Thank you for the amazing video doc! Also Dr. Ben Thompson, I see that you completed your training at UCSF Medical Center, one of the best medical programs in the state of California,. My question for you is, during your training and years of practice did you ever come across other health professionals (PA, NP, MD, PT, OT, etc.) who completed their training with tinnitus or who are currently practicing? I want to pursue a career in the health professionals but with my tinnitus I have so many doubts. If you could share any success stories about professionals with tinnitus that would be very much appreciated. Thank you for all of your hard work.

It gets better.... the human brain, if used correctly, will make the tinnitus bearable even completely unnoticeable... it's probably not going to go away... but one day you will realize you've stopped noticing it. Stop looking for cures that's the first step.

My question is: Why doesn’t insurance cover this procedure if it is so life changing? Or here’s another one: Why is it priced so high that the people that really need it can’t afford it because insurance doesn’t cover it? I hear the same story with all the things senior citizens need: Eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, pain relief for arthritis, Medicare ‘scams’, etc…..why?

It is very unfortunate that insurance doesn't cover tinnitus therapy. It is our job as Audiologists to lobby and explain why this should be a covered medical expense. We have different pricing options depending on what is needed. I’m seeing an audiologist that is founded under a neurosurgeon. My primary Dr has no answers. I have hearing loss from working 30 years in dentistry. I will be receiving hearing aides that are to reduce the symptoms of tinnitus. Basically it is the brain not receiving the stimulation it needs from your hearing. So it letting you know something has changed. The idea is that the audiology specialist is critically important in choosing the right hearing device for each individual and make the proper adjustments. It has to be customized. Hearing loss leads to cognitive decline… so it’s important to treat/control your hearing loss.

Hello! i have mild hearing loss in both ears.. in the low and middle frequencies. In the highs, from 10KHz to 16KHz, there is a gradual drop of db, which reaches 16KHz up to -50db.. In the remaining frequencies (low + mid), I have a loss of 10-15db at most. Not something important that is for the 18 years professional musician. Do you think I could reduce the sound of the tinnitus if I wear hearing aids? I am sure that the tinnitus in my left ear is due to exposure to high voltages. I have had tinnitus for almost 7 months and I notice that as I continue to work at live music nights, it only increases! Every 1-2 months, it goes up 1 level for sure and stays there. I am now thinking of quitting this job that I love so much. Could you give me some tips so that I can be a little calmer with this situation? What helps and what doesn't? I hope you are always well!

@treblehealth
@treblehealth 3 ай бұрын
Yes! With a combination of sound therapy and personalized coaching, you can reduce the negative reactions and emotions caused by the troublesome sounds. This can be achieved in two ways: 1. A person can be slowly desensitized to the bothersome sounds by slowly reintroducing the trigger sounds into their daily life. 2. A person can be given strategies to restructure the negative thoughts and emotions that are triggered by troublesome sounds. Other treatment options include CBT, TRT and mindfulness practices. @@IfIcouldmeltyourheart Somatic tinnitus just means that you can modulate (increase or decrease) your tinnitus by doing things such as moving your jaw, moving your neck or pressing on different parts of your face. Most (or possibly all) types of subjective tinnitus can be somatic and this includes noise-induced tinnitus. In the clinical trials, they used people that can modulate their tinnitus because it shows a clear connection between the somatosensory and auditory systems, but that connection exists for everyone, even for those that do not have tinnitus. The connection is just sometimes stronger in those with tinnitus.

The linear device, shocks your brain and hopes that you can get used to the sound or ignore it. Dr. shore found out that a combination of precisely timed electrical, stimulus and auditory stimulus directed at the first step of the auditory pathway (dorsal cochlear nucleus) resets these neurons to a more homeostatic potential. It calms them down, thus lowering the volume. It’s totally different scientific approach
