Rank 13 hatchet user, level 26. I absolutely LOVE the hatchet. Full berserker tree. Maxed out berserker and feral rush. Great for chasing down players trying to run. Feral rush with crippling strikes roots the target if it hits them in the back. Then use raging torrent. If you max berserk, you become immune to stagger and can't be interrupted, allowing you to get the full benefit of raging torrent. Also if you're hitting them in the back, you're critring and it HURTS!

@@zzzbenson3499 I use the musket, snipe the enemys at range (questing), for pvp its the same thing. Softeing the targets with the musket, getting them with the fire shot and once they come in range you go bersek and feral rush which (usually) gets them down to 20% - 30% HP :)

Feel like this overlooks the utility of Beserk, it's SO useful because it gives you a move speed buff, pretty substantial heal over time, super armor, and a cleanse on activation if you take the skills. I'm using it as my secondary for Bow and it's so useful for keeping my distance and sustaining the fight longer in PvP situations. The damage is still really good with Dex, (wiki states 1% dex bonus vs 1.5% str bonus) so its not bad at all as a dex weapon, at least in my experience.

I havnt had any trouble when i get grouped up on. When you use the abilities it hits almost all of the enemies in front of you even light attacks can aor hit another enemy

Same here too. I'm guessing they cleaned it up by launch (not the video came out on the 28th so I suspect it's largely based on beta experience). Berserk > Heavy Attack (with Relentless Fury passive) > RT - absolutely demolishes targets single or group.

For me the melee tree works perfectly to pick out single targets in the backline in pvp fights, you are so fast with berserk and deal a huge amount of dmg in a short time

lol wow didn't even mention the heal for beserk. A main melee hatchet is very viable. The nerf hit hard but it still works nice.

@@insidiouscoil8474 I’m using the Bow with Hatchet. In early game you don’t have to worry about eating food or portions, just use berserker.

Raging torrent is absolutely worth it once you commit a point into not being interrupted while Berserking. After a few points in the Berserker tree for the damage buffs, you’ll receive some nice passive skills such as Relentless Fury and Accumulated Power. A good rotation is 3 light attacks, feral rush, a heavy attack and then raging torrent. My rotation is as follows: >Use Berserk >Three light attacks will give you 30% more damage for one attack or 3 seconds. >Use Feral Rush >One Heavy attack will give you 30% more damage for the next 4 attacks or 3 seconds (raging torrent attacks four times) >Use Raging Torrent

Haven't maxed it. My plan is hammer/throw hatchet. Slow them down, rend them and get as many throws until they reach me. Switch to hammer. Rend again, Mighty Gavel, Clear out. Switch back, slow, rend, disease. Only problem is I might not be able to chase down to confirm. So might need berserk for one of those abilites

I dunno I was able to shred through pve content solo that is about 7 levels higher than my current level and shredded in pvp with the hatchet. Focus specs 2:1 into dex and roll strength and constitution. Couple it with a bow, hit a couple bow shots, berserk and then whatever other skills you want. Aim for a light armor build and you can dodge roll anytime you’re going to be hit. Also berserk down the skill line can heal and also make your hits uninterruptible.

I second this. The hatchet just shreds, especially with Berserk up. I've had no issues with enemies 3+ levels over me. The hit box is also fine. I have no problem hitting 2 or 3 enemies at a time because they always group up together.

I was thinking a Hatchet/Spear build with Rending, Berserk, Raging+ Spear Throw, Cyclone for heals, and Sweep for more CC if I get outnumbered. All three physical damage types, good damage and crit, fast cooldowns.

Hatchet is my backup to my bow. It use it a a thrown weapon so I'm all about dodge evasion.

I’ve been running Hatchet and Hammer from the time I picked up the game (I tested other stuff just wasn’t vining with it as much) but I’ve been thinking about switching to a tank/off-tank Sword&Shield/Hatchet combo. After seeing this video I’m definitely gonna have to switch it up and run throwing hatchet rather then melee

level 34, hatchet 16 great axe 15....I can tell you right now, people have a hard time killing you. you do exceptional damage and get a lot of empowered attacks and defensive buffs for fighting. He doesn't really go into that here. The passive bonuses in hatchet are completely one above almost all the weapons, i mean can't be interuppted during beserk, the healing, and the movement speed should definetly be talked about, the axe gives you the mobility and cc you need as well as a better blocking weapon, and some heavy damage. He says reap isn't that good on the great axe video but with the void well it's super strong, void well completely drains stamina, gives you fortify if you walk in it and if someone tries to roll out you can just pull them back into it. PVP and PVE it's a good combo you do massive amounts of damage in a small amount of time with the hatchet not sure what his playstyle is but its working wonders for me.

@@marekj1010 use a mix stay in medium weight and you'll thrive, slow rolling is not what you want to do it's up to you what you want to prioritize in terms of constitution and strength but I put more into strength for the damage I'm using the 3rd rank faction hatchet with a level 1 nature gem I might buy another if I don't find something stronger and put an onyx gem on it for a 15% bonus to targets with full health. I recommend staying in medium weight because you can do a dash attack with hatchet since it attacks pretty fast I get people running away from me pretty almost instantly and it takes at least 3-4 to bring me down but I always take one with me. I am a level 20 spear (impaler) once I reach level 20 I searched for other weapons and I tried hatchet with 70 str 170 dex and it’s fucking op. I will change my attributes tomorrow. I have 6 points rn still enough for everything.

The crit buf in the throwing tree says +5% on all attacks. Is it actualy all or only throw?

hatchets and spears should have a stance that lets you throw it as a basic attack with no cooldown like a bow Attacking with a bow without aiming it should do a kick combo

Berserk has a perk you can get that makes you uninterruptible, I'm full berserk tree with a spear and I main dexterity, spear has alot of stuns so I open with it, as it does more damage too, but then switch to hatchet I berserk and do rage flurry and the two hit attack, by then I can switch back to spear and stun again. I use heavy armor and mained dex, a little strength and a touch of constitution since the heavy armor does good and reducing alot of damage.

Whichever weapon is going to be your main DPS weapon, but points into that attribute. So Hatchet > Strength, and Spear > Dex

Probs dex. If you follow their advice, you're gonna switch to spear to do most DPS. Spear scales much better with sex than str and you don't care about hatchet damage as much. (Hatchet scales with strength more)

@@Dunkel725 the bonuses for dex as well are better for hatchet than the bonuses for strength. Crit is amazing for hatchet and for that reason dex surpasses the benefit of strength scaling in the long run.

Hatchet is the best pve weapon out of all weapons BY FAR. It's small hit box doesn't really give trouble in pve but in pvp it is a serous problem

Using Hachet as a secondary weapon, going mainly into the Throwing tree, and Life Staff as a primary weapon. Use the Life Staff for buffs and heals and during Life staff cds, switch to Hachet to throw out the abilities as they can all debuff, then switch back to life staff to continue healing and buffing teammets, makes a great rotation and very active. Also hachet is nice to have for PvP and PvE when enemies start grouping up onto you as life staff can't hit multiple units.

Shame you probably cant have double hatchet build where your other hatchet would be melee and other ranged. Because talents would switch both to ranged then unless your ok that you can't block anymore. Also I dont knoe if you can have that many skillpoints.

@@gibbzy7030 I dont know anymore. I think hatchet shines solo pve, 5+ mobs, passive that gives 10% dmg for each mob near you. The hit box on hatchet is so bad for pvp, whats worse, every other melee has some sort of lunge effect when almost in range to hit while hatchet stays stationary, that is my biggest concern.
