I’m on venlafaxine and it’s worked quite well for me. I came off sertraline to go on it which worsened my OCD (undiagnosed at the time) a lot. The withdrawal effects of venlafaxine are horrible though (brain zaps, sickness etc) but that shouldn’t be a problem if you take it regularly and consistently. I love you lots Marie, keep fighting lovely x

Venlafaxine was the first psychiatric med I was offered after I tried pretty much all of the SSRIs and I didn't react well to it at all, although I only took it one time. The immediate side-effects I got gave me a bit of a fright as it made me feel really weird and panicky, my pupils dilated etc.. I didn't take it again after that. My current psychiatrist has offered it as an option if my quetiapine on it's own doesn't work for me but I'm quite reluctant as I have a couple of friends from my STEPPS group for BPD who have said that the withdrawals are awful especially when trying to come off of it.. I've heard it described as withdrawals similar to those of coming off heroin so it's really put me off :( I guess medication reacts differently with everyone though so I really hope it helps you!

I'm on venlafaxine now and it works really well for me. I only get side effects if it gets too late in the day and i haven't taken it, i get brain zaps and stuff. When i went through a rough patch a few months ago, i thought i'd have to change meds, but it was increased instead and things improved again.

I was on venlafaxine for a while and as long as I was taking it I was fine(ish) I didn’t find that it helped much with my mood but my sleep improved when I was on it though probably too much - I was always tired and drinking made it worse so I wouldn’t recommend drinking on it. A massive massive problem for me though was the withdrawals - I could miss my dose by an hour and I would get extremely dizzy and have the weirdest brain zaps - they were almost unbearable. It’s not the sort of thing you can stop taking and I worried I may be on them for life because withdrawal from that drug is horrendous. I had enough and stopped taking them suddenly earlier this year and the weeks that followed were the worst - dizziness, insomnia, constant brain zaps and severe emotional instability. I cried uncontrollably and felt like I was going mad but I’m glad I pushed through because I’m off them now and will never take them again. My psychiatrist has given me quetiapine now and it is much better! x

thanks for the comment - med switching is scary and these comments are shedding light on drugs that my psychiatrist is recommending and suggesting i consider or not consider so this helps, much thanks

I'm currently on Venlafaxine and at my next appointment I'm gonna ask my psychiatrist for different meds. I was previously on Zoloft but needed something stronger so she put me on it, not a good idea tho... I have pretty bad side effects - feels like my head is about to explode, it's not pain but the feeling you have after a long day in a noisy environment, but to a severe degree where it's absolutely exhausting. Nausea pretty much every time i take it, my pupils are dialeted constantly, I don't sleep well (can't fall asleep, wake up several times during the night or just fall asleep for a few - usually around 4 hours and wake up very early in the morning). Also, I have no appetite. Doesn't even seem to help with my mood. I personally don't recomment but who knows, it might work for you.

Wow this is crazy watching now. At the end when your dad comes in and you're happy and singing and then the audio cuts, like I know it was probably just copyright flagging or whatever but it gave me chills. Like it made it so meaningful like when you watch montages of people's lives. It was really cool but also a little spooky. Anyway, I miss you, hope you're doing okay

I’m on venlafaxine 225 (been on it for ~3 years). I will warn you that if you miss a day the withdrawal is notoriously horrible. So put an alarm on your phone! I take half my dose in the morning and half at night because when I bumped up to 225 I would get side effects as the dose started to wear off. I’m not sure if it’s helpful because I’ve been on it so long, I don’t really remember what it was like before. Good luck! I hope it helps

I've been on venlafaxine for a good couple of months now and I'm on a small dose of lexapro aswell, but neither of them seem to be working for me. Night sweats is probs the WORST side effect I'm still dealing with but when I first started venlafaxine the immediate side effects I noticed were dilated pupils and headaches. I haven't really gotten any other side effects apart from that but sweating is the WORST. Love you lots xx

Hey!! really enjoyed watching your vlog!! thanks for posting. I'm on Venlafaxine and i have found it really helpful compared to ones i have been on before. The only thing i've noticed with it is that if i miss a day (due to be hungover and not wanting to vomit it back up :p) i feel incredibly dizzy and light headed. But besides that, its a thumbs up form me. Can't wait to watch more weekly vlogs, all my love, Rach xx

I was on venlafaxine for about 2 years(?) & it really helped with my anxiety tbh but it didn't suit me in that it fucked up my cholesterol(?) so I had to go off it. I did have side effects when I first started it (nausea for a day or two etc) but not many or very difficult side effects that lasted long. the only thing was that I had weird twitches in my arms and legs every once in a while? but it wasn't a bothersome side effect, just kind of funny tbh. it was the first medication I was ever put on, so I just found it by my doctor recommending it. so yes; the first week or so was rough but it really did help. do check up on your cholesterol & other levels if you use it for a long period of time though, since it can alter them. I hope it works for you!

Mix of mitzapine and now aripiprizole which makes me so anxious and has increased my symptoms more than ever I'm constantly on edge . I've been on 225mg of venlafaxine for like 2 years after getting really bad anxiety attacks from fluoxetine and it works great for me. I don't get any side effects on it but I will say if I miss a dose or two then it has pretty bad withdrawl symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and light headedness. It kind of feels like like I'm about to pass out every few minutes for just a split second (I've never actually fainted, just felt like I would). But as long as you stay consistent with it and never try to stop it cold turkey than it works great :).

I’ve been on venlafaxine, I’d say it’s probably the best antidepressant I’ve taken (I’ve tried most them: sertraline, flouroxotine, sitalopran etc) the only thing is it really numbs you a little and stops you from feeling stuff? That was kind of why I went to on it to control intense emotions etc but it felt a bit weird not being able to cry or anything. Also the only side effect which really effected me was if I ever forget to take it, it made me feel SO ILL, like really bad migraines, flu like symptoms, this was the same when I came off it but if I took it daily it was fine and the withdrawal symptoms pass! Overall a generally good one tho😊 I can’t speak for everyone, this is my personal experience with it but I hope maybe I helped a little! xx

Venlaflaxine is the best med I've tried so far! None of the v scary mental side effects and none of the weird jittery physical side effects either, bc I've definitely felt that with others. I'd say it's much slower working though than others I've tried, like it took a few months for me to have good benefits but definitely worth it in the end for me! It doesn't feel really powerfully drugs and chemically if that makes sense? I liked that, but it's different for everyone of course! It gives me the WORST hangovers tho lol 😂 All my love and support as always ❤️ u r so fab x

are you saying venlafaxine? aha because ive been on that and it was pretty okay exept the drowsiness, dizziness and headaches. so pretty normal like other anti anythings aha though its kind of better because it doesnt make you want to eat everything in sight like other meds. it did take a few days forr my body to get uded to it i think so i felt quite nauseous and ill for the first couple days. it didnt work too well for me though as it didnt really help my depression so it was pretty pointless xx idk if this will help but yeah x

I was on Venlafaxin and got bruises on my whole legs. That's why I stopped taking it. Side effects were not as bad as I had it with Escitalopram, but I took Venlafaxin right after Lexapro so that reduced side effects probably. But Venlafaxin actually worked. If that bruises wouldn't have had terrified me that much I would still take it.
