanks Andy, bike does look fantastic and as an ex Himalayan owner I'd be very interested to have a test ride on one. The saddle looks a lot more comfortable than the Himi, and seat height is lower which for me is better plus the bike is lighter in weight, always a bonus! Styling is spot on for the model and in my view the engine is a peach for a long stroke single thumper. The exhaust looks likes it's a carry over from the Himi in which case it won't rust as it's made from Stainless Steel (all be it not the best quality) but with a bit of work they do polish up nicely. For the projected cost it looks like another winner for RE. Very nice.👍😊
@sohanamin12282 жыл бұрын
Since the Scram shares, most of its components with the Himalayan which came out in 2016 the flaws too have been carried forward. Weld quality on the frame and headstock is crude and Quality levels have improved since the Himalayan first made its debut, but there’s still a lot to be desired. Also, a point to note is that RE Interceptor and GT 650, Classic and the Meteor 350 are all the bikes that came after 2018 by then RE have vastly improved their Build Quality this is the reason why the Interceptor and the latter released bikes have better build quality. According to me RE Scram 411 uses the same old Tooling as the Himalayan hence the poor weld quality. It's better to wait for the new Himalayan 450 which will be launched next year and will have a better build quality and more power & torque.

I think lots of reviewers are missing the point with the new single cylinder RE bikes. I have a 350 classic and bought it primarily for transport as I would the Scram or any of the other singles. So if you start from will it get you cheaply, safely and comfortably to work or out and about on your daily travels then anything it does over and above this is a bonus. I don’t have and don’t need a tripper or other electronics but heated grips fitted for £100 worth every penny. Until recently I had a 1098 Ducati and a 990 KTM, fantastic bikes, but hugely impractical as an everyday mode of transport. As far as fashion is concerned I’m guessing that your gear plus helmet, etc. adds up to at least a quarter of the price of the bike? Makes a bit of a nonsense if you are looking to buy a cost efficient and practical mode of transport. I can see it, and get it, in terms of hobby/Leisure vehicles but if we want more people riding bikes then it needs to be attainable for anyone looking to progress from pedal power.

I think a lot of reviewers forget how cheap the bikes are. The Interceptor always gets compared to the Bonneville which is 50% more expensive and has a bigger engine. I do have to say I prefer the look of the scram and may well consider a change. If your not going onto carriage way or motorways they just make sense. It is going back to the dealer soon for repeated stalling when “cold”. I have to feather the throttle to keep it from stalling and it will still stall during the first mile or two. The seat is hard. I’m also losing my ABS and Neutral indicator on my instrument cluster. They are slowly moving off center and slipping off at the 7 o’clock position. @@TheMissendenFlyer yes mate, in fact nearly all stainless steel will discolour as oxidisation on the surface will be effected by the heat. This is why I thought it was stainless. I quite like the tanning on stainless exhausts … keep up the good work mate!

So after 2 weeks on a new Classic 350 I must say was surprised at the finish on this new bike, the Classic is built to a much higher standard. Plus no vibration and a perfect gearbox.
@morri032 жыл бұрын
That’s because the classic is a dressed up meteor which is Enfield’s most modern and best built bike.
@Peter2341002 жыл бұрын
@@morri03 was offered a ride on the Meteor but declined as I just loved the Classic with out even riding it. It ticked all the boxes that I required, has even exceeded my expectations.

Yes the Meteor and Classic are well built in comparison and I way prefer the engine…

@@TheMissendenFlyer well have just been lent a Himalayan while my Classic has its first service and fitment of a top of the range DID chain. The only other extra was Daytona heated grips that look factory fitted, that the dealer sorted before I picked the bike up. A bit of a shock riding the Himalayan after the Classic.

Love the look of this bike but those welds are disappointing to say the least. IMO the frame is last place I want to see cost cutting. Awesome video btw
@MrSportster122 жыл бұрын
I don't know but would think the exhaust would be stainless steel so shouldn't rust. The discolouration could be just to heat.
@TheMissendenFlyer2 жыл бұрын
Definitely a rust spot on it!
@MrSportster122 жыл бұрын
Yes agree that it looked like rusty water had dripped on it from somewhere but I was referring to the general discoloration. Time will tell.
@ian-c.012 жыл бұрын
There are many different grades of Stainless Steel, the lower quality stuff does rust so technically shouldn't be called 'Stainless'. It's also possible that the finish is contaminated due to bad practice and using grinding belts that have been previously used for regular steel, this will transfer enough dust to the Stainless to create rust and it would look very similar to what you can see there. On the downpipe there is an enlarged section, possibly for a Cat Converter but on the welds above and below there is deep rust, that is not from contamination, that is low quality stainless and will develop holes over time !

Since most aspects of this machine share everything with the Himalayan , can the rear rack, tank racks, windscreen, center stand be retrofitted to the Scram? What does the side emblem cover on the tank? No release date announced yet for the US market but looking forward to seeing it. As a short rider, intrigued by the wheel size change lowering the seat height. The Himalayan is a tad tall for my 29” inseam. Thoughts?

I don’t know on the retrofits - I suspect they probably would fit….

@@TheMissendenFlyer - the base price is £4,599 on the road. I bought the £4,699 twin colour version simply because I loved the gloss black/grey coloured one with light blue highlights. Not bad value, eh?

Was not a big fan of the Himalayan but I like this. Ergos look good I’ll find out in a month. Wonder how it would fair with just street tires. Looks like a good all around town machine find myself attracted to the red and white one but they all look good to me

Definitely fills a welcome gap in the market. Love the style and looks, hp not an issue with speed limits for country lanes and town riding. Pity that the price has risen over the last 18months (based on Himalayan in Oz from $7k to almost $9k. Good review Andy, thanks 😎

Please forgive if I'm missing something but, I've taken the screen off my himalayan because the eddy it caused and the buffeting drove me nuts and its way better without it. Other than the slightly bigger front wheel my bike now looks practically the same as this Scram bike, is there any other difference? I do like the look of it though, I have one that looks just like it 😆
