New York City cheaper than San Francisco? Not so fast
What's up KZbin it's your boy again Jermaine Back with another video. In this video I want to compare and contrast New York versus San Francisco. In this video I'm only hitting the main topics cost of living eating out in the city and transportation costs. Both cities are very expensive nowadays. Majority of my New York friends think New York is the most expensive. Let's do a little comparing contrast. New York is cheaper when it comes to food. There are so many more food options in New York. San Francisco is a much smaller city versus New York. SF has a population of around 800,000 people. New York on the other hand has a population of around 8 million. Let's talk about getting around the city. New York is easier and cheaper to get around. San Francisco on the other hand as many hills. SF neighborhoods are very spaced out. As well as commuting costs in the Bay Area can quickly add up. Talk about the weather? Everyone knows that the weather in the bay is more desirable. Especially in the summertime. What am I talking about the wintertime too

isn't comparing the population of New York (all the boroughs) to just the City of San Francisco not balanced? wouldn't it be more accurate comparing the population of the Bay Area entirely

What's crazy is that Greenwich Village, East Village, Lower East Side, Chelsea, & Hell's Kitchen were once cheap neighborhoods. They were considered ghetto neighborhoods. Then the hipsters started moving there & that's when the rent skyrocketed.

Here in Texas, we pay 8.25 percent sales tax. When you order things from catalogs, taxes, covid-based charge, shipping, and prompt shipping fee totals up to about what the items cost. Then, you're lucky if you ever receive what you order and pay for. 🙄

Great overview! Agree with almost all points. A couple updates about SF: * You can now get a Clipper card in the bay, which you can use for Bart, Muni and Caltrain. * You can get a monthly Bart/Muni Pass for ~ $75/month * Life is most certainly not laid back in the Bay if you're looking to work at a high-growth startup or VC firm * Going out in NY >>>>>>> SF (always probably will be this way) * The trains stopping at 12 is still a problem and I have no idea why this is even a thing still. This city goes to sleep way too early. * Male/female ratio is a huge thing NY has going for it over the Bay

I would like the weather better in New York, and I like the idea of rent control and lower rent there. I live in a 2-bedroom spacious apt. for $700/month. But. . . the management brings in the most sketchy tenants you can imagine!

Not...... San Francisco is more expensive than New York .... Rent, food... Repair car Buy car insurance ...so so so so so Expensive U cannot compare the house prices Because some place people don’t buy house.. Like San Francisco’s New York’s Hong Kong’s these density city People don’t buy apartments They just rent... Cheapest meal in San Francisco Food hall 10 dollars Normal meal 15 20dollars.. San Francisco is a fortune small beautiful city like zurich , Geneva.. New York is a big hub city which should compare with Tokyo Hongkong, Singapore, London, Paris such like that..

Great video. My rent just went up a bit in the Seattle area, but we're not quite as expensive as SanFran and NYC. And our transit systems are pretty well linked up in the Sound area with the Orca card, just like in NYC. Sorry I haven't been watching / commenting on many of your videos lately. I got a job over the summer that was taking a ton of hours out of every day.

You can't compare going from Oakland to San Francisco with going from The Bronx to Brooklyn. You would have to compare it to going from White Plains to Manhattan. You have to pay for the Metro-North & pay for NYCT. Then again the buses in Westchester County, Nassau County, & Suffolk County cross honor the Metrocard. Also in NYC it's illegal for bars & restaurants to sell alcohol from 4a-12p. Liquor stores can't open until 8a. On Sunday there's a complete alcohol ban from 2a-8a.

I have to disagree with you on this one. But when I took a trip to San Francisco, I found out that San Francisco is the most expensive city in America due to the high price of housing. Their rent is over $1.3 million a year! 1.3 MILLION DOLLARS! Talk about INSANE!

I know, Like my uncle live in San ramon she works in San Jose 40 to 50 miles each way And like your example Richmond to San Francisco also 40 miles, cross bridge cost 5 dollars.. let me calculate, It just 20-30 dollars car fuel+ bridge cost every day. I live in the city and have my parking space But daily fuel cost nearly 15dollars Monthly bridge cost nearly 30 dollars Which San Francisco also has the most expensive public parking fee and the worst road.. 3.5-6.5 dollars per hour

I have been to New York in December it is wicked cold would not go back in the winter New York is one big hustle not really my style nor is San Francisco I am a marin county guy it's nice and mellow here and I prefer to drive uber in marin as to the city thanks for sharing very educational for us non travelers are you thinking about driving uber anytime soon what's your option on the legislative that uber driver will have to have commercial insurance and commercial plates is this the end of drivers making any money what a joke? Also I heard that they are giving penalties for driver that don't operate with a business license in SF.

Also there's no bat-shit crazy NIMBYs in NYC, that's why they can have an actual function housing market -- while building new, high-tech buildings. SF is just too old to be pay $3k. Techie speaking.

Nice comparison I will like to go to the Bay area and check it out but then again as of now I'm just staying in the south east. San Francisco now has literally the highest average rents in the world. Commercial real estate, lacking rent control, is even higher. So, of course, the restaurants need to charge more to cover the rent.
