Would just like to mention, for complete beginners to abstract art, the use of blank canvas vs already worked & painted canvas will create a drastic change in the depth of your abstracts so don't be discouraged if you're starting from blank canvas and not achieving the depth you're working for. Abstract paintings take soooooooooooo many layers of building, and starting on a canvas that has already been worked and painted with multiple layers beforehand, puts the new painting at an advantage, that a blank canvas will not.🧡🧡🧡

I love that you start with the opposite of what you’re envisioning for the finished pieces. So often I have an idea of what I want and I end up with something completely different! I must try this tip. Thank you for sharing your process. Beautiful, beautiful work!

Thanks so much! I don’t think any of my paintings have turned out how I thought at the beginning though. I think that’s the beauty of the process.

Love this. i just found your videos and love them. Im learning so much. Question .. Do you gesso your wooden panels before you start a painting or just work directly on it?
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I seal the panels first with gloss medium (all sides) and then gesso them.

Thanks so much! I also have a playlist with all videos of this series so far: kzbin.info/aero/PLhbnjNnHj6bqDL82akSZKCXm2NxhSoq1I I prep my panels by painting both sides with gloss medium to seal them. Then I add two coats of gesso (front only) before I start.

How do we get Caran d’Ache to understand that there is a much wider range of “flesh” tones in this world?

Love your work and processes and techniques! How long does your paint stay fresh in the tubs? looks like a great system. Thanks!
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy. Thank you! I opened some containers I used about six months ago and they started drying up. But if you spray them with a little water every couple of months they should last pretty much indefinitely.

Thanks so much Alessia! I use Spectrafix www.jacksonsart.com/spectrafix-continuous-fine-mist-sprayer-set?___store=jacksonsart_en&acc=2d00f43f07911355d4151f13925ff292 I love oil pastels too, but try to only use them in my last layers

Very cool...do you add anything to your paint to thicken it?
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Not to thicken it, but I sometimes use fluid medium or water to thin it. Different brands also have different consistencies. The Golden heavy body for example is much thicker than the Daler Rowney System 3

Curious. do you mix a medium with your acrylics in the little tubs? If so what do you use?
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio 11 ай бұрын
Yes, I usually mix flow medium and a bit of water with the paint, to make the consistency a touch more fluid. The medium I use is the Jackson's own brand acrylic flow medium: www.jacksonsart.com/jacksons-acrylic-flow-medium-500ml?___store=jacksonsart_en&acc=2d00f43f07911355d4151f13925ff292 You could also use any airbrush medium instead.

Thanks thanks thanks,,..,great work ! .. meravigliosi!!! What did you add to the beige colour ?...it seems cream..... What media did you use ? I'll follow you !!!!!
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for following! For the beige I mixed yellow oxide, raw umber and white. They are acrylics. I use the Daler Rowney System 3 paint www.jacksonsart.com/daler-rowney-system-3-acrylic?___store=jacksonsart_en&acc=2d00f43f07911355d4151f13925ff292 I have made a video where I mix those colours, if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYPMdJehmLqUo6c

Hi Jeanine. What is the texture beneath those colours please? Love abstract art.
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio Жыл бұрын
Hi Ali. That was a gel medium with objects pressed into it. You apply the medium (the heavier consistency the better) and let it dry a little. Then you press objects into the gel to create a texture. Hope that helps!
