I use this saw with a 12 inch pruning blade with carbide tips to cut down trees up to 9" diameter. Use it just like a chain saw though it is of course slower. With the lighter battery packs it is easy to carry up into trees to cut off branches. I tie a rope to my ladder so I can drop down the saw for safety before climbing down. I always use the safety switch which is a great feature.

I bring my ryobi reciprocating saw to work. My boss borrows it a lot. He is hard to impress, but the ryobi saw impressed him. We use it to cut tree roots and metal stuff.

8:32 Very impressive !!! I ordered one of these puppies tonight and can't wait until it gets to me so I can put it to work. I have a virtual stack of widow maker tree branches as well as still attached rotten branches that I broke loose out of an old Oak tree using a large washer and 50 pound test fishing line that need to be cut up for campfire wood. Disclaimer: While the use of a large washer and 50 pound test line for removing dead limbs is a neat Jerry Rig, it can also be a dangerous endeavor. First and foremost, don't EVER !!! stand directly under a limb that you're trying to bring down. Secondly ... Never EVER !!! use the technique if their are power lines around the area where you're working. If there are any suspended lines around where you're working and you're not sure whether they are power lines are not ?? Forget it. It's not worth the risk because things might end in a very bad way.

I just bought this saw. The build quality is very good. It's more heavy duty than the first Ryobi Reciprocating saw I bought in 2003 (Dark Green) and I loved that saw. . Very good review and instead of reading the manual I just popped on youtube and got my knowledge here. Thanks.

I have the corded version and it works great, but your right about how the extension cord can be a pain. I want to get a combo kit with circular saw and recip. I think it would be Awesome to have camping. Cut firewood and kindling. Note on 1 of the other comments, if you have a limb near power lines call Utility company they will cut it back at no cost to you. Thanks again, Rodney

Nice review and finally a reciprocating saw from Ryobi that ain't a lime green weakling. The fantastic 4Ah batteries can rejuvenate most old blue Ryobi(s)into decent performers.

09:20 Sure, the Ryobi can get that job done, but I imagine the blade is quite tired by comparison, lol. Great video, very informative and helped me understand I should set my sights on the P516 instead of saving a few bucks for an old P514. I enjoyed watching this, please keep up the good material! :-)

Real good video Daniel. I have the 514 model and it works well. for heavy demo and cutting I use a corded dewalt recip saw but like the Ryobi for it's portability around the property and using it under a car for exhaust work is nice with no cord in the way.

I own this saw, but still only have the basic black compact lithium batteries that were shown as compatible at the end of the video. This is the one tool I own that those batteries just can’t get the job done - they actually overheat within 5 minutes, and won’t run the tool or anything else until cooled down. They won’t even charge/test properly on the charger after this tool’s run them. I’ll look into the larger batteries ASAP.

hey...another good video.....2 thumbs up to Ryobi....they have come a long way since their blue 18v cordless tools and especially making the lithium batteries...which gave new life to the several old blue models that i was close to throwing away....and i scored last christmas by getting those 4.0 batteries for $25 a piece

I almost bought the combo with drill kit that seems best value and has the older P514 model! Glad I seen this. I'll be going for the tool only P516, I have plenty of drills and batteries so makes more sense to spend less on the better tool only purchase. Plus its a good price now the brushless model is out.

I bought the 18 gauge brad nailer and while I haven't put it through a torture test, it worked great for the small projects that I have used in on so far. I also have the drill and impact driver which have worked fine. I think I am going to add this reciprocating saw to my line up. In the video, he just cut more wood then I will probably ever cut. He put the tool through some decent tests. Far more stress then I will likely every put one through. Good video.

...from someone who owns and uses a LOT of cordless tools every day...let me say I think my Ryobi tools are a great value for the money..generally durable, and the lithium ion batteries are good...BUT....the sawzall/reciprocating saw is the exception...I have owned 3 of the older blue ones, and am on my second green one(like this one)...the BIG problem with them is they literally shake the batteries so bad, it has cracked the post on all them, and the 2 side clips are NOT adequate to hold the batteries on a tool like this...it shakes and vibrates too much.. they get loose and wears the little side clips on the batteries, too...a sawzall needs a battery that slides on and snaps securely in place. I am ready to move on to another brand for my sawzall, not sure which brand yet, but I will be taking a close look at how the batteries are attached as a major criteria...along with toughness. I will be keeping my other Ryobi tools, but I am tired of the sawzall ruining all my batteries..:(... That said, I do use them a LOT, so this sawzall may be o.k. for someone who lets it sit on the shelf more than they use it.....

Whats your professional opinion on Ryobi One+ ? Im almost all in exclusive Ryobi cordless now. Not because of price actually. i bought a Ryobi cordless kit as a spare to keep with my crew on separate job sites - and because of the 70+ tools just happened to keep trying new ones. I extremely happy. I had the complete first generation of Hitachi Lithium cordless (pro line - hammer drills, impacts, saws, etc.. as well as Dewalt (nicad) both circa - 2004 - I had still been using them as they never gave up. I was sold on Hitachi, as they were cutting edge back then, but since then they have degraded in quality IMHO. However for me - the new Ryobi line is an upgrade in power / performance vs my 1st gen tools at a lower price point = win-win. Im a full time pro remodeling contractor by the way. Most of the time i dont need a cordless 1000ft/lb hammer drill and when i do I bring out my Bosch SDS or job equivalent pro tool. But for 99% of my work - the new Ryobi is more than adequate. If i was a union steelworker doing industrial high rise erection, or commercial electrician cutting/drilling/welding for a living I could see the need for the Milwaukee/Dewalt/Metabo etc.. But..those are the Pros-pros so to speak. In my opinion- Ryobi is contractor grade all the way - just not industrial/institutional grade. Ryobi gets the job done - period. And for most of those I know - ego - more than skill set - is why people buy the big brands.

You hit the nail on the head.....many people are brand obsessed & that does limit their options. Good to hear that you like the ONE+ lineup & that it is working out well. Funny thing.....they keep coming out with new tools that no one else has --- so I am not sure why so many consider them a homeowner brand only --- clearly they are innovating much faster than most of the competition.

It's name recognition. Everyone says "hey that's a good brand" I'm getting that good brand. Not Husky or whatever right next to it even though it's good enough and is 70% cheaper. Btw I buy the more expensive name brand stuff because that's just the way it is. I won't buy dewolter anymore because people say there stuff sucks and now I buy milkwalky because 1, it's supposed to be better somehow, 2, it's more expensive. That's just how it is.

I agree... think about it: One+ = 70+ tool platform - 4.0Ah Lithium batteries with fuel gauge! - 1800 ft.lb LED impact drivers - SDS hammer drills - Hybrid tools - outdoor power equipment - caulking guns - lighting - Drain Augers - Sanders- Buffers, etc etc.. and finally Belt Clips! Great stuff indeed. Im hoping for the comeback of the One+ shop-vac. Check eBay for the prices of old blue ones... People are paying a mint for those old used cordless shop vacs...

The P517 is similar, key differences of that one are an LED light, 132 cuts vs 123, orbital cutting option and brushless motor, so it would outlast this one but at a $50 CDN price bump. So glad he reviewed both and in the same way as well. Check out that video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHabq5yEnNGKpJY ;)

@practicalguy973 5 жыл бұрын
Not so sure brushless will outlast in the end. Brushless is a complex system than requires drivers and precise sensors and mosfets on a PCB that has many electronic parts to control the motor. The P516 is a much simpler DC motor and variable switch with protection. Id save the $50 and put it towards another battery.Right now at Home Depot you can get 2 4ah batteries for $88 CDN for cyber Monday sale which would be so much better for run time having those extra batteries versus spending on the brushless.
