Small correction, the shade in the Necron set is Agrax Earthshade Gloss, not the regular Agrax Earthshade. This a better colour for getting a nice shiney metallic look.

Very informative, Thank you Do you think you can make another "Paint-A-Long" videos with these kits? Am using your previous videos of "Stormcast" and "Intercessor" kits to learn, and am planning buy the sets to lear about necrons and get some new marines to experiment. Thank you, very informative. Not too much into GW stuff since their Indomitus, dare I say, trollish moves. I was expecting Contrast paints since they are their official beginner's paints. Not feasible because a spray primer is necessary?

Thanks 😁 They technically don't supply any primer in the kits and Wraithbone/Grey Seer are available as base paints so I suspect that isn't the reason. I personally think it is a bit of walking back of the whole Contrast is super easy for beginners and will replace all your paints line they had when they initially came out. Contrast paints I personally find harder to control then regular paints since they very flowy and are less forgiving to mistakes, since the 'fix' often involves reading an area. Where they really excel is when you have a big blob of horde that you just want to get through so you can play your army. For a beginner doing just a couple of models with undeveloped brush control I think Contrast would be a mistake and GW is acknowledging that. Or they make too much Abaddon Black and they need to move it 😅

I am so sorry, RIP your wallet 😂 I personally prefer the newer set without the Sargent. The paint selection is a little better and I prefer the models. Specifically the poses are little more dynamic and the raised areas for the symbols makes painting them easier. I don't play 40k so I cannot really speak to which is a better selection from an army building perspective.

Would you recommend this set for someone setting his first steps into minipainting? I'm mainly interested into the painting aspect, not so much playing the game. I've hand painted a few gundams before but not this small scale.

I personally would and here's why: they are fairly cheap in comparison to start collecting sets which tend to be about £30 more. Also it helps when you don't have loads to paint as if you get burnt out, it isn't fun. They have enough paints to get a good finish but so many it's overwhelming. Having painted any model is a huge advantage. However this kit while good for a building and painting introduction, will not be very feasible if you with to play in future. So all in all, I would give these a shot.

I agree with that they are good entry point to 40k if you are looking at dabbling with their models. My first additional comment would be, they are good if you are interested in sci-fi, if you are more interested in something fantasy orientated one of the Age of Sigmar sets, Stormcast & Nighthaunts, might be a better fit. I have review and some videos on those kits. My other comment is, they are good if you like the Games Workshop/Citadel aesthetic, which tends to be more saturated colours and with a slight overexaggeration of features. If you are looking for something more subtle in design and colours, something like Reaper Miniatures might be another place to look. I have a review of their Learn To Paint kits, and I have painted some of their minis for the channel. Despite what my video uploads look like, I actually probably use more Reaper models and paint then I do GW stuff in real life. It is just lots of my personal painting doesn't make for interesting videos.

They're all in the standard size small bottles so for the Base and Layer paints that's the same size that you would get in the store. For the Shades and Technical paints that's smaller than you normally would get in the store.

Came here from your Getting Started with Warhammer magazine review. In that, you mentioned that the provided models were smaller than the retail ones. Is that also the case with these ones?

No, it was only the models in the magazine. The magazine are on round sprues, all of the square sprue models, like these boxes, appear to be the regular size.

II got a dudd starter brush as well, GWs customer service is really shit about that stuff you know the brush must have gotten dull during handling shipping or production, yet they dont offer replacements, you have to go to your FLGS or the place you bought them and they have to replace the item out of their budget. GW claims there is an official return programm and they will reimburce the vendor, but I have heard from several vendors that GW has such a strict policy that they often end up doing the replacements out of their pockets, despite the fact GW did fucke up not them. GREAT company....

The best thing I can say about the starter brush is that I don't feel about using them to apply glue and oil washes.

Honestly, i prefer Leadbelcher over Runefang Steel for Necrons. Those robot bodies are 60 million years old, they shouldn't look that bright anymore. And the brass look is just...ugh..

My head canon explaining the brighter aesthetic is that the Silent King spent a tone of time out in the void polishing up his warriors and generally making things in his army over the top impressive, because he is actually deeply insecure, and wants to make a good impression when he comes back to the galaxy. Kinda like someone cleaning up and getting a new haircut for their high school reunion.
