I’m actually planning on going their next Fall to be a Marching Southerner tbh, I’m not sure if I will be switching instruments for Marching Rookie year. But my Primary Instrument is the Alto Sax also love to play the Piano as well, but wanting to learn the Mellophone. But for years throughout HS I always Loved the Marching Southerners so much that I have decided that it’s my 4 Year School I want to go to. I just Graduated Hs in ‘21, but taking a Gap Year so instead being a Rookie this year I’m gonna try for Freshman next Fall. But can’t wait tho so Excited I have Never seen nor heard them before but have seen their Campus right before Construction happened. But still Loved it so I can definitely say Go Gamecocks & go Marching Southerners... but both of my HS & MS Band Directors went, Graduated, & Marched in the same exact Band, while right now have a HS Section Leader who I Graduated with who is in the Altos as well. So can’t wait tho so Excited I’m going to work hard at it tho.

I was at this exhibition as a student back in 2012. Eventually, I ended up marching cymbals in 2015 and was on the JSU quadline in 2016 (far left end of the quadline). Gotta say, I wouldn't trade my experience with this group for anything in the world. It was awe-inspiring and pure magic to make moments like these happen. OAS, AAS, LLS. Much love to my fellow Southerners in the comments. Keep up the good work for us old-folks. "Some glad morning..." Sending love from Jacksonville, Courtney! Happy to have found your channel.

HECK YESSSSS, I wasn’t in the band at this point but I joined later in 2015-2016 So glad you got to see this, we take great pride in ourselves; noted as one of if not THE greatest marching band on the planet, everything we do is to honor those who came before us. Every show we March with the spirit of those who marched before and will March in the future, the way we March on is tradition, the songs we warm up with are tradition, the chants we have are tradition, tradition to push you to your limits, to go beyond what you believe is possible and live up to the greatness that came before. Our drummers practice a minimum of 15 hours a day for 9 months of the year, after the performance “ILL FLY AWAY” this is a tradition we have after every big performance, while we do practice Every single day; we practice singing every Thursday, and yeahhhh this is pretty much organized chaos and pure adrenaline!

The Marching Southerners is one of the best marching bands on planet earth ... bar none. Dr. Walters was an inspirational genius and over a period of many decades he built the entire musical department including the Southerners to one of the best in the nation. Dr. Walters inspired me to discontinue my musical aspirations (not that I wasn't any good) and to begin a new career in the healthcare industry which I did and have been a practicing PA now for over 20 years. Every time I see a video of the Southerners performing I can't help but wonder how great it would have been to be one. I will never forget the day I married my wife for two reasons. First my wife of course and the second reason when I turned to watch my blushing bride walk down the isle I just happened to see Dr. Walters in attendance. I couldn't believe it. He traveled 9 hours one way to attend my wedding. Afterwards, he my wife and I talked for hours. Dr. Walters was an exceptionally kind hearted and intelligent man. Anyone who had the pleasure of either working or learning with him were certainly blessed in my opinion. "GO SOUTHERNERS"
