If you listened to the New York Dolls , then you know what real rock is. So unique one of a kind

The Dolls were even called 'punk' back in 1974 news articles. Read the review of their Vancouver concerts. Term was already in use.

Great footage. Lots of TV shots got destroyed. Glad this was saved & even gladder that you uploaded it. Thanks! Yes, the Cadets (recorded this song as the 'Jacks") had the famous version . The Jayhawks did the original version. Like many up-and-coming-but-never-got-there bands, their cover was quickly covered by the Cadets. Marketing muscle took over from there. Karl Perkins knows how this goes. Don't forget the writers. Stranded in the Jungle was written by Ernestine Smith and James Johnson.

probably one of the less popular Dolls tunes- but I love it! At the Burlington VT show in June 2009 DavidJo asked for any requests and I hollered for this and everyone around me looked at me like I had 2 freakin heads... They did an awesome acoustic version of this during their May 2009 tour of South America- on the radio- DavidJo forgot a few lyrics, but, what the hell..

@bigal838 I think all of them had "invented" it. They had a very different style, but the people says that they were glams for his clothes style and make up. But if you look to Bolan, Bowie and the new york dolls, they are very different.

@bigal838 Well, New York Dolls (& Lou Reed) in New York, it was just the fashion of the New York underground and all. Bowie was influenced by Marc Bolan, but was already dressing strange (red hair in Space Oddity video, Man Who Sold The World cover, big hats in the Warhol meeting). But when Bolan broke trough with White Swan with all those glitters and all, Bowie must have thought ''Let's go all the way'' and then invented Ziggy.

They're musical influence is outrageously over rated. In the image and attitude department, they're in the upper echelon. But lets not get carried away. They were bold and confident coming out on stage in a drag. By audacity alone they seemed to have been persuasive. But if they didn't look the way they looked they would not be remembered for their songs alone. Thats a fact.
