I worked in a GP surgery as a receptionist and then an administrator for 3 and a half years. It was 30 hours a week (although i did work 37.5 for a few months) and I was off sick for at least a year and a half of that because of my mental health, most of the time I was in hospital. I had to see occupational health 3 times and have my duties reduced. I think working made my mental health worse but I needed to do something for my own sanity. I'm now at college doing an access course 3 days a week and on the whole I feel so much better and my attendance has improved so much.

Loved this, could you please do stories on your admissions, like what happened before? X

I wear my arms out at work because i would die of heat exhaustion otherwise. Live in Australia and the shop has really shitty aircon. Also my cocktail of medications cause excessive/profuse sweating which is aweful. Anyway the only reaction I've got to my scars at my current job is when I was pointing at something, asking like "this one?" and my coworker said holy fuck under his breath. So I'm assuming it was in regards to my scars. I get asked about the sweating every now and then like if I'm ok or whatever, which i find more embarrassing. When it's really bad I look like I've just splashed water on my face. It definitely bothers me more than my scars do.

YES to the volunteering point! Volunteering at my local animal rescue has been my saving grace, the only consistent thing I’ve done in the past three years and I only do it one day a week. Even through dropping out of school I haven’t given it up. There’s a therapy in walking dogs for a few hours far away from home and everyone in your everyday life, I tell ya

This is incredibly helpful and reassuring. I haven't worked in well over a year due to my mental illness (I'm 22 and have had 2 jobs since I've been 18) as my family, friends, psychiatrist and other medical team advise me not to for quite a while. I would like to get a part time job at times but I know mentally and physically I am not ready. Thank you for this video 💜

Im currently going through interviews for UNI. The interview process video would be amazing as its such an anxious thought and interviews really scare me. Love this video, and you look so pretty!

I have extreme anxiety and depression, I’ve been working a year and a half and just got a new job and I’m struggling so much. It’s 16 hours and late nights and 6am mornings, this video made me feel less alone

When I'm having a bad day and I force myself to go to work I generally end up finding ways to self harm while at work...I hate work and it triggers me and I get so anxious. My current job is better than the one before but it still has such a negative impact on me. I'm just about to start an 18 week course (which stresses me out even more than work) so that I can hopefully find a job as an ani al carer or groomer because I think thats just about the only job I could look forward to instead of dread. But I still worry that won't be enough.

You should be proud of how much you actually tried and got so many jobs, that's so great! I've had mentally ill friends who haven't really gained any work experience because they'd never worked before and that's really difficult. Customer service jobs are probably the worst for people with anxiety and who are just introverts. I've decided not to take on those kinds of jobs anymore. I'm starting a new job soon and I'm excited because it's actually something I want to do.

Wonder if the supermarket was Morrisons. I’m on a 7.5 hour contract but I do 20+ a week whilst at college and placement. It’s exhausting and taking a toll on my anxiety but hopefully it will calm down once college finishes

Please do more videos like this. This one helped me a lot! I've had BPD, depression and anxiety since i was 18/19 and i'm 24 now, I'll be 25 in April. I was scheduled for my one on one assessment in mid March which I've been waiting for since June 2017, this appointment would lead me on to a few more assessments before i could start therapy in spring/summer but i was told 2 weeks ago by my dad that we have to move to Birmingham at the end of this month which is next week!!! I'd have to start the waiting game for treatment all over again and i'm at my wits end :( on top of this i HAVE to get job in order to live...I can't do customer service jobs as my anxiety goes through the roof! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know as i'm seriously struggling.

I have scars all down both of my arms, and very often fresh cuts. I always cover it with long sleeved shirts in work and jumpers etc. at college, but my work are changing the uniform to short sleeved polos in the next month and I don't know what to do
@MarinasBirthday6 жыл бұрын
Emily Harley that’s horribly stressful I’m sure for you 😞 Can you wear a thin long sleeved top underneath? Like the cheap ones you can get in Penney’s/Primark? They wouldn’t make you too warm, and if your employer mentions it I’m sure you could just say you get cold easily, or are uncomfortable showing them.

It’s rather difficult to get your meaning because you laugh so much. It makes you seem insincere.
