The summer heat is a real challenge. On really bad days, I sit with reusable ice packs from the freezer, the type you might use for cold therapy for muscle soreness. It really helps. I also open the windows and doors early in the morning to get as much cool air as possible, and close them before the heat starts rising. It helps a lot. Sometimes I take shelter at a cooler place like the library for the day, which doesn't cost a dime, but gives me a break! Stay cool as best you can on these hot summer days, and thanks for your video!

Put your TJ mini sheet cakes in the fridge! They taste so much better cold! You can even freeze them and then they don't take long to defrost, even in the fridge.

Try using those cooling towels, to wrap around your neck. They are inexpensive. Amazon also has a wrist and thumb wrap, that you put in the freezer, before you wear it. Putting your wrists in cold water, cools your blood. You can also try freezer gel wraps, for really hot days.

Katie! I love the energy you bring to your videos. Whenever I see the uploads (for Aldi, Costco, or TJ's), I always make sure to put it in my queue to watch during my down time! And as for celery ice cream? There's not an EXACT ice cream with that flavor, but Van Leeuwen released a ranch-flavored ice cream about a year ago. I wonder if that would go with celery... To keep cool: suck on ice cubes! It lowers your internal temperature down and is a cheap way to stay comfortable in the southern CA heat. Stay safe! Another fun video. My apartment faces west so I get the late afternoon sun. I keep the shades down (I get lots of light) most of the time and when it's hot, I run the ceiling fan in the dining room, where I spend most of my day. Have had to run it for several days in a row, so don't know what my electric bill will look like. Also keep a small hand fan nearby. I go for watermelon chunks and sparkling water to cool down. Tim, love that shirt!

I live in NYC with extremely hot summers. I pack up my kids and go to stay with my Mom in Seattle for the summer to keep cool. We literally leave the day after school gets out. Of course there's always that one week in the summer when it's not cooler than home, but in general the temperature is much more pleasing. I know AC is expensive but I would literally give up all the other luxuries before I give my AC. I do not like to be hot! I've been drinking the guava agua de kefir for a few years and it's my absolute favorite. I prefer it even to kombucha which I also love.

it has been brutally disgusting hot in Baltimore this summer. I have been staying cool by eating SO MUCH watermelon. It is my favorite!! Can’t get enough fruit at the moment. I love Cherry Plums too! They are called cherry plums because of their size, they are small cherry sized!

Our AC was broken for the past 3 weeks during a usually hot period in our area where the highs were hitting 95 and high humidity/dewpoint. Just got new heat pump and furnace installed this Thursday (took 2 weeks to get 2 estimates, and 1 week for the new system to arrive and get installed). We bought 3 window fans from Target which helped but on the worst days I put an ice pack wrapped in a thin dishtowel and put in on back of my neck. Also splashed some water on arms, face, chest which helps for maybe 5-10 minutes for a “break” especially right at bedtime.

Happy Saturday Katie and Tim! Carrot cake looks delicious. Thank you for coming on here and oh I how I empathize with the no ac. I just got my electric bill and it said it's doubled in the kilowatts used. In other words my electric bill was 100.00 more than normal for this time. We are on a limited budget. It was expensive and I expect higher next month. Looking forward to fall. Have a good rest of your weekend. 🙂

To stay cool in the summer, I like to drink iced tea. I lived in the southern part of the U.S. for over twenty years, where it’s quite hot and humid, and that was my drink of choice. I tend to like mine sweet, sometimes with peach or raspberry flavor or syrup added. Another good drink is an Arnold Palmer, which is iced tea with lemonade.

Living in Hawai'i, the temperature never get too hot and we go to the beach and learned to surf when I was 7 years old and also teach my kids to and I first female lifeguard to work for city of Honolulu and many followed me but youngest baby girl was a water baby but she the head lifeguard at the pool and other kids just love to go for surf and we shaved ice to stay cool

Those coated peanuts are what we used to buy at the Japanese Tea Gardens in SanFrancisco when I was little. The packaging was predominately in Japanese but had the description “Japanese Peanuts” in English. I love them but they are not always easy to find. Glad that Trader Joe’s is carrying them. You mentioned my primary stay cool tricks, but as someone prone to nosebleeds in the heat, I like those cooling towels. Very effective at keeping your neck cool which keeps the blood heading toward your brain cool.

So the peanuts are not actually a peanut. It’s like a ball that’s hallow on the inside. Very crunchy and has a lot of umami flavor.

I live in South East Florida. The beach is about a mile away. We like to pack a cooler, grab the umbrella and chairs and head to the beach. No matter how hot and humid it is, there is usually a nice breeze coming off the ocean.

We close our shades by 9 am each day. That helps cut down on heat gain. Because nights are cooler, we open windows and let the cool air in. I spend a lot of time in the basement during the hotter times of the day. Of course, cool beverages of choice 😂 are helpful. I will try the Yuzu Miso. Sounds delish!❤

I bought a bag of the crispy jalapeños and put them on my salad tonight, I loved them The carrot cake was a definite must on my list. It finally cooled down today from 117 to 107. Of course I’m drinking plenty of water but my favorite thing is to eat frozen mangoes. Try to stay cool. 😊

I live in Arizona, Northwest of Phoenix, where the summer temperatures are in the 110-120 degrees level! So, I basically hibernate in the house in the AC. I do have a pool and enjoy that. It really cools me off and I get some exercise as well. I keep my AC at 79 degrees so it's really not that much of a burden on my AC units. Compared to the outside temp, it's really comfortable. I go out to stores and visit with friends so that cools me off, too. I just bear it and wait until October rolls around so I can turn off the AC and open the windows!

I live in Oregon we just got over 8 days of 100-105 degree weather! That was tough. We don't have AC so by about the 4th of 5th day, it was hard to cool down my house at night. I have this thing, I think it's called a cooling scarf. You just wet it and wear it around your neck, that helps. Also you might think of getting your dogs cooling mats. You add cold water to them so they can lay on them and keep cool.

I finally got to Trader Joe’s today, which is like a 50 minute ride from where I live. I grew up eating German and Hungarian hot dogs and they always have pork in them! Yum. I only get them from a butcher or at a deli counter for Hummuls. The Kayem hots look like the Zweigle's I grew up on (and still sometimes get). If you're used to eating all beef hots, a beef & pork dog can be bland, by comparison. Natural casing hot dogs deserve to be grilled to bring out the flavor. Preferably charcoal, but gas grill is fine.

Katie - where do you get your avocados? I never see them in your TJ's haul. Over the last couple of years I've noticed that the quality of avocados has been hit or miss. Doesn't matter if they are organic or not, or if I get them at Costco, TJ's or Sporuts.

About 10 years ago Trader Joe's sold a frozen Carrot Cake that I'm afraid wasn't very good either. The best supermarket carrot for me was Oregon Farms Frozen Carrot Cake- it was so tasty and the frosting was not overly sweet. Does anyone remember that brand?

I looked it up, and as far as I can tell, "cryo" is an adjective describing a concentrated hop. It's not specific to mosaic hops. (And btw, beers with mosaic hops are my favorites. I just love the flavor!) I live in the city, so if I need a quick cool down, I'll just wet my hair if I don't want to take a full shower. I also use a face or body mist and stand in front of the fan!

Put a wet towel around your neck, take it off and air it out periodically. When you go to bed take a half frozen bottle of water and keep it on your neck or chest. You can roll it in a wash cloth if it’s TOO cold.

You need to leave your house and come down to the beach! I’m in Huntington about a mile up from the ocean and it’s wonderful almost chilly. We don’t have air-conditioning in our house and we really don’t need it. Just lots of ceiling fans. 27:56
