Bit skimpy on the spring roll filling, from what I can see, and no dip packets. Both are crying out for some sriracha sauce, or melted butter, but the prawn toasts really suggest a better alternative -- breaded popcorn shrimp. Which reminds me, there's a box of calamari rings in my freezer, and some pesto to dip them in. 😋

How they make these structural marvels is amazing, There's hardly any filling in them, maintain their shape, although there's nowt but air inside.
Love spring rolls but love chop suey ones even more. Keep up the good reviews.

I've never tried prawn toasts, as they seem expensive in my Chinese takeaway for what you get. I buy four vegetable spring rolls (not frozen) from Lidl. I usually have a small bowl of dark soy sauce to dunk the spring rolls in on each bite.
I don’t watch every video you do but will leave a like, trying to push you to a deserved 100k

The same company Diggers who make the nearest thing to Chinese chicken balls also make spring rolls, and they've nailed both on Chinese take away flavour. Not cheap but so worth it. What you have there is crying out for a pool of Mayflower extra hot curry sauce. Great review Gareth. 👍👍

Odd the spring rolls are made in Vietnam but they use filo pastry. Chinese takeaways use Spring Home Tyj brand "wrappers" which are ultra thin and crisp up and go flaky when deep fried. I worked for two years as a driver for a chinese takeaway and they used to get dozens and dozens of the Spring Home wrappers in their deliveries. You can get them in Tesco but there's an art to making your own - I don't think they'd work in an oven or air fryer. They have to be deep fried

Those prawn toasts actually looked good!! I think fried would give more colour, spring rolls 5 and 7 for the toasts

Hey I was wait to hear what you order as you have prawn toast as side dish. How did you know we were waiting to hear you say. By the way aldi does large spring rolls chicken and vegetable and just vegtable very good to but with all thing it depends on how you cook them.
@davidsworld58373 ай бұрын
I do need some help with this. At £1.75 for 240g and 140g just does seems to be too much to me. there is other freezers that do 8 spring rolls for around a £1. but the prawn toast does seem a lot for just some bread with a tiny bit of topping. you are only looking at 1 slice of bread. the ingredients say there is 26% prawn which is 36g, which is 9g per a fourth. but i would think the bread slice should really weigh more than 36g. each spring is only 30g. and if you look most of the weight will be the wrap, not the content. so when you get bigger size you get more contents inside.

I'm not usually enamored by prawn toast especially the deep fried stuff as they pick up all the flavours of everything else that's been cooked in the oil. Those dinky spring rolls look like the Xmas snack type that you used to be able to get at Asda etc along with all the other little bits of finger food. Nothing wrong with them I reckon except a nice sweet chilli dipping sauce.

Ah so Gareth fine food from the mysterious East ❤ we all love a Chinese takeaway, but they, like fish&chips, burgers are now a high cost treat 😢 The new wave of " Fake aways " can do the job😊 never quite the same as the real deal. But for a Saturday night in front of the telly, a few cans to sup,it's fine for the families. Cheers mate until the next video Allan&Family

Was up at the hospital all day so missed the post. Looks like the chicken is from China on the packet. But seemingly a tasty and not too expensive snack and read reasonably healthy. Its like fish and chips, its got to be the chippy to get the real thing but there is no harm in a bit of a copy from the freezer occasionally.

Whatever you do.....don't come to London if you think that's expensive!! Here prawn toast is 8 small pieces £7.50. Two spring rolls that size are a Fiver. Eight mini ones (about the size of an adult's finger) is £7.50. Those are a waste of money because they are too small to have any filling. A Chinese takeaway here costs around twenty pounds per person, minimum.

Back to the review. I do love spring rolls. I really love the duck spring roll packs that you make yourself, coming with a roasted duck leg, spring roll wrappers and a sachet of Hoisin sauce just add some spring onion and your good to go. I will make do with ready made veggie rolls and sweet chilli dip as well. Well done Gareth for reviewing these items. I love all things sea food, especially shell fish 🫶🦐🦀🦞🍤🍚🍜🥢🫶 and I don’t like to share 😡😡. St be honest I prefer my prawns whole in a Chow-main or mild curry as opposed to prawn toast. Sadly at this time I find it a waste of money buying decent food after my brush with the dark side and my stay in the ICU. It wears me down to go shopping and I’ve temporarily lost my taste buds and sense of smell. The only way I get a bit of taste is to make a super hot curry, or to smother everything with lashings of Tabasco sauce. Why do I mention that?? It’s because I think Mr G is great. So I look to him to act as my food reviewer and taste bud stand in. And of course for his numerous way of looking at food. So Keep up the good wrk m9 🫶👍🏻👍🏻🫶.

I absolutely love Chinese food so much so I used to order 3 or 4 a week delivered from my local Chinese and some times I would collect them and due to that got to know the owners very well and ended up being invited to spend a week in their kitchen to learn how to cook Chinese food myself but you can't learn all the dishes in one week but learnt to make some of my favourites but the is alot more to learn so still order from them but only a couple of times in the week now 👍
