The VPI is a solid choice. I've listened to mine for almost 25 years (HW 19, Aries Black Knight Platter, SME 309 tonearm). It will support most any high end cartridge you can mount on it. Looks like you got one of the very musical wood bodied Grados. Brooklyn and New Jersey represent. Happy listening.
@itsjim28752 жыл бұрын
Certainly agree with you. I had an HW-19 MK III with SME 309 combo for over 30 years and it worked flawlessly the whole time. Thinking I was old and probably done with hifi, I gave it to my nephew a few months ago. Returned home to realize that I still had a few hundred LPs and nothing to play them on, so am building another (very modest) system with a VPI Scout front end.

The VPI Scouts 1.0 and 1.1 are incredibly musical decks, and a great bargain at their used price. I have a Prime, and frankly I think I've given up some of the PRAT of my old Scout for a lot more money. I would look for a used SDS speed control for an immediate and obvious improvement, the notes 'really lock in'. Also, look for a used JMW 9 arm to mount another cart on to make cart swapping quick and easy. I'd get a center weight too. Nice choice! BTW, the male part of the bearing ("pointy thing") is made of stainless steel, is insanely sharp (don't touch) and is replaceable.

Curious how he compares it to the Rocsan. I have a Radius 5 upgraded to 7. Lived with it for quite a while. Happy, but curious. Mine has a Nima unipivot tonearm.
@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL3 жыл бұрын
I’ll see if Jeffrey Lee will respond 🤓
@JLeeeP3 жыл бұрын
I've never heard a 7 so can't speak directly to that, but I'd say that the main difference is that I get noticeably more information out of the records via the Scout. Not tremendously more, but noticeable. If for some reason all of my turntables disappeared or broke except for my Radius 5, I'd be fine.
@ttownscott3 жыл бұрын
@@JLeeeP Thanks loads. Enjoy that VPI and the music. The 7 is just the 5 with a new improved motor.

Congrats Jeffery Lee on your Scout 1.1. I’ve owned one for four years. Enjoy the Unipivot arm and the fun swapping carts. It takes patience. I will never sell mine as it looks wonderful. I bought the metal alignment jig and the VPI aluminum screw clamp.

Congrats to Gary Oldman and the new Turntable 🤔🤔🤔 I never knew that about the VPI tone arms?? Not sure with my coffee shaking hands I could navigate my album collection! My question is...how is that Grado cartridge? Have had 3 straight Nagaoka MP-110 cartridges and have been very very happy with....but thinking on my next to try something new.....have heard mixed reviews with Grado and the infamous "hum"? Anyways...congrats on the sweet TT👍
@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL3 жыл бұрын
Never had any hum issues over here, I have grado carts on both my tables. I love them . Cheers!
@JLeeeP3 жыл бұрын
Most VPI turntables have normal tonearms so you have options. The unipivot is a wild child for sure. I'm a big fan of wood body Grados. They aren't super cheap but they make me happy. Probably the best bang for the buck model is the Sonata. I've used Grados on a lot of turntables and never had hum, but I know that some people do have that issue. I just don't think it's common.

I just bought a new turntable. It’s a Well Tempered Classic. The tonearm is suspended by fishing line into this thick gelatinous goo. So far so good. It’s a definite upgrade from the old Lenco I was using.

Does yours have a golf ball at the pivot? I think it's Well Tempered that used to do that.

Thanks for the video Bob. A question to Jeffery Lee, being the cartridge/stylus guy. best cartridge/stylus upgrade for a Audio-Technica LP-120? Other than getting something else than a AT120.😁
@JLeeeP3 жыл бұрын
The easiest thing to do is to upgrade the stylus on the AR95 cart that comes with the 120. They're interchangeable. The Microlinear stylus is the one that gets all of the raves, but I haven't heard it. It's $150 and plugs right in to the AT95 line of cartridges.
