Thank you for putting this video up and being so careful to explain everything in detail! You are AWESOME!

I work with several inkjet cartridges including all of these epson cartridges. I tested this method and it does work...mostly. When you break the "one way valve" that built into the nozzle of this cartridge you can refill through the nozzle. The first problem with this method is when you fill until you see ink come out of the vent you are saturating the vent filter with ink. This filter is designed to allow air to pass through but not liquid. When it is saturated with liquid it does not allow air through as easily. So... when you fill this way you put ink into the filter and block it so your cartridge will (after printing for about 10 to 20 pages) develop a vacuum inside and not release any ink. You might not experience this if you only print one or 2 pages at a time. This will allow he vacuum to equalize and you might be fine. Also, filling this way, you are unable to eliminate all of the air from the cartridge so you will have problems when the "ink sensor" detects a bubble. The printer will read that bubble as "the cartridge is out of ink" You might solve this by banging the cartridge on a table to move the bubble off of the sensor but it will probably return soon. If you are able to reset the chip, the ink level will not be accurate because you were unable to remove all of the air from the cartridge. All in all, this method does work. Just be aware you might starve your print-head and need to constantly remove the cartridge to bang it on the table. Good Luck.
@cheo194910 жыл бұрын
That why you must first remove ALL the ink that is left in the cart before cracking the diaphragm. The you have to make absolutely sure there is NO air in the syringe loaded with new ink. The you must absolutely know what the factory volume is. You weigh a 100% empty cart against a factory brand new one and then only load that amount. Now you tap as you suggested, the cart so that you allow any air to be detached from the internal maze of ink space. I agree 100% with you about accidentally wetting the vent filter. That is a NO NO. If the amount of ink is correct, you will not wet the vent. I will often inject a bit less ink and pull the cart out at about 20% level anyway so the wetness sensor is not tripped. It is not a perfect method but it does allow you to do what many have said was impossible to do. If it doesn't not work for you then the only other option is refillable carts of which there are BAD and GREAT ones. It can be a total crap shoot unless you know the company and they have a great reputation. And many do. I would stay away from EBAY and simply pay a bit more for the assurance of getting a good product.
@jamesstoner839010 жыл бұрын
Jose Rodriguez Even if the ink volume injected is exactly the same as the original amount, due to the maze of chambers and where the inlet/outlet is in each of those chambers it is impossible to fill using this method without wetting the filter. (unless you can inject the ink into the nozzle under vacuum) As you fill the cartridge gravity takes the ink to the bottom (top inverted) of each chamber that traps air inside each chamber and it will not ever leave. It might work if you filled it right side up after you break the seal but I think the results will be the same.
@cheo194910 жыл бұрын
You are supposed to fill right side up. I may not have shown that as correctly in the video but the RJETTEK jig video does show that!

Hi Jose, I practised a bit more on two more oem carts and found that, as you say, you need to pressurise carefully, and work the pressure on and off. Eventually it pops. It helps to adjust the syringe so that there is only a bit of travel left at high pressure. I noticed that after successful popping, you can see the two filling port covers flexing and the rectangular cavity behind the label flexes as you blow air in and out - and there is no leaks of ink anywhere! With the R1800 carts, the vent hole has a valve in it which you need to push in while filling with ink. My first re-filled oem cart is working fine. Many thanks.
@cheo19496 жыл бұрын
Like I said it is is a very iffy process than may or may not work even 50% of the time. The reason I made the video initially is because people begged me to do it and I really did not want to as it was not at least 90% reliable.

I bought some refills from bch and watched some of their refill videos. According to bch, the chip on the cart does NOT measure the ink level but the number of prints. As you say in this video, the chip isn't accurate. Thanks for these excellent videos Jose! I love how you like to help people avoid being screwed mercilessly by the scum charging $60 USD for 20 ml of ink. I doubt I will use this method and prefer to use bch method of using a drill to make a feed hole (not sure if this is a good method; there was so much air in his cart i doubt he would be able to use it before drying out the print head with too much air) and then pumping in the ink. I'm afraid to use your method in case (as bch showed) the valve ruptures.

Hi Jose When I try this method to "pop" the membrane, nothing happens before I use so much power that the whole cartridge cracks. I have cracked 5-6 of them by now. Same thing happens all the time. Original cartridges for Epson stylus R2400.
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
Did you use a 20ml syringe? Did extract EVERY drop of ink from them before attempting? It should POP at bout the 7ml point if you are using a 20 ml syringe. If there is ANY fluid still in it will not work and even if it does work, you will aspirate that leftover ink into the diaphragm. You have to hold the cart upside down and vertically so the exit port is pointing up toward the ceiling. Filling can only be done with the exit port aiming toward you and on the bottom if you hold the cart on its edge. Rate of injection is no faster than 1ml per 5 seconds.

I have an Epson RX 500 all-in-one and it's been very cranky. If everything isn't exactly right it will drive you nuts and sometimes it will say a cartridge is empty when it still has over half it's ink. Take a cartridge out, and it won't accept it back. I've even had it tell me a cartridge was empty and I replaced it. Then it said another was empty, then another, etc. until I replaced them all. Epson may be great printers but I think I'll go with something different next time. I had a Lexmark before and it was problem free at a fraction of the cost.

hi jose, I found a espon work force 600, It just print blank pages, So i cleaned the print head by squirting hot water threw the nozzles like it says on the net which was indeed clogged, So i put the ink carts back in and i was getting something on a page but with lines, At the time the inks was getting low on link, Than i tried again and it says the yellow ink cartridge not recognized.. Just keep saying that always now, So i filled it up like in your video thinking maybe its saying that because its out of ink, But nope it still says that... So i was wondering if that sensor got triggered and its out of ink, Will that make it trigger that message? I like to know before i buy new ink for it and find out it still says it and its something with the printer.. Even tho it ony started to do that when it got really low, When i first got it, the ink level that it showed was in the middle, But doing the head cleaning tons of times made it go really low. Its ony yellow that is having that message. Thanks:)
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is very likely that the wet sensor was triggered. What happens is that it is under ink during normal operation. While it is under ink it is able to stay cool. Once ink reaches a certain level, almost empty it is exposed to air and no longer protected and it simply overheats and the circuit is broken. You can reset the chip but the link to the printer is now broken so it will be a no go. You used up all the ink while performing the cleaning cycles.

dont pop the diafragm. Fill the syringe to half (ex 5 ml). turn it up side down and push the air out. attach it to the cartridge and pull the syringe full out to create a vacuum and then push the ink in.

Are you sure? " don't pop the diafragm. Fill the syringe to half (ex 5 ml). WITH INK? turn it up side down and push the air out. YOU MEAN EXPEL THE AIR OUT OF THE SYRINGE BUT WITH ONLY 5ML WORTH ON THE 10ML SYRINGE? attach it to the cartridge and pull the syringe full out to create a vacuum and then push the ink in. SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT YOU CAN VACUMM FILL THE NEW EPSON CARTS THAT WAY?" I would think that if that was all it took, the device that rjettek is selling would not required??? About the resetter, i see there are 2 rows of pins, one row with 3 pins and one with 4 pins, while on the chip there is one row with 4 pins and one with 5, respectively. So is it really compatible? And if i have a 7-pin resetter for, let's say, T0968 series, will it be it suitable for other series of cartridges as well or every series of cartridges needs its own resetter? Is there somewhere a list of series of cartridges that share the same resetter? Thanks in advance.
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
I've made it a point to have both a 7 and 9 pin resetter. Is looks like the resetter pins should match the number of contacts on the chips perfectly but that is not the case. Not all the lower row contacts are used for writing the reset codes to the chips. But the upper 4 always are.

About the CANONs I only know about Carts used on Dedicated Photo Printers so I do not know those cart models. If they are opaque then you really can not realistically refill them accurately. I've had a Lexmark and it was trouble free until our power line had a voltage surge. I have an H P now and it hasn't given any problems. How could I possibly know.... what printer you are talking about? The only Epson printer that uses BLUE ink is the very old R800/R1800. And by the way newer carts for newer printers have a wet sensor that communicates with the driver and when the ink that normally touches it no longer there it shorts out!!! You can reset and refill a thousand times to no avail. Your only option is a new cart.

This method may not work with all newer cart types. Use a 20-30 ml syringe. Many carts have wet sensors and can not be reset after 15% to empty! Let me know if this works on your carts.
@ariesr48837 жыл бұрын
WOW!!!! Tried it out on 220-I carts and works. But I'm still trying to figure out how to reset the ink levels so I can print :/ I noticed that some CISS instruction videos have a button to reset the chip like Joe D mentioned about shorten it out for wet chips. I'm been looking for a wire diagram how to make my own or at least find what the pinouts are.(non wet chips) Any ideas?

Sorry man I thought you were asking about modifying the valve for refilling like on the PRO3800/3880. No this method shown here is for a certain type of cart that has the round diaphragm on the side. Nothing else. It is also a very iffy modification.
@ariesr48837 жыл бұрын
Oh I know my carts have that circle diaphragm... It takes a lot of force to pop it. On the 220-i has a sight glass which is helpful for refill.
@cheo19497 жыл бұрын
Be careful! You can damage them quite easily!
@Bill-ll5py6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, I tried this on six R1800 oem carts. Two "popped" as you described and could be filled, but the others burst under the black label and leaked. Have you experienced this?
@cheo19496 жыл бұрын
I think i mentioned of a device that is about $200 which performed the operation I proposed to do by hand manually doing this introduces too many variables and chances for failures. This was an is a totally experimental process with no 100% guarantees. But once you can modify a full.set of them your are all set.

Hi, I just got a printer with these empty cartridges. I'm allowed to play with it, so I tried putting metal tape across the wetness sensor contacts on a empty cartridge and now it shows its level is full, ....but wont go, the chip still needs resetting, probably. :( Since I think the sensor measures resistance, (short circuiting, makes it full). So maybe try this, it might be a way to reuse your shorted out empty carts. (this is like what ProGamer1515 was trying to do) It's funny I watched your video before I was introduced to the same printer/cartridges you showed. (I'm doing a project where I'm trying to print with water.) your video is really informative!!! thanks :3

How do you short the chip to reset it?
@josephdickson35317 жыл бұрын
It's been a while, I think there are 2 contacts between the chip and the contacts to the sensor. 6:30 I put some copper/aluminium electrical tape over the sensor so the metal back will create a circuit between the computer chip's pins. And the computer chip shouldn't notice the sensor is broken anymore. ^_^ Sorry I don't have it with me at the moment, I'm remembering off the top of my head :P feel free to ask more about it :)

EBay. Should be a 9 pin Epson resetter. Or you can search for a resetter for T087 carts. But remember that these carts have wet sensors. They short out the chip conduit to the printer so it will nmo longer communicate with it. So you can not let them reach less than 20%. Al's this method is very iffy to perform successfully and the people who produced the $200 cart jig no longer offer it. I've done it but it takes some luck as well as skill.

Jose, luv your videos, one I am looking for is about the Epson cart that has the window in the bottom, for the printer to see how much ink is in there, XL200 carts are among these. I am sure I saw a vid you did on this, apparently the refill is similar to what you are doing here in rupturing the diaphragm. The XL200 seem to also have this diaphragm. Any help would be appreciated.
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
+Jackie Dines I don't know of any EPSON OEM carts that show you how much ink is in them. There is a MAZE of channels and chambers inside OEM carts that are completely sealed from the peering eyes. Only Refillable Carts would ever allow you see inside their very simple internal chambers ( Nothing like OEM ). They are the only ones that have see through sides.Even IF you could rupture the membrane ( Iffy Proposition ) how would you reset them? You'd have to find a resetter for those Carts. I understand that it is a three color and black ink printer not really intended for photos but for documents. I would suggest you just use compatible carts on it. That's what I do on my WF1100.Joe
@jackiedines52299 жыл бұрын
+Jose Rodriguez Thanks for your reply and yep it is just a doc printer. I think I have found a video on how to refill them, not a problem. But I would love to ask you what you think about buying a R1900 that has only used one set of inks. I believe these have the TO87 carts. As this printer is getting on now I would imagine that they emptied the carts and never replaced them, so that would be a new set and then the issue of refilling if they have that "wet sensor" you talk about. Is it practical to use CISS or replace the OEM with refillables? Can you use Dye ink as well, if so is there much to preparing the printer to change inks? I am just an enthusiast and getting more and more interested in printing my own pics. So far I only have used the RX650 6 colour printers and these do a pretty good job, but I would really like to achieve two other things, one is to print better black and white, the other is to be able to print A3 size. I bought a RX650 years ago and just recently was given another one as the owners could not handle trying to clean the nozzles and or use refillable carts. So they just went out and bought a new printer. I have now (thanks to your videos) been able to refill the OEM carts and after buying a chip resetter (from the US, I am in Oz) I am happy to say that it is all working a treat. Sorry about this long post but I would love to know your thoughts on the R1900 for my purposes, I cannot afford to buy new and where I live the market is very small, I have been looking for a long time to buy a reasonable Epson A3 photo printer second hand. I think that I should be able to buy it for around $350 AU.
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
+Jackie Dines Jackie, I am sorry I did not see your reply any earlier.The R1900 is a wonderful printer capable of excellent gorgeous results on glossy and lustre papers. If ytou can find it and it is able to be cleared on all nozzles then it will serve you very well. You will have to install and expernal Waste Ink collector simply to make sure that you are no longer dumping ink into the internal pads wehn you have to clean nozzles or after installing a new cart.Good luck!

Hi Jose, Thank you for an informative clip here-and others. I have an 837 with refillable cartridges. Black has become light and cleanings do not help-can I drain the black ink out of the cartridge, put in cleaning solution and then "print" a mostly black photograph to clean the print head? Just wondering, thank you for your time, Scott
@cheo19498 жыл бұрын
+stp479 What do you mean "Black fas become Light"? Are you missing many lines on the nozzle check for black?You can not refill your OEM carts unless you try the method shown here which can be dicey and damage the cart if not dome correctly. Otherwise you would have to use refillable carts and fill them up with something like Piezoflush from Inkjetmall. Not cheap but very effective.
@stp4798 жыл бұрын
+Jose Rodriguez Multiple head cleanings and black is not very dark. I have refillables so thought I could use cleaning fluid in the black refillable cartridge and run another head cleaning. It is only the black giving me trouble-nozzle checks are good on all other colors.

I don't know what you mean with a Reset Button. I think you mean the little lever and or depression to release pressure. Look on the side of the cart where the label is and look for a round 1- 1/5 " diameter depression. If it has that then you could try this method. If not then you my drill from the top but you need to locate the correct location. There is a MAZE of tunnels inside these carts and you will inject ink but it will remain "Locked" up somewhere inside the maze.

Correct. The wet sensor will be tripped around the 20-30% level. You can reset the chip but it will not communicate rough the sensor to come back and tell the driver all is OK. I saw and read parts of the patent for this sensor and it is very well designed to prevent bypassing.

At approximate 16:40 you say DO NOT push any air into the cartridge! But earlier you showed us to push air in until the diaphragm bursts! And, at this point in the video, it appears you have water in the syringe, however you do not say a word about putting water into the cartridge... very long and fairly confusing!
@cheo19496 жыл бұрын
Not at all! You first pop The diaphragm the cart needs to be perfectly empty for that. You use air to do it. Then you refill with ink. It is at that point you do not want to inject air. You want only ink.

Not what I would call a great refill method. You really have to see the inside MAZE of tunnels and passages on an OEM Epson cart to understand why that method would not fully fill a cart with no air in any of the chambers.

Thanks for your findings and for letting us know! I've tried it with a t080x for my R285 and succeed in breaking the membrane. Sadly this wet sensor makes you refill so soon that you can refill only around 5ml of the full 7,5ml (which is a joke actually). So I switched back to refillable carts My question: I wanted to refill also T054x for my old R800. There are refillables on the market but it's hard to find some reliables Do you have tried your method of disrupting the membrane also with this type of carts (for epson r800 and r1800)? I just tried to make it "pop" by pushing air into the outlet. But what have worked out fine with a T080x ended with a leaky T054x. I disrupted the cart, not only the membrane. The T054x is not in your listing but you might have a R800 or 1800 and tried it out...?! martin0reg
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
+martin 0reg Which is why it is only recommended for non wet sensor carts. The R285 carts do not have a sensor

+Jose Rodriguez My question refers to the R800 (you have to scroll down my posting...) Did you ever tried to disrupt the membrane of a T054x for R800 or R1800? I haven't succeed ... So is the only way to refill the r800 OEM carts the "old style"? Which means to refill "inside out" with poking the other hole and using a tube AND a syringe?
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
+martin 0reg I do not have any T054 carts to look at but if they do have the double factory fill holes on the underside, then the best was and only way I would use is with the Rjettek fill system I use in the video. However if they are do not have those two taped over holes then you have to use the newer method which by the way I did not invent. Rjettek actually sells the tool for doing this with very good consistency. I simply wanted to see if I would be able to do the same thing the $220 tool does, by hand.
@martin0reg7569 жыл бұрын
+Jose Rodriguez Yes the T054x have these double factory fill holes, and I tried refilling the old style yesterday. With one end of a tube in the factory hole and the other in the ink bottle, then pulling at the ink outlet with an empty syringe. Just like the guy in the video I have posted above. Like rjettek, but vice versa: by sucking instead of pushing the ink. You only need a tube to stick into the hole with a sealing. And you will need a bigger plug (around 5mm diameter) to close the fill hole. Seems to work out fine yet.
@cheo19499 жыл бұрын
+martin 0reg Yes I've seen that method and either way it works. Supposedly the method I use pushes out 100% of the air that is normally trapped in the ink maze inside the cart much better.Joe

OK here is the deal. There is a difference but it is small. You would have to go to a hundred ML of ink and compare that to 100ml of water. You will probably see a difference. Will it be heavier than water? I do not know nor do I care as it will not matter at all. Example. I weigh a full factory new OEM PRO 3800 cart. It will weigh in at 150 grams. It contains a total of 90ml of ink. 80ml is the factory official volume but it contains a 10ml "Buffer" so you never can actually run out and pull possible air into the lines which is very unlikely anyways. A fully empty equivalent weighs in at about 61-61 ml. If you do the math, it comes out that 90ml of ink weighs about 90 to 89 grams.
