Really doesn't matter how the setup looks... it's how well does it work for you. This is what I use for international travel, wedding videos, studio shoots, etc. It's been great (especially because of that massive battery)

I think you could definitely tighten up the whole system if you put a smallrig cage on there and put the mic on a cold shoe and mount the smallhd on a small ballhead or just fixed into another cold shoe into one of the 1/4-20 holes on the cage rather than that huge bracket putting the mic off to the side and the smallhd high in the air. It would help some.

Is the need to check focus with the A6500 really that important? ... let's say you set it to autofocus continuously, register your face, set it to track registered faces... that should be it, face in focus all the time ... or is it more of a framing issue, which could be dealt with by practising? ... or am I just being naive? :)

The Panasonic Lumix as you say is much better with the flip out screen. That seperate monitor makes it very heavy to hold for a long time. Have to go to the gym.

Panasonic and Sony have very good apps that allow your DSLR’s live view to be shown via local WiFi connection onto your smartphone’s screen. That’s got to be lighter than that monitor!

Justine, how has this setup been working a month into it? I've got the same rig and have a few pretty big issues: 1) No face tracking when the external monitor is tracking. 2) The dummy battery really doesn't work (only get a few min of life, SmallHD wasn't any help). 3) Focus pulsing issues when doing tripod shots.

Why don’t you use a Canon G7x Mark 2 with a microphone! I think it is in comparison with Canon 80D and many other dslr’s! It is compact in size and has an awesome Camera Quality. Overall a phenomenal Camera!

Fountain Pen Guy haha😂 Cause Canon is still back in 2009 and hasn't switched to 4K on their small point and shoot cameras like the one you mentioned. Her camera (A7 SII) costs $2400, +$300-400 for each lens. It's way way better in quality than the Canon one you mentioned. It's what all the KZbinrs that actually know about videography use.

for that sony users have the RX100 series but it's style not the same performance wise as an A6300/A6500/A7S2 because those more recent cameras have new color modes the earlier models don't have and also can change lenses and have a bigger sensor wich gives more blur and better low-light performance

Ryan Olivas ya of course Sony is better than Canon for some reasons, but their camera quality atleast for the camera which I mentioned and the 80Dis just phenomenal. Canon is canon, and they have hooked up the market like anything. Moreover for the setup which she is using, that looks odd and weird for blogging, whereas this compact setup is apt for vlogging and many vloggers also use them. I just think Canon is way better than any other brand in terms of photography or anything.

Get you a Canon powershot sx730 hs, good for vlogging & it can go up to 60fps 1080p. That’s what I bought myself for vlogging. Plus it has 40x zoom & you can flip it right up to see yourself while you vlog.

The Sony A9 works grreat and doesn't over heat and so far no record limit :), the GH5 does have a flippy scenes that works great.

Lol! We tried carrying something like this in public. It looked absolutely ridiculous! The difference was we also had a small recorder attached for the Ride micro because we were using the Sony A6000 which doesn't have a mic jack.

Nope that is the best choice! No camera right now on the market under $3000 MSRP beats the A7 Sii Period in quality for it's size. Canon is still back in 2008 with it's 1080p recording. 4k is where it's out. Plus the low light preformance is incredible on the Sony for such a small camera. But seriously you should upgrade to the Sony A9! I know you have the money

It looks amazing! My concern though is that if you use this setup when vlogging after a while your arm is going to be so tired from all the weight (it looks pretty heavy). Also, it’s not very discreet, how can I put it 😅 Again, it looks amazing though and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be extra useful when you travel!

But Justine darling. If you use the bracket you put on the hot shoe mount, you could then flip up the screen and see it right? Then you wouldn't need that heavy screen and mega heavy battery! P.s, I use the Canon M6 and the image is amazing, built in OIS and I use a bottom bracket on the tripod mount for my microphone so I can still use the flip up screen. It is sooooo funny that everyone is swapping to Sony nowadays, when last year I swapped to Canon and it has a much better image! :-)
