Every person that's into watches, at some point in their journey, thought that a Sub was the one watch you had to have. Like the Speedy, it's an icon. Everyone I know with an interest in watches has a Sub. And that fact alone makes me not want one. So, even if money were not an obstacle, I'd take the Tudor. In fact, I did. I'm wearing a BB58 right now.

I think it is a generational thing. Rolex is always marketed as something you own when you reach success. Tudor is marketed for the guy is on the road to success. Just that simple.
@fark693 ай бұрын
Just for me personally, I think Tudor has a hard sale to make psychologically because they have the association as a cheaper Rolex alternative. When you're spending thousands of dollars on a watch, you want to show it off and be able to tell people something cool about it. Nomos have a cool movement you can show on the back. Longines have cool, unique designs. Breitling has sporty, racy, fun designs. Oris has unique complications. GS has outstanding dials. Tudor has Rolex-esque designs, and it's already known as a cheaper Rolex. Hard to get people excited about. And I know you should buy a watch for yourself. But the psychology of buying a watch at the store right there takes into account what other people will think.

I have the latest Sub no-date and the Pelagos 39; both are valid within a collection and I actually switched to the rubber strap on the 39, as it looks/wears even better! The machining of the Ti bracelet is actually quite sharp in places, particularly on the clasp, which was a bit of a detractor for me before the change to the rubber. Also, the hands on the 39 do not hold the same lume level as the rest of the watch, which is also a detractor (not sure if this is fixed in the current batches). Overall, I wear the 39 when I need something more sporty and casual/light on the wrist.

I have both (70+ collection acquired over 25 years), and I would recommend for you to get the Tudor. You will have much more mileage and memories with it until you start practicing. You can wear it as a student, resident, and fellow without drawing negative attention. Each of those steps requires you to get good references to get the best position at the next level. You can wear the Tudor and no ones really care. The Rolex will rarely see wrist time unless you want jealousy to detract your career. I’m a watch guy so I would not judge you, but vast majority of people will not like their subordinate wearing a Rolex, because Rolex has become that thing. Trust me on this, I have been attending, PD, and now managing 250 doctors and 180 APPs. Good video and analysis, but be careful.

I own both of these, with the Rolex 16610 being my daily wearer for 8 years. It feels more “precious” in comparison, with a neo-vintage charm but an inescapable brand cachet. On the other hand, the Pelagos 39 feels like a tough, understated and dependable companion without the flash that you can bring anywhere and do anything (save for the dressiest of occasions) due to its modern features and its titanium case. It now occupies 75% of my wrist time for these reasons. Which you choose depends on what you prefer. Thanks for the video, Abdullah.

The black bay 41 monochrome is closer to the Rolex submariner. The only true difference besides the METAS movement is the glass. Rolex sits deeper and slightly thicker than the Tudor and that gives it the 1000ft vs 600ft. I got this information from an authorized Rolex watchmaker. He said buy the Tudor and save the money.

I think they both have their place. I dip in and out of client meetings (government / luxury brands) over to warehouses and job sites. I don't want to have to feel too conscious of my watch being too cheap looking or too expensive looking. My Tudor Blackbay, Grand Seiko and Longines Spirit sit in this in between place where I can be flexible in that sense. I then have cheaper watches for travel and then slightly flashier watches for the weekends or occasions etc. I think it's okay to enjoy different tiers of the "luxury market" if you will, so if you own a Rolex, it doesn't mean there's no place for a Tudor

Even an amateur can see and feel it. Do you really think Rolex, who own Tudor, would allow their sister company to make watches that were equal to Rolex? It wouldn't make any sense. Tudor are great watches and I love them, but a modern Sub is in a different class to Black Bay or Pelagos. However, being honest, the Tudor quality, especially the bracelet, was impressive. My Rolex is my daily watch, and continues to do the job it did 20 years ago. I can understand why people who want a robust watch go Tudor. So for me, id still go Sub, but its a pure emotional decision. If you bought the Tudor, and wear it for the next 20 years, I'm sure a better technical watch would not persuade you to switch. And that's because better specs are just marketing by and large. My 20 year old sub keeps greet time, is waterproof and looks great. Its like looking at an Iphone12maxpro versus iphone16pro max. Better specs, but by and large both do the same.
