Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

Cannot believe you've been there 3 years! It was only yesterday that you guys announced on Chateau Diaries that you found a place of your own. Absolutely love the changes you've made so far. Love the wallpaper in the conservatory. Every time I see it, I want to dress up in a lovely spring dress and start dancing. It is so uplifting and happy! Love your outings to beautiful places. My interests are similar to Sarah's regarding sewing, so I love the spot-the-sewing-finds in all the videos. You are such a beautiful couple. Happy New Year and may you have a prosperous 2024.

Hi Steven and Sarah, The fireplace is GORGEOUS! My mom was a single parent and she renovated a 110 year old home room by room( pretty much single handedly. I remember how much work it was for her. As one of her kids (me) I helped her renovate as much as a child could. My mom was so creative and talented!! I miss her ( she died when I was 37 and I am 71 now). Happy New Year to you!!! How lovely to see the main floor this way, and realize just how much progress you've made!! Everything is looking beautiful so far. The Monet kitchen areas as an inspiration seem to go well with your love of color and artistry! And after the paper you made for Stephanie in her little loo off the winter salon-I cannot wait to see what you decide on for your bathrooms! Yes please, we'd love to see the second floor! Thanks for taking us all along on your renovation adventures!!

I know that the "conservatory" as you refer to that room is ORIGINALLY THE "BUTLERS PANTRY" - the many closets for storage of food, dishes, serving pieces, and its located between the kitchen and dining room....probably was a long table in the center and was used by servants/previous owners as a silver polishing, dish sorting, food replenishing room by them...BUTLERS PANTRY..SERVING AREA.

I agree with the comment about the wallpaper in the grand entrance. I too love the fireplace but I feel that the wallpaper is so so busy that it distracts from the fireplace and it does not show off Steve’s great artwork to its potential. Just plain painted walls in that room would be much better. But it would be a massive job to remove the wallpaper for sure! You would need to have a big removal party and invite all of your friends!

A conservatory as a room is one with glass walls and ceiling, much like a greenhouse but is attached to the house. I don’t think yours is such a space. However, it might have been a breakfast room, which is a room off the kitchen not the size of a dining room but more compact and is meant for intimate meals most often with family.

Happy 2024! Yes, 1er stage/2nd floor tour please! The main floor’s floor plan was very helpful. I thought I had it correct in my head, but my mental one was a bit off, especially on the grande/petite salon side. 😉 I agree, not a modern white kitchen. It would be so out of place. Greetings and blessings from a fellow Canadian who sends you wishes for good health, and a year of joyful events that bring you wonder. I enjoyed the tour. It is helpful to have these type of updates. For the kitchen I believe that you are absolutely correct in not choosing a North American style kitchen. I feel it would be disrepectful to the nature of the chateau. I know that sometimes seeing the true colour of things is difficult on video and I am wondering the chandelier in the diningroom, does it have a real yellow light to it? Just asking as I find the yellow to be in competition with the nice colour on the walls. It is wonderful to see all the creativity that you both are nuturing.

Drop ceiling in kitchen: If you plan on putting a rosette over the chandelier. You can cut out a smaller hole, to the higher ceiling, where you can put a chain that comes out with a hook through the rosette. The rosette can act as a trap door with screws attaching it to the ceiling. You might have to frame the inside of the hole to accept the screws.
@AtlantaGarden
@AtlantaGarden 8 ай бұрын
OR: use the same method for hanging a ceiling fan the way we do in North America- after cutting the hole, affix a brace between 2 beams, and suspend the chandelier from the brace. [You might find those type of instructions on KZbin.] And rosettes are available in plastic, too. Just get one bigger than the hole.
