You made out VERY well. Just with the welder you got your money's worth. All the rest is cream on top. The mirror is there so you can look for crap that gets in your eyes on the job site. They are in the lid of old machinist's tool boxes for the same reason: way back when, they didn't wear shop glasses fro protection, and even with goggles etc. nowadays it still happens. WELL DONE.

Hi Warren! Nice pick. I was field service for 35 years all heavy equipment. I'm in the shop now. I sure miss the field. I just bought that same welder, your right on the price. 5500.00. I sure like watching you! I work a lot like you. Keep up the great work! The years in the field have finally won! Watching you keeps all the great years I spent in the field alive. Thank Warren! Maybe some day we could meet and share some stories.

Congrats on the sweet truck. I kept thinking about you and hoping everything was working out for you. I’m glad it did! I had a local canvas place make a nice cover for my trailblazer on my service truck and it has already lasted 3 times longer than the miller cover I had at first, and it looks like it has many years to go.

Ok Warren... I'm just a little slow at seeing everything.. LOL. Assuming the whole works is IMT, they make some nice stuff!!!! I didn't hear what you actually paid, but being an inexpensive bastard, like us farmers.. it looks like all you paid for was the welder and what they left in the compartments. Used, ya.. so what!!! It's a nice truck and it's set up nice!! I built mine, '84 IH, rust bucket.. picked up a used box, stumbled across a PTO compressor, it's going to be hydraulic.. picked up a Lincoln Ranger 8 and an old 4,200# cable crane.... Nothing is new, I've done some work on everything, but it all works!!! Compressor isn't done yet, crane needs some parts, but is useable. Not counting time, I've got about $4k into it. Still a work in progress but we've been using it for almost two years!! My work in progress... LOL 😎 😂 Actually reworking a box off one of my old service trucks to go up top.. swapping the doors to hinge at the top... I'm only 5'10", not 10'5".... BTW, the IH isn't nearly as good a ride as the little Freightliner... We've got an FL70 with a flatbed.. Everything we have is on Freightliner Air ride, including the IH!!!😎 I was wondering how it would be with the crane, but it sets level!!! Bad thing is, the welder is on the right side too... She doesn't like left turns🤣😂 but right turns are great!!!

Nice service truck Warren ! only those of us who work outside at multiple job sites can really appreciate a vehicle like this. You’ll make great use of all the options this baby has. My truck is falling apart at the seams, held together with straps just keeping doors closed so my tools don’t end up on the pavement as I drive. Enjoyed this video.

A long lasting bit of advice I was given many years ago... there is a huge difference between too much work for one man and enough work for two men. The employee has to be payed every week whether you are or not. It will be great to see you expand when the time is right but don't do it just because everyone else says you should.

As a small business owner who has had employees for 25 years, I have to say that, while I agree with you that it is best to think about it, sometimes you do not see the benefits of a good employee until you have one: when you find a good person who is eager to work and has a pride in working hard, and you can enjoy the occasional walk with your wife or kids or simply take a weekend off because someone is taking care of things, it is a great feeling too. It also feels great to see that you are helping a person grow to become a trustworthy professional and that your business moves move work. Having an employee is not really about making money (you hardly make any), but having a bit more of a life as you get older and serving more customers.

I have a 18 horse Miller legend with high frequency unit and all that was my dad's and it's not going anywhere either. That thing has saved me in power outages and I use it all the time on service calls. I sure love that thing especially since it will put out full power at idle and run the whole house. 👍

That's a great service truck! I have always been a fan of the FL70. If the noise becomes too bothersome you can always add some underlayment sound insulation under the floor or in the door panels!

I too own a FL70 service truck. I independently do service work on heavy equipment. Your biggest problem is switching between trucks and organization on your new truck. Side note is two dogs won't fit on the right seat, my German Shepherd just fits. Just one small problem of many. You are exactly right, a field mechanic must be able to improvise.

You have memories that will never leave you and I'm sure you'll be reunited when you pass through the door from this world to the next. Driving in a City compared to the Country. My children in Australia finally made me aware what I was doing wrong about 10 years ago. Always put your indicator on well ahead of time. Expected in a City. If the first guy won't let you in the next one will. I found after I did that most City drivers are very polite. Thats in Australia anyway. They all understand it could be them one day needing to cross three lanes. One thing I never understood until I was 50.

On my old service truck equipped like yours the option switch allow you to run crane and compressor at the same time. Possibly yours is setup the same. The Trailblazer welds great compared to a bobcat or Lincoln Ranger. Nice smooth arc. Hard to say how many cans of hard rod and 7018 I’ve burnt with one! It should make a great truck. Simple to work on and not too pretty to work out of.

Congrats on the great purchase. When I bought my boom truck I drove it from San Diego to SF, and there was only one weigh station and they just waved me on. Good thing because I didn't have insurance, or a license, or a moving permit. I just didn't know much back then.

Congratulations on new truck. Looks good. A lot of service trucks come from big company's. I work for an electric utility and many years as road mechanic. We never send our road service trucks to auction with all that stuff you have. We save the welders as spares. So you got lucky getting those added pieces. Klein trays look like they will fit those slides. We use them for hydraulic fittings, and all other hard ware. Bins are labeled often , in our main shop, there is 3 service trucks shared by 10 mechanics. Usually mechanics who have assigned or take home units dont label bins. Common with big fleets. The IMT cranes seem to do real well to. Hope you get many years of use out of it and thanks for your vidoes.

Hi Warren, looks like a good buy. I bought a similarly equipped truck 3 years ago (International with DT466e 230 hp, Spicer 7 spd, air brakes 25,999 gvw, autocrane body with 8,000 lb crane, hydraulic air compressor. Paid 23k for it, still had to do some work on it. Just the right size truck in my opinion though. I wont ever use a gas compressor on a service truck again, it's nice to flick a switch and have air.

WOW! very good rig, and a couple of grand in free stuff! Cant wait to see it once you get it fitted out the way you want it. You might want to think about having your friend sandblast, then prim and paint. If possible get a good power wash of the undercarriage, just noise off the top of my head. Isn't it amazing about all the good advice you can get from people when they don't have to do the work. Can not wait to see the jobs you work on once you get the beast fitted out. The dogs are going to be a little disappointed with the front seat. Gonna hear them calling shotgun a lot!

I'm going to guess that this truck was on a military or government contract. Great video. Great Channel too. I have driven bus and truck most of my life, sure enjoy the open road. Speed traps make me crazy too until we remember the single most frequent controllable in an accident is......Speed. Never forget this. I know about all the debates with this issue and enforcement knows all that professional drivers want to do is make a living safely. Remember those on the "enforcement" side of the formula are at the accidents, clean up the aftermath, and inform loved ones of their new loss. Oh well that is my observations for the day.

At my day job we have a few locations with equipment concentrations and we employ / vendor relationship with mobile mechanics basically on a full time basis. You are correct in saying a mobile mechanic is his own breed of animal. He'll work out of his truck day after day, in cold, rain, snow everything. If you transferred him to work an inside mechanic job, they would quit in a heart-beat to get back onto a truck. They are their own type.
