Great review! I just upgraded from an Apple TV version 2. . I set up the new one this morning and had the same problem with scrolling that you did. Thanks for finding the solution. For me, this is a really great upgrade plus I love the remote more, the more I use it.

Can you just hold down the d pad directional buttons to scroll? The biggest annoyance in the old siri remote is that to scroll long lists you have to do several swipes.
@JerrySchulze3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can.

For Siri button, to overcome arthritis issue I just turn the remote sideways, pressing left side to keep it stable while pressing the Siri button.

Coming from a 10-year-old Apple TV I needed a new one - obviously... If I were to only need a new remote I figure the $60 price tag would be well worth it. How can a remote control be so great... 1- quickly open a new app with Siri 2 - new trackpad becomes intuitive very fast 3- having a mute button on it is well worth it - not having to dig up the television remote - Same applies for the volume and ability to start and shut down both with one power button. 4- the size is just right in the hand - the flat sides (ala iPhone 12) is gold 5- Rechargeable battery

@@JerrySchulze #6- Being able to easily use the controls (specifically the mute, volume & pause buttons) without requiring to pick it up is also nice - lots of smaller remotes are not so well designed in that way!

Hi Jerry. Thanks for your video. Ironically nearly all of the things you mentioned that you like about the new Apple TV remote, for me, are some of the things I actually dislike. The noticeably louder button click noises makes the remote feel and sound kind of cheap to me. I’ve always found that the cheapest TV remotes on the market typically have loud click noises when pressing the buttons, so that immediately felt unnerving to me. The repositioned Siri button on the side makes it more difficult for me to press with my thumb. I almost strain my hand trying to get my thumb into position, and as I often use voice control to search for videos - this is somewhat annoying. I actually find it far easier to press the Siri button on the front panel on the older remote as my thumb easily comes straight down accordingly. But what I do like about the new remote is the jog wheel feature, although it’s not currently available in the KZbin app (as you mentioned) which is the most often used app on Apple TV for me. And something I found which you might have also discovered, is that you can instantly skip 10 seconds backward or forward through the video using the left/right buttons. This can’t easily be done using the trackpad on the older remote.

I appreciate the comment and to each their own. I have found that I do hit the Siri button accidentally since then.
@goodnightkiwi3 жыл бұрын
@@JerrySchulze That’s true. I think I will keep the new remote as I know I will miss the new jog wheel and playback skip options if I return it. Those two features alone is worth it for me! Not only that but having the new remote will hold the value of my existing Apple TV 4K if I sell it in the future. Such a shame Apple didn’t include a built-in airtag in the new remote to find it if I goes missing. Perhaps they thought it didn’t need one with the new remote’s bigger and thicker form factor lol!?
@JerrySchulze3 жыл бұрын
@@goodnightkiwi Ya, lol, I think that's a BS reason and they honestly didn't think about it or forgot.

I’m left handed so weirdly I find the Siri button easier on the right side as I’m using my index finger to press it as it’s in my left hand, I imagine holding the remote in your right hand with your thumb always near the Siri button would lead to a lot of accidental presses
@goodnightkiwi3 жыл бұрын
@@nathanthomas5133 I’ve actually got used to it now, but it was so odd to shift the thumb over at the start.

You say it doesn’t have an accelerometer or gyroscope but when my Apple TV home screen dims after a couple of minutes and I pick my remote up, the screen lights back up to normal brightness 🤔

It’s not listed on tech specs and Apple stated that to media somewhere but interesting.
