The clown car fish trick can be heavily simplified with a on-off block setup. If spawn-rules work the same, an inaccessible two state block can automate the “either left or right” result (I.e. the fish)

Just FYI. It's possible to grab Mario with the stylus and move him around during gameplay. It's an easy way to see what's happening in a level because it bypasses all barriers.

The first level is an example of a pavlovian Carl. The Carl get trained that the fish appears in area A. Then level maker IQ 1000 puts fish in area B because the Carl believes that the fish will appear in area A.

Hey, it’s the creator of Think Outside the Carl Box, Bedcliff, here. I know no one will believe me but its worth a shot. The one thing I will say is that I never expected that the fish would get that big of a reaction. I thought the launcher being launched right at the end would make the player flip out. Either way, I’m happy with how it turned out. I will be getting Mario Maker 2 and I hope to make levels better than my first one. Thanks to everyone for all of the support!

I have watched all of Carl's videos of him playing trolls for both SMM1 and SMM2, and your fish troll is hands-down my favorite troll in any troll level. Not only because of Carl's reaction, but also because it really was just such a brilliant set up with how well it trains the player to be initially annoyed with the fish killing you because you have CP1 anyway so it's just this annoyance that you have to avoid, but then when it comes time for the player to WANT the fish to kill them after getting CP2, then the fish falls on the other side. Bravo!
