I actually like how it was handled in the movie. It felt very real, and I personally think they did a brilliant job with the characters with the amount of time they had. I wouldn't mind having an extended cut around 2 and a half hours long when it comes to blu ray however.

I really loved this movie. The only negative thing I have to say is that I really dont think the scene with Forrest Whitakers tentancle monster went anywhere..... was there any point to have that scene in the movie? It just seems that scene let to something that was explained in a deleted scene. But anyway, I do feel that Rogue One was the movie I had been waiting for, for years.

Soren Sorensen in my head that scene was showing how deranged and paranoid the character has become over the years, by believing that the bur gullet (don't know if that is correct, hahaha) would work as a lie detector

Isn't it funny that one specific theory that was believed by 99% of the community was wrong? The theory is that Scariff is the world where the Death Star was being built but it just turned out to be a random imperial planet. The Death Star was actually just being built in space

Sean Daniels Sr Starkiller is stellarsphere. Stellar = star and sphere is just the planet, so a planet with the power of a Star-star killer base. And it is known the empire started work on starkiller base before their downfall, and the first order picked up after them. Warmantle could be the world devastators as they literally suck up the crust of a planet to produce war machines

Do we know what Draven's official position in the Rebellion is? I assumed he was the commander of Alliance Intelligence but can't find any confirmation on that. Either way it's cool that he's a new character who survived the film, could show up in some more Galactic Civil War stories.

@DrCornelius

I thought the same thing after watching the end of the film. It is clear in the begining of A New Hope that Vader does NOT believe the crew of Tantive IV when they claim to be in a diplomatic mission. Also, the ship was docked to the Rebel command ship during the battle of Scarif, and we know thanks to the novel that the Admiral made a sudden decision when moving the fleet to join the battle. These are the explanaitions I found the most reasonable but I may be very likely wrong.
@benjohnson5058
@benjohnson5058 7 жыл бұрын
Tom Goodwin I believe that Leia had originally gone back to Yavin IV, but all the rebel ships were needed on Scarif. She felt that going on that mission was her only chance to get to Obi Wan. As for why she tried to tell him it was a diplomatic mission, I believe that was because the Tantive IV was one of hundreds of models. For all we know, Vader had spent weeks searching every Tantive ship he could find before he finally found Leia in A New Hope.
@DrCornelius
@DrCornelius 7 жыл бұрын
Ben Johnson Could be right, but in that case wouldn't Leia have returned to rebel HQ and delivered the Death Star plans? She did know what they were, and she had them with her at the begining of A New Hope

if they gave us more time with the characters than people would be pissed & bitching that they all died at the end & would want more movies with them. the way they handled the characters was really good. kept it simple & no attachment. remember the whole point of the movie is the death star plans & how the rebels got them. yes characters matters but the plans are the whole point of the movie

"the way they handled the characters was really good. kept it simple & no attachment." exactly my thoughts but at the same time they put in more than enough to allow for further expansion of the characters and I don't know about you but for me some of the best moments for a lot of characters come for books/comics
@STAT3201
@STAT3201 7 жыл бұрын
Rat Man yes I definitely agree. It sucks for some people because I know alot of people aren't going to sit & read a couple of books that tell more of these characters or even the story but reading a book or comic is alot better because they put alot more into it because a movie is time based. I read a Vader book set after episode three & all the details it had in that book were amazing. It talked about the ball thing (I forgot what it was called) that we see him in in the empire strikes back & explains that he built it & why he built it. He even goes to Alderaan to go talk to Bail organa & alot of cool things happen there

STAT 01 yeah im gonna buy those vader comics, I keep hearing just the coolest stuff about it. another thing about star wars not a lot of people realize is that its so hard not to imagine your own stories and your own backstories for characters and even your own characters that is kinda hard to flesh out the world in a way that pleases everyone. tfa is a great example of that! as much as I enjoyed the film ive always had my own ideas about what happens after jedi and where these characters go that at first it was jarring and I feel like most people had there own interpretation of what they wanted to see happen and no one wants to straight up say "my star wars was better" because they deep down think that they're wrong. I cant wait to see what kind of stories will come out in the next 10 years!! its gonna be great!!!

my two little complaints are: 1. they didn't have the scene where Jyn and Cassian run on the Scarif beach with the Death Star plans that I've been waiting to see since the teaser trailer. 2. Darth Vader is so agile and fast killing the Rebels at the end, but in A New Hope, he's so weak and slow
@ParagonNoble
@ParagonNoble 7 жыл бұрын
Presley Kraus They changed the ending with the reshoots. I would love to know how it was originally going down. As far as Vader, that's just a thing that happens with it being filmed in 77. It was cool back then, but in story reason he had no need to move that way in A New Hope I guess. He only was moving fast when blocking the shots in the scene.

That's one of the big advantages that a book has that a movie will never be able to get to is being able to tell in more detail what is going on with everyone, their backstory, what they think, how they think and all of that.

The interesting thing for me is many people says "we don't get to know characters" i felt very attached to them from the beggining, and i knew books/comics/shows will expand on them, its not like we got everything from Maul/Bobba Fett/Biggs right away, little patience goes a long way, i get books are always "better" than movies, but to include all these details the movie would have been 3 hours or more ... or even worse made into 2 movies (wich is a thing i hate of the movies based on books nowdays) ... I can see you are excited with the movie, but i do also think people is asking way to much for a stand alone, i think its cool the way it was made and if you don't feel connected maybe its lack of empaty in your personallity (not saying this in offensive way, some people are easly more affected by this type of things, like me).
@spoke2639
@spoke2639 7 жыл бұрын
Jose Reyes I completely agree with everything you just said. It feels like everyone needs to have a character's entire backstory in order to care about them now a days. In old classics like Seven Samurai and the Magnificent Seven (the origional), which i think Rogue One has many similarities with, you did not need to know the backstory of all of the characters in order to care about them or feel bad for them when they died.

I read the book. It still didn't explore the characters enough for me. It would've been nice to get a better look inside their heads, thoughts and feelings. Maybe they wanted to keep the reader slightly detached and focus on the mission more. It's very much like the movie, but with a little extra for true fans. Great action. The movie made me feel more in general.
@Tracer_Krieg
@Tracer_Krieg 7 жыл бұрын
Really, only two things bug me in the movie. First, what you already said. And considering this is probably the shortest Star Wars movie to date (the longest still being AotC at 2.24), you can see why. Had they given it an extra twenty or even thirty minutes, the beginning part probably wouldn't have been so choppy and rushed. Second, and this is a spoiler. The ending. It probably took at least 5 minutes or more for that elevator to get down to the surface and for them to walk to the beach. Them staring longingly into each others eyes in elevator made me realize I wanted more of them, that I wanted to see that relationship carried on. So them getting vaporized really set a nerve for me. Again, they had a few minutes to get a ship and try to outrun and escape the blast.

Gerben I would agree, except they've already proven they can. Ie, TV Rebels cameos in the same movie. And also, they're no name spies. Why would our main heroes even think to ask where they are?
@val7885
@val7885 7 жыл бұрын
Gerben, them not appearing in OT isn't a problem at all, they could be presumed dead and becoming Fulcrum agents (rebel informants) or they could simply be elsewhere, universe of Star Wars is a big one and OT followed pretty much 3 characters. Really, bigger obstacle to us seeing more of them is their death >_>

I actually loved that they died, they were very aware that is was a suicide mission, and also it shows the true nature of how horrible the war is, and how the ones that are down below on the chain, or the ones that are in the front lines, the pawns, are the ones that pull the cranks and make revolutions happen, even if they all die and are forgotten at the end. the heroes of the story only get to accomplish their goals and feats because all those other people lost their lives for the cause.

PemaMendez ペマ While I can understand that, Jyn and Cass's death was just... stupid. It had to have taken ten for them to get down the tower and then walk over to the beach. Krennic's ship is still parked on the tower's landing pad. Why not just go steal that?

Amazing movie, I loved it. One of the things nobody noticed is the music when the Death Star appears toward the end, is sad, like "everybody you care about are going to die". The scoring has so much heart. And the photography! The lighting when the rebel ships are arriving to the last battle. I mean... this movie was awesome. The only problem with continuity I saw were all the Tie fighters when they were being deployed, like 300 but you never see so many in the actual battle after the deployment.

I really enjoyed the book, but then I really enjoyed the movie, so that wasn't a huge surprise. Enjoyed your recap of the book, although I do have one thing. The soldier who was killed away from Jedda City experienced pain because her armor kept her alive long enough to burn instead of being vaporized. So I don't think Jyn and Cassian necessarily experienced the same level of pain. Unrelated, I really liked how Jyn's internal conflicts were described in the book used the metaphor of the hatch.

1:45 I'm sorry, but I have got to disagree on this one- for me, at the very least, Baze Malbus was portrayed as more of an old warrior, tired of fighting and with a very poetic mind, not full of rage, but rather agony on NiJedha and love for Chirrut. As the last line before his death was- "Baze Malbus was in pain, but it didn't last long."

In episode 5, the pilots of the snowspeeders on Hoth were Rogue Squadron, led by Luke Skywalker at the time. In episode 6, they were at the Battle of Endor, led by Wedge Antilles (although they used the callsign Red instead of Rogue). Rogue Squadron is canon.

Spoilers: I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the book. I read the novel before going to see the movie. Although the movie was great, the book was even better! For me, one of the most moving scenes in the book detailed K-2's last 12 seconds before total deactivation where he went through countless microsecond scenarios in order to choose the best outcome for Cassian & Jyn before his final 12 seconds expired:-) Having read the prequel novel (Catalyst: A Rogue One Story) before reading this book, I truly appreciated the groundwork that had been developed regarding Galen Erso's relationship with Director Orson Krennic. Because of this, I did have sympathy for both Galen & Orson--not just Galen. I could go on & on, but that's enough for now:-)

Sounds like this improved on the movie A LOT, not that I didn't love the movie. It gets me thinking, would Rogue One had worked better as a live-action mini series? Like with maybe 5 to 10 one-hour long episodes? I actually started thinking about this right after I saw the movie since I felt the "beats" of the story portrayed in the movie made it feel like a season-long story arc compressed into one feature-length film.

the exhaust port design flaw wouldn't work, due to the pressure of the exhaust, the heat and distance to the center of the death star. There is many other reasons which dorkly covered, even though that was made as satire the argument makes sense.

Does the novelization expand on what we saw with the ending specifically on the Tantive IV because it bothered me that R2 / 3PO's cameo was on Yavin instead of the Tantive IV and now i'm left wondering about the timing on when did they board the Tantive When Bail already left earlier .
@mr.e8226
@mr.e8226 7 жыл бұрын
did the novel explain why Tarkin thought it was a good idea to use the death star on the miltary base on Scarif. I'd think Darth Vader and the Emperor would be mad at him for that decision since they were already trying to cover up the destruction of Jeddah City. You'd think it would be easier just to knock out the tower with a few star ships or AT-ATs or tell the Storm Troopers on the ground to bomb the data vault. Not to mention all the Imperial men and women that died along with all the equipment lost. One would think the Emperor would have a harder time explaining to other systems of the Senate why that an entire base had to be killed off. My first thoughts were that maybe Tarkin wanted to force the Emperor's hand into entirely writing off the Senate all together instead of having to explain away 2 Death Star uses.
@JS-jg7iv
@JS-jg7iv 7 жыл бұрын
Mr. E they wanted to stop the rebels before they transmitted the data, but of course they failed. It is also explained in Catalyst that Krennic and Tarkin are rivals, and when tarkin ordered the fire, he ensured that he would take control of the battle station
@mr.e8226
@mr.e8226 7 жыл бұрын
got ya. thanks. but it still seemed like overkill since any of the star destroyers or even an AT-AT on the ground or a few stormies in the building could have taken out the transmission antenna. I just thought it played against the strategic mind that I thought Tarkin would have. Like after we used the H Bomb on a city, would we use another one on one of our military bases that was being hacked into... It just really bothered me, I guess. A few scenes ago Vader was telling Krenic that they had to cover up the destruction of Jedah city for the Senate and then they destroy a whole base just to take out a part of one building. All the poor storm troopers that got wiped out... One point that I liked about the "Lost Stars" novel is that a reason that a bunch of Imperials started to defect was because they started to notice how Vader, Tarkin and the Emperor didn't seem to care about their lives. So maybe that was a display of that.
@JS-jg7iv
@JS-jg7iv 7 жыл бұрын
Mr. E I see what you mean, but for starters i doubt the senate even knows about the base. The empire was always secretly hiding bases and events from the senate and public all the time, so i doubt they knew about scariff. The only reason the senate complained about jedah was that a large civilian casualty occured. And plus The Imperial philosophy doesn't value the lives of their soilders as much as the republic did. The empire would easily allow hundreds of their soilders to die because they had an infinite supply of man power from the galaxy

Is there any explanation as to why Tarkin just flat out chose to destroy the citadel without even attempting to evacuate the command staff,garrison and even the rest of the data vault? I understand that destroying it was advantages given that its location was compromised but to waste years of work and some valuable imperial officers and staff just for a bit of political power play seems a bit much out of character for Tarkin....imo
