New vs Old Compared: Springfield XDm Elite vs XDm Competition

Today we compare two 9mm offerings from Springfield Armory: the XDm 5.25 Competition and the new XDm Elite 4.5 Tactical OSP! They are nearly identical in size, use the same caliber, and are a great match-up to do a comparison video. Hope you enjoy!

At 2:30, about the sight, just a dot of white nail polish to the front and rear sight may solve the problem. I painted my front iron sight and put 2 dots on my iron rear sight with white nail polish to all of my pistols.

Just bought the new XDM with threaded barrel. It is a great gun to shoot and I love it! I also have the EMP4 CCC and it is a sweet gun as well. Springfield has really grabbed this Sig girl! :)

As of 12/2020, Springfield has the 22-rd mags in stock and shipping is immediate (from their online store). Took 2-days to get the ones I ordered. They also have a special running right now on all mags, where you can get 20 & 22-round mags for $25 instead of the normal $34 MSRP.

Great video! One correction. You CAN add a red dot to the old 5.25 Competition model; I have a Trijicon RMR on mine; this is a fabulous gun for the range, church protection, and for me, even concealed carry. The gun is not designed for a red dot, per se, but the adjustable sight comes off with a screw and a pin, and Springer Precision makes an adapter plate to mount the Tricon on this gun. You need to put a glob of high temperature silicone rubber adhesive under the RMR to keep it stable; otherwise it will come loose after about 100 rds.

Thank you. There are a few companies that have made those "sight replacement mounts" for Glocks and a few other guns. I have not tried any of them.

@@HammerStriker Do you think Springfield will make the "Elite" in 10mm? Been ready to the 'pull the trigger' on the XDm 10mm threaded, though would wait, if knew the Elite version is in the works. The flat, smoother trigger, dual recoil spring, mag well, extended mag options would be nice & FDE or OD color. Don't like ambi slide lock though.. Never had a Springfield before, so not too familiar with what is out there for aftermarket upgrades. Mostly interested in flat, shorter, smoother, 4lb trigger & dual recoil springs in 18, 20 & 22lb. I know there are +4 mag extensions & mag wells for current 10mm. Thanks for any info you could provide!

I live in the unfree state of NJ so 10 rounds is all I can have. I don’t see where they have 10 round mags for the Elite, can the older XDM mags work, interchangeability?

I would really like to try the XDM Elite 5.25, but it does not offer a plate option... a miss in my opinion. I am considering the OSP Elite, but not my first choice. I also agree with you on the 4.25 elite sights... for me, at the minimum the front sight needs fiber optic or tritium dot. I would also prefer the back to have tritium...they could offer it from the factory as an option w/ uncharge.

i want the full size and the compact one for conceal carrying and the other one for home defense and going to the range to shoot and relax my mind but i was told to get just the compact one and buy the extra mag that will make ir 19 rounds. but i want to get both of them and call it a day.

I wonder how different the size of the grip hangs down side by side with the Competition with 19 round magazine vs the Elite with 22 round magazine. I can't find a video anywhere that lines them both side by side.

I'm interested in the Elite 20 and 22 round mags. in the regular XDm. Also if the Elite mag. well would fit on the regular XDm.

Will the slide from an old xdm fit on the Elite frame? Would the ambidextrous slide lock on the Elite be a problem?

Most likely it would not, there are changes to the Fire Control Group/Sear as well.

Thank you for the video comparison, I would be interested in hearing someone like yourself to just a complete apples to apples comparison with components construction on the XDMXTM elite versus the Glock and the Glock equivalent reason I say this is because I constantly and finding websites are KZbin channels where people are just block enthusiast in there and I just like you know I kind of don’t want to talk to people who are Springfield Armory, XD enthusiast, ricks DM enthusiast I can’t I can’t see there being that much of a difference between construction and quality and I know they all have a little problems little breakdowns, etc. anyway that would be interesting. Unfortunately the XDM Elite was a T&E gun (Loaner from Springfiled) which have since returned and do not have available. I picked up the 509 Tactical after sending the XDM back.

Do you know if you can order an unthreaded barrel for the OSP from the factory? I wish both came pre milled for red dot optics.

I have not yet seen them available as an accessory, though I think you can now buy the whole mag as an assembled unit.

I've an older model XDM FDE 9mm 19 round capacity . Does anyone know if the mags will fit into the newer XDM Elite 3.8 in barrel gun ?

The XDM mags are interchangeable between the other XDM models and will work. You would have to remove the magwell flare to use the X-tension grip sleeves, or just let the bare mag hang down.
