i started listening to tool after ænima had already come out, somewhere around ‘97 or ‘98. i still remember the excitement and anxiety of getting my first NEW tool cd in 2001 and then having that same feeling in 2006. then i had the pleasure of seeing them live in ‘07 and again in ‘09. here i am at 38 yrs old with 2 kids (1 about to start freaking high school in 3 weeks) and i have that same excitement i did all those years ago. there aren’t too many bands out there that can do that.

I remember when I got undertow back when I was 20. I was at the local record store and the owner told me to check it out, been my favorite band ever since. With the internet now it makes it easier to stay updated.

I’m a bit younger (born 1990) but started listening to them heavily by 2003, got my first chance to see them live in 2005 (was also my very first concert), and was lucky enough to catch 10,000 Days on release day. Now going on 15+ years later and still listening to them daily, have seen them live 9 times across the country (was recently at the Birmingham show where album release date was first announced), and i can definitely say there’s no other musicians I’ve ever looked forward to new material from anywhere close to as much. Their music is a blessing, and the excitement to hear the new album in its entirety is off the charts!

August 30th can not come any faster! I've been awaiting this for so long. 10,000 Days came out a week before I graduated college, and 4 months before my mom died from cancer. I doubt any other song they make will evoke the nastalgic feeling that Wings For Marie does for me. My mother didn't spend 10,000 days in the fire, but battled til the end. She was supposed to die before I even graduated, but she lived 10 months longer than the Docs said, and was there at graduation, and used up her remaining life to see me graduate. She was never out of bed after that day. "To be son to angel, what have I done to be worthy?"

Well your right, in the early 90's.. people today haven't a clue how transitioning from 80's music to listening to Tool had made such a revolutionary change in what music was and is, which is by far better and way different then any music that has come out. I'm a huge Maynard fan, but Tool is his best work no doubt. He writes real music, it's Art, not this other crap. His music, words and everything surrounding it has real meaning; and well, it's not just music to me, it's been a TOOL. Literally!

@@christhomas2060 I think that's part of growth. Angry songs are great when you are angry, and usually you are always angry when you're young. When you grow up and you start understanding what's your place in the world, things can be seen from a different way. I also think 10,000 Days arrangements are far more original and intricated while also being beautiful than their early stuff, same thing for Lateralus. I would still expect an angry song though, since the riff that Nergal shared last year sounded pretty heavy. Like, old school Tool heavy. So, let's just wait and see.

When I heard the two new tracks in their recent (completeness?) I could hear lots of previous tool sounds drawn practically from all their albums at different moments. About that time I'm reminded every release throughout the years always has that. They've always sounded like tool and still do. Evolution is fluid as it should be and after over a decade of anticipation I am not disappointed in any way and after jamming on the latest two I'm getting really jazzed for the full LP. It's tool. This seems so obvious

With every album, they were less and less angry. Just listen to their evolution. It's night and day from 1991 to 2006 and yes, we're 13 years removed from their most mellow album, so I don't expect anger. I do hope for great quality compositions that take me on a journey, like only they can do.
