I did install that antenna at my mother's home in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The area is a valley surrounded by mountains and trees. The DAT BOSS had no problems picking up the local stations with Zero Pixelation. None of the channel master and antennas direct deep fringe antennas that I did try worked as well as this one. I did add Dielectric Grease to the connectors to avoid moisture generated by tropical weather. Any Televes product... just works perfect. Invest and forget.

ThankYouTyler for recommending this antenna for me. Living in a rural area about 60 - 70 miles away from the nearest tv stations, I was only able to slightly pick up 2 channels with the “junk” antenna. With this antenna, I am able to pick up all the channels in my area, still 60 - 70 miles away, and haven’t had any issues for over a month so far. It is worth the money for Tyler’s recommendation, it saved me hundreds of dollars from trial and error. Thank You so much Tyler

2 different types of splitters. 1. Power passing. 2.Non Power Passing If a splitter is in the coax system , between amplifier power supply and amplifier that is close to antenna. Then use a splitter that will pass the power from point A to point B. Also I do not recommend use USB to power device. Use the power that is a transformer that is plugged in to the electric wall outlet. The name of the game is a clear path from point A to point B.

@chrismoore2461 you should be able. I have this one I my attic and the reception has been great. A few variables can affect results. If you find the direction of the broadcast source from your position, aiming the boom at the source as best you can makes a big difference. I also found that some TV models have better onboard tuners than others, so something to consider.

When you brought up WCAU's being broadcast on Channel 28, it reminded me that I was one of the contractors at WPVI DT-6, working on a coaxial cable feed problem (at WPVI's 'roundhouse' ), when a contractor working on WCAU's new DTV antenna, at the Domino Lane antenna farm lost his life when he fell from a point of about ¾ of the tower's height. That day, I learned that Philly broadcasters banded together to help each other during a crisis, in a way similar to what must have taken place during the time of Jim O'Brien's passing. A lot can be said about Philly being a bad place, however, with respect to the electronic media, Philly's broadcasters definitely come together in times of crisis. After reminding myself of the events that day, it made me realize that great sacrifices were made in that case, for an over the air signal, and it needs to be appreciated.

Philly IS a bad place. I would consider it the worst place I’ve lived, and I’ve lived in a lot of places. Really mean and aggressive people often for no apparent reason. I stayed two years before going back to DC. DC, usually don’t bother you if you’re not bothering them. New York, if they’re nasty you usually asked for it by doing something stupid.

I was very reluctant to move from a Winegard 7698p to the TELEVES DAT BOSS MIX LR. I tested the Televes for six months and it has far exceeded my wildest expectations. Flawless reception on every channel, most of which are 1 kw at a minimum of 20 miles away ranging to 67 miles. About the only negative I can think of is to allow yourself at least ONE hour to properly assemble this masterpiece. Great antenna and worth every penny!!!!!!!!

@@AntennaMan The Televes DAT BOSS MIX LR outperformed the winegard by a wide margin on UHF, particularly the lower portion of the UHF frequencies, like Rf 14-22. On high VHF, the performance was similar to the winegard but, as you mentioned, the Televes had lower noise levels. Overnight, I am usually able to receive Rf 8, Rf 10 and Rf 12 from Phoenix with intermittent audio and video. That did not happen with the winegard. That's a tropo signal, telecasting from 90 miles away, at 3250 AMSL. The mountains between the transmitter and my antenna are 7,642 feet with my antenna at 5,300 feet in Prescott, AZ. The metal pieces on this antenna are pretty well made. I like that it has a direct 75 ohm connector instead of having to use a transformer, which is usually a pain to get on and tends to break off because the connection point is usually bigger than the clasps on the transformer.

I have several UHF and VHF antennas and combos in several different locations and have had experience with multiple different antennas both small and large up to a 40 foot long 70 lb 12 element laser CB antenna . I have a Televes LR MIX I installed at my father- in - laws rural location . Being able to tilt the mount slightly was a great aide in improving signal strength/quality since his location receives a signal that is partially blocked by a high ridge several miles away and he is about 40 miles away from mid strength stations. The Televes worked better than other long range UHF antennas including the Antennas Direct 91 XG. The Televes antenna was however a little more difficult to assemble than most other UHF antennas though it was worth it. I also tried not powering the built in amplifier and placing another high quality Amplifier a few feet below the Televes antenna and it did not work any better if anything not quite as good. Another website that may be helpful if it is still available though somewhat outdated is TV FOOL but more recently I have gotten more useful station information from Rabbit Ears. Good informative unbiased video.!

Plugged in the antenna without the Televes filter/gadget and got channels, but low signal strength. Plugged in the gadget now they are all full strength. Am I seeing the signal strength from the Televes gadget or is that the actual OTA signal? Cant get my brain around that quite yet. Installed this antenna. Amazingly easy to put together except one thing.....those goofy mounting pole connectors. Because the support arms are curved, there are two adjustments you have to do to those mounting brackets. There is no ratchet or any guide on the support arms to tell you exactly where they’re supposed to go. As I was struggling with the mounting brackets, I broke off one of the adjacent deflector rods. This antenna is amazingly strong yet I managed to still break off one of the deflector arms. Tried gluing it back on with Gorilla Glue, which managed to only stick to my hands and my shirt. I originally wrote that I lost a couple of additional channels that I was getting with a test run using a small TV and a short cable up in the attic. Channel scan was not picking them up on the TVs in the bedroom and family room. I later discovered that if I punched in the RF channel or the virtual channel number directly, the TV picked up and added the channels. The signals were apparently too weak to be picked up by channel scan. I put a terminator cap on the second output of the amplifier. My reception ended up being the same as it was when I did the test run in the attic. The reception is more stable and the signal levels much stronger than the 8-bay antenna I used before.

I had this antenna and sent it back. I'm 69 miles from most stations with edge 2 obstructions. I originally had the Xtreme Signal Long Range Yagi Style UHF HDTV Antenna (HDB91X) and thought the Televes would be a little better but to my surprise the $49 Xtreme Signal antenna picked up several more stations and more stable. With the Televes I actually lost a couple of channels (even more loss without the pre-amp engaged). I do have a Channel Master cm-7777hd pre-amp on the Xtreme Signal but find it performs just as well without it if you have 1 TV . Can't see paying more than double the price for the Televes and fewer stations unless you need the amp that does come with it. No substitute for a long boom. The Televes did nothing to pick up the one VHF station I wanted at 69 miles. I need a separate VHF antenna. I guess it all comes down to what works best in an area. Sometimes cheaper is better, but the Televes is not a bad buy considering the pre-amp is included (and you do need it with that antennas shorter boom). I would make sure it is returnable if needed.
@AntennaMan3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Thanks for your report. I will have to retest the HDB91X at my new location to see if this is the case.
@TelevesUSA3 жыл бұрын
Based on the environment description (no line of sight, unstable channels) this seems like a multipath issue. The 91XG style antennas are much longer which helps make them slightly more directional than the DAT LR, which may be of benefit in this particular situation. There's no hard and fast rule here, there will be cases where the extra directivity will be of benefit and others where the slightly larger spread will be of benefit. As far as gain is concerned the two antennas are neck and neck.

I figured I'd go to your website for answers, contact info and an email address...but apparently that is for sponsors only. Not sure why this has to be difficult to ask a simple question about a paid service and not the "antennas" themselves. If I missed something, please lmk, if not, maybe something needs to be fixed.

Hi, thanks for the great information! With the loss of Locast, I'm now expanding my OTA antenna to feed my HDHomeRun for the channels I used to get on Locast. Well, long story short - here in the DC Metro area, I can pick up the UHF channels on a rusty tin can, it seems. But, to pick up 7 and 9 in DC, or 11 in Baltimore - forget it. (Those are the actual RF channels). In a nutshell, I can't receive the VHF channels for anything due to location and living in a condo (rooftop antenna is not possible). Have you ever reviewed the ClearStream 5 VHF which appears to be a directional VHF antenna? What I need is a great high-gain VHF. I can (and do) use a small Yagi or loop for the UHFs. Can you do a direct comparison between the Televes Ellipse series with the DAT BOSS series of antennas? Due they use the same filtering and pre-amp and only differ on physical build or different filtering/pre-amp beyond the different physical build? I've gone to the company website and they seem to obfuscate the differences. It would be nice to see a head-to-head comparison using measuring equipment with objective data. My challenging reception situation. 3 VHF-Hi primary ch., miles: ... NW 39, 34< ... >16 SE 2 UHF primary channels ... NW 34, 30< … > + Heavy, windy woods! Tyler did a custom antenna recommendation for me of this Televes DAT BOSS LR Mix for outdoor installation. I want to wait until my roof gets replaced in the Spring (damage from 100+ mph winds). Last fall I started to experiment with indoor antennas to "get by" until Spring. I tried the Clearstream 2Max plus Televes Bexia 8½x11 and Ellipse (more compact version of the DAT BOSS) for indoor mounting. The rear reflectors on the Ellipse (like DAT BOSS) killed my 16 mile PBS VHF-Hi reception from the rear. The 2Max with optional refector is doing an amazing (not quite perfect) job indoors in a top story closet; almost good enough as is (in summer though, I'll have windy leaves to contend with, I'll have to see). My concern is that the DAT BOSS LR Mix with it's reflector will also kill my PBS VHF-Hi reception from the rear. Tyler or other viewers … thoughts? Results: AntennaWeb.org photos.app.goo.gl/X93r9CYBAuwKvTfT7
@TelevesUSA3 жыл бұрын
The Ellipse and DAT antennas have a fairly high F/B ratio. DAT: >12dB (High VHF), >25dB (UHF) / Ellipse: >20dB. The High VHF reflectors on both the DAT and Ellipse will greatly hinder any reception for the rear, but help greatly with the main aim gain (this is why these antennas perform much better in VHF as compared to other products that only have a VHF dipole add-on for VHF). You may want to experiment removing the rear VHF reflectors (the wider ones) to help receiving that channel from the back, and see if the forward gain is still enough to receive your front facing channels. Another option is to use two antennas and combine them using an Avant X unit.

Truth and Quality , Practical and Useful Information. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cascading amplifiers is like asking for reception problems.
