On the strength of your Wilson V6 review, I bought a set of Wilson F5 irons. Got them for £229 in a black Friday deal. Delighted with them and the £750 saving over Taylormade.
@malcolmevans26637 жыл бұрын
notformebeaky Well not entirely on the strength of the review. I've played the original FG Tours for several years. They are great clubs but not really forgiving enough for me. The V6s are direct replacement albeit 3 generations on. The F5s are much the same mould; same lofts and forged but slightly bigger, with more perimeter weighting. I had already been fitted for shafts etc so knew what specs I needed. Rick's review convinced me the latest Wilson irons would be just as good as the originals. I was not disappointed.

Hi Rick, you've done a lot of testing on the different drivers through the years recently.. Id like to see the difference in the 8 (I think) iron sets TM have out this year. I appreciate they are aimed at different players but do you need 8 options a year? I like choice but is there actually any difference between the 770 and 750 for instance? Cheers..

Hey Rick love the vids! I just got the m3s and haven't played yet but tested them out and was hitting my 7 iron 210 and my 8 200. Love the distance e but like you said the gap between clubs is crazy

Hey Rick, I enjoy watching your videos due to the honest reviews and feedback you give. I’ve been taking lessons recently from a PGA pro and he changed my swing completely. Watching the video you had made awhile ago with MEANDMYGOLF analyzing your swing, I realized that our swings are identical. I also have the tendency to swing 8-9 degrees right. Which for me, being a fairly new player, is incredible considering a few weeks ago I was striking polar opposite. Long story short, do you have any swing tips/ advice for me? I struggle with too much club face manipulation within my swing. And I also struggle a little with attacking down on the ball with irons. Thanks for any tips! Hopefully this question is still applicable, all things considered!
@bdeheton64457 жыл бұрын
You know what truly makes a 7 iron more forgiving - more loft. Most golfers can hit a 34 degree 7 iron MUCH better than a jacked up 28.5 degree 7 iron with the loft that is stronger than some 6 irons. These lofts are just ridiculous and are going to make these irons LESS forgiving for the average golfer. My 5 iron is only 1.5 degrees stronger than the M4 7 iron - that is crazy.
@alanclayton39707 жыл бұрын
Could not have put it better. I cannot see how this sort of iron would help an average golfer like myself. If they made a 34 degree 7 iron, which gave me a high ball flight and another 20 yards distance, then yes!
@johnnypenso95747 жыл бұрын
Not sure why everyone gets bent out of shape with the lofts on clubs. If the 8 iron in this set has traditional 7 iron loft and distance then hit an 8 where you'd normally hit a 7. Why does it matter? It's just a number on the bottom. The only number that matters is the one on the scorecard.
@bdeheton64457 жыл бұрын
Which is why these are really a con. Putting an 8 on a 7 iron, etc. Gets even worse on the bottom end, as the loft of the M4 5-iron is the same as my 3-iron. I wonder how the average golfer is going to cope with hitting a 3-iron - stamped with a 5 on the bottom to make them feel good - into a green. Good luck!
@mpigroup41597 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Makes no sense. If I want to hit a 195 yard shot than I'll hit my 5 iron. Loft is loft. They're putting too much gap in the shorter irons.
@slidetechnologies75736 жыл бұрын
Everyone has this same fricken argument, yet everyone keeps missing the fricken point!! Yes the lofts are stronger, yes any golf manufacturer can do the same, but can you get the same type of height, landing angle and backspin with your 7 iron as you do with PW or 9 iron? Well that's what the M4 and M3 is about. Pay attention and stop worrying about stronger lofts. If you hit the ball that long and straight stick with your wedge from the marker!

Thanks for the review and comments Rick. I see a lot of reviewer and viewer comments about loft and distance, and to some extent spin. But I don't see much about gap distances, shot shape, the playability of the club. Does TM provide you with enough equipment to make those determinations? It would seem reasonable to at least provide a 9, 8, 7 and 6 to see if these would make any sense for a golfer with your swing speed and strike pattern.

Rick is the strong lofts not just a con for the ill informed? People that want to think they are hitting a 7 iron 165 yards but they’re really just hitting a 6 iron. What’s the point? Also a 43 degree pitching wedge? Why do you want a PW to go further, just hit a 9 iron! Am I missing something?

Other point is the shaft length . Take a 6 irons and cut an inch off the length ?? I would like to see how high they hit compared to a reg 35 degree 7 iron.. Basically I ignore what the club says underneath and know how far I hit each and go by that ..
@alanclayton39707 жыл бұрын
Specially in the hands of an average golfer. Watching a PGA professional hit a 28 degree club with professional club head speed means very little to me. I am a very average golfer and basically watching this video tells me nothing.
@bdeheton64457 жыл бұрын
Lowering the loft of any given club narrows the size of the D-plane wedge, which means any mishits or offline shots will be more aggressively offline. This is why many golfers are better using more loft on their driver rather than less. Mishits are worse the lower the loft, and that is because of the physics of D-plane (mytrackman.com/university/learning-tools/understanding-the-d---plane)
@johnnypenso95747 жыл бұрын
Six of one, half dozen of the other. Maybe it means you carry one less club on the high end and one extra wedge. 13 clubs is more than enough clubs to get you around.

For example, I pay off 8, average 260 off the tee (M2 original version driver) should I buy the RS1 irons which you have rated highly in the past, or the new P790? Yea they are stronger lofted, from looking at all the comments you dont understand that they are designed to go higher and the height of a normal loft. And that is suited to other different golfers and slower seing speeds better. High launch low spin is accurate but might not be good in the 5 to 4 irons for stopping. So basically they are hybrid irons

Don't test one seven iron against another one as if they are interchangeable, the numbers stamped on them are irrelevant. Instead put the flag some distance away and figure out which club you would actually pick for that given distance from the sets you are reviewing, that's what's comparable. If it's an eight vs. a seven so be it. That is the real choice for golfers out on the course. Love the work you put in Rick, thank you!

If you could add a small section to the video indicating what handicapper might look seriously at the set you review. Will be interesting to see how spin/distance compare to last year's model or even the RSI (if it is possible to make a fair comparison with loft changes) Just had a look on the TM site. If you were to get all M4 irons (4-LW) that's 10 irons. Add a putter and you have 11 clubs. How do you reasonably fit 3 clubs above the 19 degree 4 iron to make up 14 clubs?
