So very enjoyable. I feel as if I am with you. I love lamb it was a staple meat for us as kids living in England and Australia. Ferry ride brought back memories of traveling from Bar Harbour to Yarmouth Nova Scotia, St John, New Brunswick to Digby Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to Nova Scotia, we had a cabin that was huge on 2 of those rides. I also ferried across the English Channel to France and took the Hovercraft back to Dover, that was in the sixties. The hovercraft was huge and ferried vehicles. The passenger section was like a huge flat saucer with airplane style seating. The trip was quick and the craft hovered out of the water onto a giant pad and then deflated to allow us to disembark.

On a lovely day, just being in wellington is top notch! If you're around, catch the days bay ferry and have a picnic at Eastbourne. -Scorching bay is a BEAUTIFUL beach to visit. -Te Papa is our awesome museum, we also have the museum of City and sea, which has a lot of our history. -Head to kapiti island, it's a nature reserve. If you walk to the top you can look out at the endless ocean. Its amazingly beautiful, and I've just learnt you can stay overnight! so cool! -On Friday nights we have a night market in left bank, up cuba street, usually some food stalls and local musicans playing music :) -Weta workshop tours in mirimar are something not to be missed if you like Lord of the Rings and such! (Matamata, which is up north and NOT in wellington has the Hobbiton tours) -you could walk up to the Mt vic look out for a stunning (yet usually windy) view of the Capital -We have awesome botanical gardens, if you come in January, every night there is free live music in the sound shell there :) -We have the Carters observatory which is really cool, and to get there you can take the cable car which has an awesome light tunnel! -We have the Zoo, if you like those, apparently (though I haven't been) they have incredible animal encounters you can do) -Cuba street in wellington Is quite cool, there you'll fine the infamous bucket fountain, and get an overall feel for the vibe of wellington. Not far from there is café laffare, which is a really wonderful coffee shop (we love coffee in wellington!) --Just walking around the wellington waterfront is lovely. Depending on the time of year, we have loads of things happening across the waterfront. All year round you can hire a Croc bike to ride around (they are pretty fun) and you can do the peddle boats in the lagoon :) - you could do a parliament tour if you wanted, though I found it dull, but each to their own! If you want to try some awesome food, I would recommend a mince and cheese pie. My fave pie shop in the WHOLE wellington area is in Island Bay at a place called Blue Bell, they also do the most FANTASTIC Lamingtons there, so good they reignited my love of them. Fidels is also a popular café in wellington as is the Chocolate fish! Another place in the North island I would recommend, Rotorua! I'm so sad the endless advanture and The Way away missed it! Make sure you take time to go there! It smells bad for a while due to the sulphur, but its all part of the experience :) If you do head there, make sure you go visit the blue and green lakes, Kuirau Park is awesome (these are free btw). For fun, but not free, you can go up the gondola and do the luge! SO much fun! Or do the redwood forest walk (at night) :) Hopefully that helps!

@michaelheliotis52795 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately New Zealand doesn't have an army large enough to go to war for cheaper fuel prices, and the price also includes a tax that has to be spent on infrastructure, which is unfair because not everyone who drives a car does it on the road, so they shouldn't have to pay for all the people that do. The price also includes an environmental tax and a healthcare tax, but tbh it's not like anyone needs clean air or free hospital care anyway. It's funny though, because despite the fact that fully 39% of that fuel price is just tax of one kind or another, New Zealand actually has the 6th lowest fuel taxes in the _world,_ with many OECD countries having fuel taxes higher than 60%. So apparently we don't like our functioning infrastructure, clean air, and free healthcare anywhere near as much as Europe does.
@salanicus5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelheliotis5279 Yes, I lived in Europe for ten years, based in Denmark and fuel prices were the same, and all goods had a 20% fee added, and cars were taxed at 100%. But, the employee tax rate today starts at 50% even if you work at McDonald's (70% if you actually make a big salary) which is why they have to earn $20 an hour at McDonald's. But all those taxes help pay for the huge social nets. I guess in small countries it's easier to manage. Though Denmark is not fully socialized as it's a free market economy. It has given my 2 Danish son's a great education :)
@michaelheliotis52795 жыл бұрын
@@salanicus Glad you weren't upset by my sarcastic kiwi humour. But yeah, in addition to the countries being smaller, it definitely helps that basically everyone in the country is on the same page. Like, in NZ our right-wing party is more left-wing than the Democrats and would never dream of minimising or removing any of the social welfare programs and systems. Our healthcare system subsidises the cheapest version of each medication and a few years back when the party was in government, they reduced the subsidies so that you have to pay $5 instead of only $3, but that was only because the price had technically gone down due to inflation. The most Republican thing they ever did was try to open up the national parks to mining operations, but then a petition to force a referendum on the issue was gaining steam so the government backed off. I suppose, though, that it still ultimately comes down to being smaller, because it means we're all a lot closer together in heart and mind. It's just like how most people in California are Democrats and most people in Texas are Republicans; most people in New Zealand are democratic socialists who want everyone to be healthy and sheltered whether or not they can afford it. And even the most extreme right-wingers agree, even if it's only because they don't want to deal with diseased bums cluttering up the streets.
@markelliott61125 жыл бұрын
yes we pay a fortune for petrol here in New Zealand, we have lots of greedy government taxes. Bummer. However - it is a great place to live, so we are blessed. Come visit !!
