1:10 I'm impressed that your Xbox 360 still opens its tray so smoothly. Mine (classic version) gets stuck, so I have to put pressure on the tray with a card while pressing the eject button.

@@HMF47 my tray only opens if there was already a disk inside of it if it shuts without a disc in it, then I have to smack the front of my consul in order to get it to pop open and before anyone says anything, I’ve tried pretty much everything else this is the only way I can get it to work

I feel your confusion for re-downloading games, but if you have not pinned or have the disc you can go on settings, account settings and then there he is the download chronology

Even then that list doesn’t say what game the DLC belongs to. “Map pack 01” isn’t very informative. They left the store partially open, why not the usual search function to find the title?! MS should’ve focused on customer satisfaction and building brand loyalty instead of cheaping-out.

I don't think Microsoft should have deleted the menu selection. At least, by leaving a choice, you wouldn't have left a sad feeling that the store was closed.

I don't know if I EVER once bought or downloaded something from the store on Xbox 360 but I do kind of miss the old layout, as cluttered and busy as it was with all the ads and promotions for games and content, it did have an oddly comforting feel to it.

You should be able to reinstall games by viewing your purchase history. I can't confirm this myself because I have an RGH 360, but you can try it by pressing the Xbox guide button, then scrolling to 'Settings' > 'Account Management' > 'Purchase History.'

It's kind of confusing, but it's not Purchase History, it's Download History (even when you have never downloaded the game previously on that particular console).

Just go to purchase history in settings. Everything you paid for you should be able to download no issues. Sounds like your complicating things

Clearly, the worst aspect of purchasing games digitally is the fact nothing can stop game companies from deciding when to permanently disable the ability to redownload copies of games you purchased via their digital store. As for the Xbox 360 store, the shutdown completely screws over users who missed their chance to get the Xbox 360 Arcade games before the shutdown but want to add arcade games to their library (especially if those arcade games users want in their library can't be purchased through the current Xbox store or any other platform of course) because Xbox 360 Arcade games were always digital and never arrived in physical copies.

For most of those games on the PS4 and PS5 they do contain the full game data on the disc. For the exception of some that do need updates. Please don’t blanket over those systems as having no physical complete data on the discs.

doesitplay.org shows that roughly 239 of the PS5's 2,660 games are playable without a download and about 741 of the PS4's 10,745 games are playable without a download. That means that when the servers shut down, you'll be able to play 9% of PS5 games and 6.8% of PS4 games without a required download. I wouldn't call a single digit percentage of games "most" games for those consoles. I wasn't blanketing over this systems because I felt like it. My statement was based on current statistics and research into what does and doesn't require a download to play the game.

So when you tested out Gears of War and Halo 3, my question is could the difference be that you have the disc for Halo 3? It doesn't make it any less confusing, but maybe if you tested another game that you have on disc and also bought digitally, you'll at least have some sort of basis or pattern.

Maybe, but why invalidate my digital purchase because I have a disc too? I’m sure lots of people bought a digital copy of a game because they were replacing their disc copy. That could be a big problem

As a long time avid 360 gamer myself just like you, I agree that the store's closure creates major problems. Especially since like I always say, the rationale behind purchasing copies of games is to be able to access and play them anytime you wish and as many times as you wish.

If you buy a 360 in 2024, you just won't be able to purchase digital copies of games from the now defunct store. As for the top 10 disk games, are we talking exclusives? If you're going to buy a used 360, the price of the console depends on a wide assortment of factors (i.e. what other accessories arrive with it, the model type, condition of the console and accessories themselves, etc.)
