Thanks for showing us around the Indo food scene in NYC - just recently fell in love with Indonesian cuisine and I plan on checking out all the Indonesian spots up there! By the way, if you ever come down to Philly, I can show you around (esp the Indonesian restaurants/grocery stores - I know all of them!) - maybe do a co-host on your show or do a collab!

I'm so glad Indonesian food is being represented and especially in Queens. New York City is arguably the greatest city on the planet not just because of its financial wealth but because of it's wealth of diversity and multiculturalism. It has food and people from all over the world. That mix creates enormous energy. That energy fuels creativity. That creativity brings success and wealth. You can't have the latter without the former. And it has always been that way. NYC got hit hard by this pandemic. So many were wounded by it. So many were lost. But it has weathered the storm. Keep going TJ. Keep exploring the food treasures of NYC in all its cracks and corners. Show us its vibrancy. Maybe then we'll fully understand why the Big Apple keeps drawing them in.

@@alyssazahra4869 My Javanese partner would kill me if I described an example of Indonesian food as "gourmet malaysia." Without starting yet another conflict in the world, I kind of get her point: a lot of "cultural appropriation," as the young people call it, in Malaysia, e.g., randang, batik, various sweets -- all centuries of history originating in what is now Indonesia described all over the internet as Malaysian.

Give it a try! The first few months living by myself in The Netherlands was kinda hard for me as well, because I'm not accustomed to cook Indonesian food from scratch. Took me a few months to have trial & errors, with the right ingredients (even the packet seasonings or dried Asian/Indonesian herbs) you'll be able to recreate most dishes :) I can't say I'm the best home-cook, but I managed to come close to the flavours of home while being half the world away from home. If you need some useful cooking channels from actual Indonesian chefs, definitely check out Devina Hermawan (her videos have English translations)!

Ketoprak consisted of vermicelli, rice cake, tofu, bean sprout with peanut sauce topped with kerupuk. 2nd chef wang was right (of course he made it) it was serundeng. Serundeng is crispy fried coconut shred with spices and kremes is fried batter (mixture of tapioca, rice flour and spices). They are both yum yum..esp when you mixed it into your warm fluffy rice.. yum
