Love your colors. Gel prints are so addictive. Thanks for the reminder to use simple tools. I seem to have gotten into a habit of using brayers and stencils, and your loose organic texture is far more interesting.

For about 3 years I have been using gel prints to create greeting cards and collage paper. Loved watching your experiment with the journal book pages!💙 You can also use stencils, masks, rubber stamps etc for mark making on the plate. Then let layers dry and add more layers and pull the whole print at once with a single thin layer of white, titan buff, or even gray or black! 😃

Always have a scrap piece of paper nearby and work all the excess off after each use (these can become collage papers!). At the end of your session, wash well in warm water with a little hand soap. Since hand soap moisturizes, it will help condition your brayer. Can also keep moist paper towel beside your work to rub excess paint onto.

Great tips, thank you so much! I do something similar with my brushes actually. I have a small board that I wipe them on to get rid of excess paint. Will definitely try the papers.

Love this. Haven’t tries direct int sketch book but will definitely have a go. For cleaning brayer I have a small tray of water with a sponge in the bottom and roll the paint off the brayer and then roll on a dry towel each time I roll paint on your plate. It’s a bit tedious but I dont get paint drying on the roller. I use isocol, rubbing alcohol, to clean the brayer at the end of a session. Your videos are wonderful. What beautiful prints you made! So inspiring that I'm heading to the studio! But, before I go - to clean your brayer, just leave it to soak in some warm water with a little liquid dish soap. Whenever you get back to it, even if it's a couple of days later, the paint will wipe right off with a paint rag! I do try to not wash much paint down the drain as it can really muck up your plumbing! Thanks again for sharing your beautiful work!

Thanks so much! I don't use them as a basis for large works consciously, but I think all the marks and colours all influence my larger work subconsciously. To try printing fill sealable bag with edible jelly, can thicken with gelatine. Using food can be culturally sensitive. Could try first aid pads ,the type you cool and wrap round sprains. Hot water bottle makes great ribbing marks or put a silicone baking sheet as top layer for smooth surface.

@@francavan1295 Oh wow - I didn’t realize the whole skin could spontaneously come off. I watch a lot of Robyn McClendon’s gelli printing videos and I have never seen that happen. Her videos don’t seem edited either. I have seen another artist have to use a craft knife to cut the skins off of her brayer - so that gave me the impression that the skins don’t just “come off” onto prints. I appreciate learning. Thank you.

Hello, thank you for your video. You have inspired me to get back into the studio and create again! I have a question and a tip. Are the paints in the jars colors that you mixed up yourself? If so what colors did you use to get the colors you used to print? To clean your brayer always have a sheet of paper to roll off excess paint every time you use it. You can also use baby wipes (pretty sure you have those laying around!). If your brayer gets really layered up you can soak it in water and the actually peel the old paint off (very satisfying!)

How wonderful to hear that I have inspired you! The raw sienna is from the Sennelier Abstract range, the white is Daler Rowney System 3. The other ones are mixes. The beige is quite similar to a buff titanium. The reddish brown I think is cadmium red with hooker's green. It's quite similar to a burnt sienna. Unfortunately I don't remember what's in the other two. Thanks for the brayer tips! Will try them.

Yes! Not environmentally friendly, but we get large wipes for cleaning the floor. I roll my brayer on it, then rub into the sides of the roller for the harder to get bits. I soak my brayers in water and murphy's oil soap for a wee bit and the paint just comes off with a wipe.

I have heard Murphy's oil soap is a bit of a miracle cleaner when it comes to cleaning up paint. I don't think I can get it here in the UK, but will look for something similar. Thank you!

@@jclosestudio that is unfortunate, but if you are an amazon shopper and its available to you, they do have it there for a reasonable cost. I wish you luck and I just want to say thank you, for sharing your talent, ideas and wonderful art. I love it all!

You are right, I just had a look and it's not too bad. I looked a while ago and remembered it being much more expensive. Thank you so much, that's such a wonderful comment!@@kerryfauchon8564

When I work with additional layers, I let the plate sit on the paper for 5 to 15 minutes to let the paint dry, so that more comes off the plate.

True, that does help take more of the paint off. Most of the time I don't have the patience 😄. But it's worth it if you do!

Thank you so much! The raw siena is from the Sennelier Abstract range, the white is Daler Rowney System 3. The other ones are mixes. Unfortunately I don't remember what's in them!

@moumoun7 Dollar Stores are a great source for things like that. And I also love keeping sauce containers, especially cause they come free and we give them a second life

use a little less water and the crackling texture will stay. live the video i sometimes forget to use other tools like brush or squeegee to apply paint o gel plate ❤

I do have to remind myself to use different tools. Otherwise I also keep on using the same kind of tools. And using different tools makes the result so much more interesting.

Just a small hint: copy paper is coated with a thin layer of plastic. My experience with it has been that acrylic paints crack and peel off of the surface in about a years time. This paper is fun for practice, but uncoated paper is best.
