Hi Dr. Norton, really well explained and also the biochemical/ molecular biology aspect. Could not do it better! I wanted to read the study for myself, unfortunately I do not have access through my institutitons. I would have loved to see some proteomics data on this as well. Since the mTOR pathway seems to upregulated, it would have been amazing to see the transcriptomic and proteomic response to it. Maybe the pathways involved would not have lead to the notion, that high protein diet leads to heart disease. Thanks again for your effort on debunking the current news articles so we all can have an extra protein shake now for our muscle gain 🙂

Layne, this video was very very difficult to keep up with. I can usually keep up with your educational videos, but this one was tough. Can you please try in the future to simplify them as much as possible as if you were talking to elementary students in science. I know you have to be very thorough with your explanation, but not all of us are experts in your field. Not trying to be rude, just trying to understand the logic and explanation in someway behind the topic. Thanks Layne, love The Coach, it has made me learn more about my body and metabolism than I could have ever imagine. The FDA thing was a bit of a reach but glyphosate is actually in our foods that isn't a lie. The FDA, USDA, DOH.. one of those expensive, tax funded governing bodies have to know because I and other people know. They just let it slide on though to the supermarket shelves. The WEF is pushing _"bug based food"_ that isn't a lie either. Their thought process is it would be a solution to starvation. They are worried of potential livestock shortages in the future due to human overpopulation. I'm not sure how KZbin handles external hyperlinks but a quick google search "WEF insects" and "Glyphosate quaker" you can see for yourself.

The FDA, DOH, USDA.. one of our many expensive, highly staffed, tax payer funded, governing bodies has to be aware of this long before I was. Still these products still end up on our supermarket shelves 🤷‍♂️. The WEF is pushing for insects as food. This is very true. They believe the human population is too high and we can't supply enough meat for the entire population. This is their solution. Bug based food. I'm not sure how KZbin handles external hyperlinks. Taking into account the study and your comment that a high-protein diet could potentially decrease body weight, perhaps an approach focusing on sources low in the amino acid Leucine could be a correct approach to decreasing cardiovascular risk, low in saturated fats, and low in sugar.
@RandomHuTaoSimp
@RandomHuTaoSimp 3 ай бұрын
You don't need to lower saturated fats. A meta analysis of all the data on the highest level of data on this compound was conducted and they wrote a paper that their was NO correlation between saturated fat and negative health effects. Literally no data in the literature proves saturated as being harmful as a standalone compound, and NO it does not cause diabetes. All it does is make you sugar intolerant which is a protective mechanism in adaption to low carb diet. So don't fear saturated fats in any amount, mainly if you're low carb.

The researchers said their studies demonstrates a mechanistic basis. They made no claims about actual health outcomes in humans. Plus, they said risk might begin at protein levels over 22% of calories or 1.55 g/kg. There are not too many people eating this high of protein, especially in the elderly. The 95th percentile of men over 50 is about 21% of calories.

Any evidence-based fitness enthusiast is probably eating over 1.6g/kg of protein due to the most current evidence on muscle hypertrophy. So that’s why people in these comments care a lot.
@jakubchrobry3701
@jakubchrobry3701 3 ай бұрын
@@danielbrown001 If you're in your 20s or 30s and a lean healthy bodybuilder, go for it. 2.2 g/kg is likely fine, but you're not likely going to see any significant (noticeable) gains from eating more than 1.6 g/kg due to the diminishing returns of the concave-down curve of muscle gains vs protein. It's best to put your efforts into an optimal training program and recovery (yeah, the hard stuff) rather than focusing on the easy stuff of eating more than 1.6 g/kg of protein. Yes, people should care. Once you get in your 50s, fitness enthusiasts begin to think more about longevity and disease. Then it comes down to: why take the risks when you're not going to get benefit from eating over 1.6 g/kg. It's no longer about ekeing out every additional nanogram of muscle mass. There's plenty of research showing protein has a negative impact on all nine aging pathways, plus negatively influencing disease. You can gamble by believing this is all bunk, but to what end? Concerns about sarcopenia in the elderly? Research shows that the additional protein does not help in the elderly. They need to lift weights. Period. 1.2 g/kg is enough, when half are not even getting 0.8 g/kg.

If leucine is what truely drives MPS then would't ir make sense just to eat a moderate protein diet and simply take something like 3g of leucine per meal? It's super cheap, so at 3g per meal or 9g per day a one month supply would be about 30 bucks. You would likely lower your overall protein needs for similar growth and save a ton of cash on protein bars and powders (and meals too).

Hi, they used this type of mice since it has been shown that these mice can form plaques similar seen in human. Therefore this would help to study the outcomes in the disease context, here cardiovascular diseases. Of course even having such a mice model, it is hard to translate every finding into human trials. Hope that helped. (References: Pendse AA, Arbones-Mainar JM, Johnson LA, Altenburg MK, Maeda N. Apolipoprotein E knock-out and knock-in mice: atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, and beyond. I am sorry, but the caveat regarding the mice strain being ApoE knockout is wrong. They compared the plaque levels between different diets in the same strain, so the results are very much valid. Also, the following point you raise also makes no sense, given that at the diets they provided with lower ratio of protein, the rest of the calories came from either carbs or fats, but they didn't measure an increase in plaque formation (it was over the course of 8 weeks, so not immediate response only in mice). In Fig. 8b,c you can clearly see correlation between increased leu intake and higher plaque build-up and lesions. It is important though that indeed given the knockout, it is very much possible that in the WT the ApoE mechanism can get over also the higher amounts of protein, meaning you won't see the deleterious effects.

eat meat and saturated fat and natural stuff your anchestors ate.. do not count calories, do not care about cholesetrol, use your own body and cravings as a compass. if you eliminate all processed foodstuffs, you will start to get much clearer cravings, like waking up in the morning craving whipped cream or fatty beef. and that is great. listen to that and you will be much healthier.

How did we go from the argument of high protein potentially dysregulating mTOR expression to saying this paper assumes we shouldn't eat any protein at all and practice fasting. That is a red herring and not really the point of this paper.
