I have wanted to cut he cord for years. When I visit the AW site to see my reception possibilities. The site said I had NO possibility of reception in my area. So this delayed my decision to CTC until I watched this video. I purchased this antenna, found a reclaimed 30 ft steel tower and attached it with RG-11 cable, as my run would be 100 ft. I was shocked! We pointed it towards the towers (60 miles away)...86 channels! Yes, a bunch of duplicates, but now we have dependable 50 channels! Thank you Tyler! We also went with the Tablo Quad. I wish their technology was a bit better...but at least we are able to record ota shows. THANK YOU TYLER! I wouldn't have known any of this without your videos.

Bought this antenna based on your review. Works excellent. My old antenna maxed out at 54 channels. This picked up 67 in passive state. After connecting to power, the next scan added 21 more channels. Total channels received 88. I can’t wait to rescan when all the leaves are finished falling. Hands down best antenna I’ve ever owned. I’ve had 2 previous that both maxed at 54 with all the leaves gone.

I bought this model after consulting with Tyler. Best antenna for my situation. I am in very mountainous country far from most of the major networks. I bought one of these (149884) to replace my channel master in my attic which was "omni-directional" I sold the c/m locally along with a c/m amp and c/m splitter for more than I paid for the televes, which does not need the amp or splitter because they are built in. I'm shooting 65 miles as the crow flies North at 337 degrees to Springfield Mo and it works great. It also receives the pbs stations to the South from the back end--all in the attic. Over 37 stations very clear( some are repetitive). Thank you Tyler--keep up the great info.

I installed exactly this DatBoss LR Mix model a few months ago. Bought it to replace another Televes antenna the Ellipse Mix which I still am using mounted 10' lower on the same pole facing 150* in another direction feeding 2 other TV sets. The Ellipse is an excellent antenna limited to 60 miles but did pick up 1 Tower 78 miles away with a strong broadcast. However it picked up 2 other towers with less broadcast power erratically, meaning only at night. This DatBoss LR Mix replacing the Ellipse aimed at those 3 towers now picks them up perfectly plus a 4th tower 12 miles further which due to earth curvature on a 22' antenna pole should be virtually impossible but I do lose this particular tower sporadically. Best is all local towers within 40 miles from all directions are received & 3 towers in-line are never over-powered. Because this antenna only feeds my wife's bedroom TV which she plays maybe 8 hours per day & every night, I have spent major money purchasing other long range antenna, signal amps, pre-amps. Her reception is of paramount in importance & this is the best I have tried. What I like most is the build quality & balance. It does come disassembled & took me about an hour to put it together following both the directions & a KZbin video. Be extra careful to have the antenna horizontally level. My location is central Louisiana flat land but I have trees partially blocking reception within 70". Because of HOA rules I am limited to 20' in height for an antenna. I also have a 3rd antenna installed which is a figure eight appearing plastic model from another manufacturer which is mounted 12' on a separate pole & is very good local only. It feeds a 75" TV in the ManCave. It's biggest problem is interference from passing auto's requiring me to rotate it in a non preferred direction. Both Televes antenna have no interference problems. From my personal experience, Televes is the best antenna's on the market & I have tried. I am a long time cord cutter refusing to pay $120 per month for cable in this market. I also stream using AT&T unlimited 1gig fiber.

After your review and a few others I purchased the Televes antenna. It replaced a medium to larger sized antenna. The old antenna would pull in 30 - 35 channels of which many weren’t viewable. Pointed it where RabbitEars said I would receive the most channels. Had the antenna pass through a Mediasonic tuner and the first scan found a whopping 83 channels! Everyone was watchable and not pixelated. Can’t say enough good things about this antenna. Was able to pick up a channel we almost never could off the side of the side of the Televes when the other one couldn’t bring it in when pointed straight at it.

Very interesting . It seems like Televes is the one of the only companies trying to update their designs (antennas and amps) for the newer TV spectrum. I'm interested in how this antenna does in comparison to a long UHF yagi antenna like the Stellar Labs 30-2370. I have the best reception in my area with a large UHF yagi antenna. I'd have a hard time trying a new antenna. $180 is quite steep when it might not work better than my current set-up (Stellar Labs 30-2370 + Kitz KT200 Amp.
@Davesworld72 жыл бұрын
Apples and oranges, that antenna you list appears to be a clone of the Antennas Direct so I have no idea if it performs the same. I have one that the model you listed is a clone of hooked to an Avant X which brings the best out of it. The Televes is more compact and it does a very good job in UHF which is where most of the engineering is and it offers a reasonable VHF signal. The Stellar labs antennas that are designed to look similar to the Televes, avoid. I would not buy anything from Stellar Labs. Even my Antennas Direct original UHF Yagi is very fragile and can be bent up easily. The preamp you listed is far from ideal for two reasons, it can overdrive the signal with no AGC to prevent it, the other reason is that it has to be within reach of a wall outlet. It's better to use a model that requires a power injector so the preamp can be connected at the antenna end. On the TV end, you amplify noise and interference, on the antenna end you only amplify the antenna and by doing so, you raise the signal further from the noise floor rather than amplify it. If you ONLY need UHF and want to use that antenna, I would recommend that you use one of the newer Televes mast mounted preamps as those will guard against overdriving which is far common than one would think. The symptoms on the TV of an overdriven signal are the same as a weak signal, pixellation, blank picture etc. To me an expensive antenna is the commercial grade used by satellite and cable providers to grab local channels with an antenna farm and they are not available to the public readily. These start in the 400 dollar range and can be over a grand. They also usually only cover one band. Separate Low VHF (Band I) and High VHF (Band III) and separate UHF and can be had in Yagi or LPDA, the latter being larger but better side lobe rejection, swr and flat impedance over the passband with each element being a separate dipole with reversed polarity from adjacent dipoles. There are also single channel antennas. They also have optional brackets to arrange dual antennas in vertical or horizontal or quad antennas in a diamond pattern. The Televes with it's built in proper preamp at the dipole itself is actually a bargain compared to you will end up spending to get the Stellar Labs to work properly without overdriving and that's if it even has decent RF reception. The Televes are not overly large and unattractive to most I hope. Some people just hate antennas, I like them and they perk up my interest when I see one driving around, more points for a 30 foot tilting tower. If there are any single women out there who love antennas, hit me up, maybe we can design a boutique look on a powerful antenna. If apple can create something out polycarbonate that people treat as a fashion accessory as if it is a precious stone, nothing is impossible.

$180 is a bargain compared to Channel Master 😂
@jTempVids2 жыл бұрын
@@jbetnar I know. I guess I should of phrased it differently. Once you have a $200+ set-up it's hard to just "try" something else that cost $180 when you don't know if it will work any better than what you have. I need to know that an antenna will perform better than my current set-up before I spend another $200. You can't return a lot of antennas just because you don't like them or they don't work better for you. In a lot of Tyler's videos he doesn't compare the antennas to the "best" antenna (in that class) that he's tried before. I know that there are difference antennas for different jobs. In most videos he compares them to random antennas or previously reviewed antennas. You can't watch his videos and easy find which antenna has the strongest gain or best reception because he doesn't compare them to the best. For example in this video I would have liked the DATBOSS LR Mix to be compared to a large UHF yagi (HDB91X), a large Channel Master or a Denny's Double stack. The only method to truly compare antennas is to have them set up right beside each other with a selector switch and compare the readings for each channel. Find out which antenna has better reception. Record data. Replace weaker antenna with another and repeat until you have the best antenna. I remember seeing on an antenna forum where a guy did something like that with 20 antennas. He drove to an area 50 miles from a tower in a field. Brought 20 antennas with him and compared them all. At the end he could tell which was the best out of the antennas he brought.

I've since built a carport canopy over the RV and lost that channel completely. I plan on mounting this on a mast above the canopy. It's arriving today, hope it works at least as good as the King Jack did. I also kinda hope the 12v power supply from the Jack antenna will work with this one since it's integrated in the camper. Not a big deal if it don't, it'll just be cleaner looking if it does.

@Davesworld72 жыл бұрын
Good they added a second preamp that has it's own AGC so we are up to separate AGCs for VHF and UHF. VHF needed it's own preamp with it's own AGC because the VHF on these antennas is nothing compared to the UHF. I'm not surprised to see the VHF improving by 3db which is significant. The UHF of the previous generation was pretty good to begin with but makes LTE rejection that much easier and of course designing for a narrower spectrum improves that range given correct math was used. I have dream, to have a dream, no seriously, with Cellular Data requiring more bandwidth as time goes by with the consumer expecting more, the sub 1ghz cellular bands cannot carry the bandwidth of the over 1ghz frequencies so my dream is to get the spectrum back. Future cellular could well be low earth orbit.

Only downside to this antenna is that it is very directive and as such, a lesser antenna which may pick up signals over a 45 degree arc may seem 'better' in some cases. But as stated, no antenna is one size fits all. My opinion (and I own an 883 and three 884's) is that there is no better UHF antenna made for pulling in a signal that you can aim at. And the construction quality is several levels over most anything else made. Wish they made a similar quality multi element 2-13 antenna.
@bjs20222 жыл бұрын
Bob Hawkins. The best antenna is the one that works for you. You have to remember that part of Televes’ performance advantage is their unique built-in auto-gain preamplifier that not only compensates for distribution signal loss but also improves any antenna’s performance. The venerable Antennas Direct 91XG is unchanged and still selling well since the the late 1990s at the beginning of DTV before there were many stations that were transmitting on RF VHF. I have four of them. You still see many old antennas of that design in Europe and in the the U.S. in the 1970s Channel Master had three sizes of their “Super Diamond Quantum®️”, the 4247, 4248, and the 4257 that succeeded their giant parabolic models. I have two of the 4248s and for me it is about equal to the 91XG but some DXers say it was better than the 91XG. At my difficult reception (refraction) location I have to have separate antennas in different spots and heights and no Televes combination model works for me for both UHF and VHF.
@BobOnTheJob12 жыл бұрын
@@bjs2022 Agree on all points. My solution involved an 883 (only because the 884 was not available then) with no preamp and a Stellar Labs VHF HI yagi. Those run into a Televes preamp near the antennas that has separate UHF and VHF Hi inputs. The performance on 7-36 exceeded my high expectations. Been using an MXV5100 applied to the low VHF input but I am less than thrilled with it's performance. It sits within 4' of my FM yagi and I fear that it and the FM antenna may both be compromised by that proximity. I think the MXV will be moving down to the chimney before the snow flies.

@craigarnold12122 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tyler! To your point about atmospherics. We both know they were pretty good when you reviewed the Ellipse and fairly degraded now so the Dat Boss LR won out on dealing with season variation probably. Glad you figured out the magic is in the preamp. I picked up one of these end of May after working with the Range Expert and not being able to bring in the 4K signals from Seattle reliably. Like I could via the older Dat Boss LR and the Stellar. I had been playing with height of the new Dat Boss LR and got all of the 4K channels for two nights [RF 24 has KOMO, KIRO, KUNS and 31 KING, KONG, KCPQ, KZJO] but King TV would not open. I am beginning to wonder if the adopters are using the same RF but on different towers or if the height of the transmitter on the tower differs for each broadcaster and may relate to signal strength? The weakest that would open was KZJO with Signal Quality at 42 and Strength in the high 70's. It played pretty well but not to a reliable record level. The new VHF elements even had me seeing RF 11 of the old standard during the evenings much like the Stellar but here the new preamp makes all the difference in my mind along with one fewer combiner. A friend of mine used the Range Experts UHF element and my Stellar to pull in +65 channels at his house. Even RF 9 [PBS] at night time which is more than 50 miles and very low power. He also has my old DB LR and Ellipse. It may be that the ellipse may have a slightly wider angle than the Dat Boss but definitely wider angle than the Range Expert. It looks like the Ellipse Mix will be the only upgraded version to survive that series. Do you know if they will make a Repack version of the Dat Boss Mix with lo VHF and new preamp? Do you think Televes would sell the new preamp to older Ellipse and Dat Boss owners or maybe make an upgrade package? Just got a post card they will be cutting the trees out of the power lines in my area in three weeks, about time since they are now above the top lines. Hoping that may open up a different placement for my antenna pole to test. Maybe like with solar installers we need a drone but with an RF scanner? I did take one up 65' with a cherry picker looking for a signal, once.

Excellent, especially stressing that the term “headroom”, how far above the threshold for DTV to get a solid picture with changing/variable reception is needed because of weather and the seasons.

I have this antenna, but installed it upside down. It has great signals on all local channels. Is there any reason that I should take down my 30' pole and turn the antenna over?

I tested this antenna against the clearstream 4 max, and the 4max beat it hands down. Not only was the clearstream picking up more channels from all directions, but the channels had higher signals. The televes is 10 times the size of the 4 max, but could not match it. Used the included amp on the boss, and used a televes amplifier on the 4 max.
@AntennaManАй бұрын
This might be because the ClearStream 4Max isn't as directional, meaning it might pick up more channels if your stations are spread out.

It would be nice if you could re-compare some of these new long range high tech antennas with some of the older style large "Radio Shack" style antennas like the Channel Master CM3020 you did three years ago. The readings in that review seem to be from completely different stations so I'm guessing they don't compare. I don't think I've seen any good side by side comparisons with those super large antennas next to the new compact designs from Televes and the like.
@AntennaMan2 жыл бұрын
I actually no longer own the large CM3020. It's not worth repurchasing the antenna and spending hours remaking the video as it would mess up the current reach of the video and my channel. I can tell you the CM3020 does better on the VHF band (especially low VHF) than the Televes LR Mix while the Televes does better on the UHF band where most TV stations are on.
@jjones25822 жыл бұрын
@@AntennaMan - I wasn't specifically talking about getting the CM3020 again, but Channel Master still makes those type of Antennas like the Advantage 60 or Advantage 100.

How is the amp on this antenna powered? I have seen that it has a 3 foot power cable which is not anywhere sufficient to reach the height of my antenna. Are there other options?

My antenna is in my attic and my channelmaster powered splitter is about 5 feet away from it. Will this antenna cause to much gain when used in conjunction with my 4 way powered splitter or would it help

Looks like this might be the one to try if you don't have room for Winegard or Channel Masters biggest antennas.

i had a recommendation by "The Antenna Man" about a year ago and I purchases the old version of the DATBOSS LR Mix ( Model 149833 ) and it works great. I was wondering if there are new updated parts I could replace on my old model? Like the rear reflector or the pre-amp? If so, where can I purchase them, if there are interchangeable on the old model ( Model 149833 ). Any info would be appreciated.

I would be worried about exposing the amplifier to direct and rain. I would make some kind of deflector to shade the amplifier.

These antennas are installed in over 100 countries in all sorts of environments. From scorching hot in Africa to subzero in Scandinavia. The preamplifier is fully shielded and weather resistant.

I purchased a DATBOSS Model 149884 last year for my location in the Michigan City, IN area (near Chicago). While it has served me well, lately I have temporarily lost channel signals at times. I don't know if this is due to spring/summer and foliage on the oak trees, signals from the broadcast towers, needing to change my coax cable run after getting my roof re-shingled, or installing my antenna higher (about 25' above the ground...Or maybe I should upgrade? That would be a bit frustrating as I spent about $200 last year.
@AntennaMan2 жыл бұрын
You should not need to upgrade your antenna. You already have one of the best models. What I would suggest is to check the power inserter to make sure the status light is still on. If it's not on you may need to replace the power inserter.

I'm having a difficult time finding a good antenna that works for television as well as my stereo receiver. I'm not sure if the antennas don't do low band UHF, or if the amplifiers in the antennas cause interference with the FM tuner in the receiver. If you think this model does well for UHF band, I'd like to see how it would work with radio reception as well.
@AntennaMan2 жыл бұрын
Most antennas don't have low VHF capability for FM. I wouldn't recommend this model for you since it has an FM filter. Buy one of the low VHF antennas in the video below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKDXp3ybrJqnp9E

Tyler, in your opinion, how does the DATBOSS LR compare with the Channel Master 3020? I am currently using a Clearstream 4V with a Televes preamp but on windy or rainy days, I experience signal loss. Also am experiencing loss due to extreme heat.
@AntennaMan2 жыл бұрын
The Channel Master CM3020 will be it on VHF, but the DATBOSS LR will beat the CM3020 on UHF which is where most TV stations are. The ClearStream 4V is a very basic small directional antenna. The Televes DATBOSS should be an improvement compared to what you have now and would probably be better than the CM3020. If did you want me to take a look at your reception to determine if you even need to go as large as the DATBOSS Mix you can sign up for my consultation service below. www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
