GS pairs well with SnS as you can use the SnS with a more defensive spec, swap to GS with a more support (rend+taunt), and quick damage with leeching for sustain, not to mention timing it to defend a big boss hit mechanic. Also - Hated is a wasted perk and losing 50% to go with the Heartglass gem is insignificant and worth easy Stam sustain. Agro isn't an issue in this game. Once you have it, you keep it so long as you still hit the enemy some. Refreshing and refeshing move to keep taunts poppin' are pretty OP in terms of agro sustain, not to mention the defensive gains. DPS needs to learn to be smarter in New World's population. Give the tank 3 seconds to get their agro before you start unloading. Throw a basic attack in to get started, but don't nuke the damn thing the second the fight starts. Agro plus proper positioning can take a few seconds on boss fights. I come across a lot of healers that start healing as the tank is running in to. Makes it harder to group up adds when clearing trash and gets healers damaged way more than necessary. Learn to recognize the taunting animations and wait to see one before you start doing your thing. The better control the tank has, the easier everyone else's job becomes. I'd argue with anyone that controlling a fight is more important than a couple more DPS percentage points. My favorite old school saying - Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Happy hunting everyone!!

@ChēnsōAkuma I have never had agro issues. Ever. I don't use hated perk. My spec does the threat gen for me because I spec purely for threat and surviving, not dps like most of the main recommended build you see from these streamers. I'll give you an example - SnS with GS you have 5 threat gens, 2 of which are AOE. If you have 5 threat generators and can't hold agro without hated, I don't know what to tell ya. Do what you gotta do I guess. Good luck out there.

keep in mind, if you going to have "bane perks" on your weapons you going to have to have 4 different versions of them (ancient, corrupted, angry earth and lost) and have to keep swapping them out which is a pain so might want to go with something like, refreshing move, enchanted, keenly empowered FIRST before you get all those other swords or greatswords or whatever.

I Found out that Tanking in OPR is amazing and alot of fun, i was up agenst NGL 20 players and i had a healer on me, they could not kill me and after 5 to 8 min they started to ignore me and ran away xD Tanks in OPR needs to be in the frontline taking up all the damage so the rest of you team can start killing them one by one, imo its alot of fun :)

I like the website. I wish there was a single page that showed info on 2/3 perk items + STAT Attribute that are good for selling purposes. I get so much stuff and I know most of what to sell and what to salvage but some weapons I don't play so I know nothing about the builds people use. I have storage sheds completely full of gear, but too lazy to go through it and sell, especially since you can only list 100 items. This is why I wish you could put items up for bid on the trade post.

"Somewhat okay earring" - Those three perks are, in my opinion, the best tanking perks. I've got to the point where I value Nimble above almost every perk on an earring. I know it's a tiny percentage difference, but at the highest level, that tiny edge is where you win.

Ive been using GS for tanking a lot lately. I still prefer Steadfast strike for the cooldown of my abilites as it allows me to counter and taunt quicker. I understand Im losing some damage however personally I like it as a tank. You video helped me a lot, too many people think running anything but S&S is taboo so thank you for being open about it and actually building it. I think your even in my server LOL. Been watching you since Realm Royal my man, the reason I played warrior was all because of you in that game

After playing New World's new expansion, it has become my main game. It was always enjoyable, but like everyone else, I was discouraged by all the chaos happening. I really like what they've done with the game, adding more quests, mobs, and the addition of all the qol improvements that have kept the spirit of the grind alive, while not making the game feel like a full-time job. I'd say it's a solid A game, and hopefully they can implement some more forms of gameplay or content to make it a S-tier game

Great general guide here. For my choice of warhammer, I prefer having perks that give me health back. The current one I have gives health back on every strike, and health using path of destiny (I know PoD isnt really bis for PvE). Just means I can take a lot of pressure from the healer. This particular warhammer also has shirking arcane for a bit more damage. Got it from the OPR boxes sometime ago.

Which was the main point. Once again I know it's not BIS and said that in the first post. But I like it and the healer in the m10s isnt complaining. Perhaps I'll drop BIS someday.

great guide, you think I could use sword and shield only for the tanking side and secondary greatsword for the big dmg? so i can tank and deal dmg? or is a bad idea and tanks should focus solely on tanking on greater mutations? It could definitely work yeah! Just be wary because the incoming damage is going to feel crazy different when you swap weapon swap, defensive sword and shield has a lot of damage reduction and incoming healing boons, whereas Greatsword onslaught will have you lose those passives and instead be taking 15% more incoming damage!

Doesn't reverse stab lock you in an animation? I prefer whirling blade. Keenly fortified is awesome pops off every 10 seconds. One thing I did not see mentioned, learn swing timers of mobs, block is very responsive, so when a mob swings at you, block it, then you swing your sword 3 times, this will keep your stamina bar at full. Using your shield effectively will reduce the amount of damage you take.

Hi, I've seen builds with BB/SnS, but they're quite old, but some of them make sense, so I've played around a little bit to see how it's going to go. I think you want to go with Claw Shot for sure since it's taunt gem compatible, other than that I'd take Azoth shrapnel blast and Splitting grenade when leveling to then swap it with Blast shot. Then take both passives that grant Fortify in both trees and the Last Chance from Chaos tree. This, of course, needs testing at the endgame, I'm only levelling atm.

I wanted to add another tanking weapon combo for very advanced tanks for M10s: Hatchet and Great Axe. It should be noted that 300 Str is a requirement. Hatchet you want Refreshing Move, Refreshing Torrent, and Bane Great Axe, you want Keen, Bane, Lifestealing. Ring needs Keen Awareness and Hearty. You specifically want the crit chance because of the healing on GA with crit. As much Refreshing Ward/Refreshing Evasion as possible depending on your playstyle and healer. The idea is to group mobs, grav them, Reap through them for taunt, and finish them off quickly. Hatchet is mainly for bosses and using Infected Throw to weaken the mobs. This allows for insanely fast clears. Even with randoms, you can consistently get sub 20min Dynasty M10s.

I dont want to presume to tell you how to tank but I just wanted to share with you my personal opinion from experience with brimstone. I have been tanking for the majority of my 2k hr experiece with new world and I can say after doing quite a few enead expedition runs, the greatsword out performs sword and shield by a tremendous leap. Other than the lack of an extra single target taunt the actual damage reduction is insane when in guard point. I take vastly less damage with spamming heavy attacks while in guard point than I do with sword and shield and defiance stance active getting 50% damage reduction. It's rediculous. And to make things even more unbalanced. The actual stamina damage to guard point is around 30% of the stamina damage received while blocking with sword and shield or with the greatsword itself. More damage dealt and less damage taken. You loose a single target taunt but don't really need it with the amount of threat the 5 stack bleed generates. Honestly it's not even a contest. I went into brimstone thinking ima swap my tanking paladin hammer sword pvp build for a sword shield greatsword leeching build when in reality I'm able to swap the sword and shield to raw damage and keep the hammer mastery the way it is both for pvp and pve since they are the same, and I use the greatsword exclusively for tanking now. I'm in love with it. I'm praying it doesn't get nerfed because I absolutely love it.

I just don't know here. I see so many tanks trying to use this Shield Rush and Revers Stab combo (DPS have weaken and rend 9 times out of 10). It leaves some mobs free to run around, especially if the grouping of a gravity well misses targets or a healer heals too quickly. It just becomes so messy. It's even worse if the tanks are still looking for the perks you speak of. When you read over these in your head it may seem good on paper but fails most of the time. Too much reliance on a cool down for one taunt. Fortify is not the answer to full damage mitigation, block is. DPS for Argro with a sword while mobs facing you is a certain way to lose Argro, DPS out AGRO. If you're hitting a mob, even in sacred ground your never at full health so 15% bonus is a waste. You should be talking about the more important things like Haste, Slows and threat generating abilities within the trees to keep all situations smooth. Leave the Damage Dealing to the DPS the healing to the Healers and the Tanking to the Tanks. Maybe you should try Leaping Strike, Shield Bash, Defiant and third attack threat with haste and slow. Healers are always safe and so are the new random DPS players.

new world gear/loot system is so bad. I mean you need multiple sets to progress, and if you don't people won't take you. For a casual player it's just gated. I legit am struggling to even get decent stated gear without levelling crafting as crafting levelling cost/time is a whole other storey. Why can't they just have decent drop rates from dungeons instead of running endless dungeons with terrible gear only getting crap gear. People say NW is casual friendly, but there is a massive wall when you have played all normal content. Still playing, but it's just dis-heartening to watch people like this who level crafting when it was cheap/easy.
