I wish this was out there more. ‘GET FITTED FOR NEW CLUBS’ messages are great for people with a practiced, solid swing. For new, or returning golfers with a swing that changes daily…… the clubs are a much smaller variable in the result. Great video

@@SASGolf hi there ! I’m coming back to the game after 25 year lay off and I’m hitting all my irons very very high !!! I feel I’m not getting the handle in front of the hall at impact and may be flipping too ! Any advice or tips to help with this ? I’ve tried to tell myself not to do it but it doesn’t work

I hit my neighbors 735cm's better than my M4s. I guess I still kind of have my swing I learned in the 90s. It's in there somewhere. I believe the offset in the M4 hurts more than it helps. I used his 2 iron over my driver this weekend. Yup.... fairway all day.

When you hear them, these concepts are so logical. Can only speak about me, get frustrated if I don’t see immediate results and then try something else. Very clear I need to stick with one regiment and perfect it. Today at the range was hitting my irons purely but couldn’t get a wood off the deck. Last week just the opposite. You are spot on with your instruction, I need to follow through with it.
@mugshotmarley

Even tho its obvious, I always need to remind myself that swinging a wood is completely different from swining an iron. Most times Ill remember, but a lot of times especially when Im a little distracted I grab my driver and just swing at it. I need to be more deliberate about the details of the swing before I swing.

Thanks for the instruction. I went on about a five year journey looking for the irons that would be "just right". I ended up with a really easy to hit recent set of irons before realizing if I can't hit these I can't hit anything only to discover I couldn't hit anything. However I always had a fresh comparison on equipment. Sad I know. So your video came along I have been working very hard on more rotation and better contact. I like your start small and expand technique because it works. Thanks again.

Honestly I just came across this and I think I had an awakening.. I’ve been doing that wrist thing you described at around 6:30 seconds all last season (it was my first) and I couldn’t find a way to describe it to even correct it, it’s horribly inconsistent and when you showed the angle in this video it was like my eyes were opened as far as the proper hinging motion you were describing.. going to go back to the drawing board.. thank you sir!

This is a PERFECT example of technique vs technology. I swing a nearly 40 year old set of Ping Irons and the yardages are about 20 yards shorter than modern clubs through the bag. Granted, I am not the best at ball striking, but this video is a GREAT example of getting technique down first before buying expensive new equipment. Money is better spent on lessons. Cheers.

Don't worry about the number on the clubs. Worry more about the loft of the clubs. My old set of irons the pitching wedge has a loft of 51° and in the new set of irons pitching wedge is 44°. Old 4 iron is 27° new 4 iron is 20°

I was on the range last night Simon. Trying to fix my aim and my take away. 60 balls with the 7 iron short swing, then had a break and went into the 5 iron with a fuller swing. 2 young man appeared and proceeded to hit 100 drivers very quickly and got worse. Videos like this are worth their weight in gold. I was taught if you want to hit your driver straight then first learn how to hit your 7 iron straight. Then your 5 iron. Then your 3 iron. Then if you really feed the need to hit driver hit 3 at the end. That is limit of my driver practice - 3 balls.

@@only_son5040 Hi, one of the drills we used to teach young juniors was to start at address and then with no backswing push the ball away and go through to a full follow through finishing with all the weight on the leading foot and the trailing foot on it's toe. Just like your favourite Pro on tv. It feels very weird and looks a bit stupid but it gives you an idea of where your body needs to go. You can do it in the back garden hundreds of times. You can do it every day for 10 minutes even in the dark through the winter. You can expand on it and put yourself in an impact position before you push the ball away. Hands a little forward and the hips starting to open towards the target. Turn through until your belt buckle is pointing at target or even left of target if you are flexible enough. Then it's clip the tee in the back garden with a backswing to start it. Swing as slow as you can. Best of luck.

I probably needed to hear this. Getting back into the game after about 15 years. The clubs were new then, not top of the line but “fine”. I have been looking at other iron sets but honestly some time learning and practice is a far better use of my money. Though these new fangled big putter grips do seem to be really comfortable so maybe that can keep the GAS at bay for a while.

This right here is worth alot. Earlier this year I had totally lost my golfing mojo, guess it was to much christmas food or something. Anyways when I came back I couldn´t strike it at all. Took a couple of lessons, and they basically had me doing this, starting with small chips, going on to half swing, to 3/4 swings. And whenever I messed up I had to go down to a shorter swing untill I was back. Now at the end of summer I'm striking it better than ever before. Even got my draw back, so imagine that... It pays off to work consistently... Now I can try to eat less xmas food this season... and maybe still be in shape

I have a boxed set (Wilson Profile SGI) and after recording my numbers on range for a couple of weekends found that 8 and 9 are going almost the same distance (125 and 130) with little to no difference. Since they don't provide any specs of the clubs, I measured the loft myself and realized that they don't gap their clubs evenly. 9 iron is 34.5 degree loft and 8 iron is 33 degree loft. I guess everyone has a different reason to upgrade clubs

Great video and the clear message is don’t spend money on new or fitted clubs until your swing is perfected to your expectation. Loved the drills and simplified explanations, and would suggest players not to only understand the what to do, but the why i.e. shift the weight forward to move the arc low point forward and hence a downward strike.

What about lie angles and shaft weight & stiffness. Could any of these be factors for not getting centeredness of strike, fats, thins...etc. I have been to a couple of fitters and they both landed on 3° upright and extra stiff 125 gram shafts. Right now I'm playing standard lie, regular flex 105 or 110 gram shafts. I'm wondering if the shafts and lie are causing some of my strike problems at high speed because I can make really good strikes on half swings but fat, thin, tops on full speed swing. 5 iron 200 yards, 7 iron 175....on clean hits which are few and far between.
@roblancaster2036

Follow up, how about clubs like the eleven hybrid irons or Cleveland Halo XL? Would these clubs be forgiving enough to allow more enjoyment while working on fixing the fats, thins, hitting up, centeredness of strike....etc. I have completely stopped playing holes from the tee box because my mishits are so bad and frequent that it's just not fun. Handicap 30+ with less than 2 putts per hole on average. I can't hit anything longer than a pitch.

Hi I want to change some of my irons 😂 i have callaway x hot 4-pw. Love my 4-7 irons. They are great and goes a good distance. But my pw-8 irons are harder. They jump so much and goes very high. I also have a sm8 47 degree wedge to fit inbetween my 52 wedge and my x hot pw. I love the sm8 47 wedge. It is acctally easier for me to use that then ky x hot pw. Mostly because it's easier to change the flight higher or lower and so on. So my question is, I am looking for a half set to change to a more of a players iron at the lower end of the bag. You have any suggestions there? Been looking at the callaway apex 19 combo set but I am not sure I want to change my top end of the irons since they work great and I probably need the help up there.
