She might be one of the few world leaders and politicians that Trump has not insulted so the relationship between the US government and the NZ one is not tense and filled with mistrust. I may not like Trump, but it doesn’t matter when you take the lives, needs and general wellbeing of millions of lives. She’s using a soft approach on diplomacy. Not directly criticizing or contradicting him. Plus it’s bad manners to attack foreign heads-of-state on their own turf. Misleading. New Zealand is a small country with few guns to begin with. It has a small population as well. The US is a large country with a large population but even still the number of guns in proportion to the population is 1 to 1. Few if any countries have that proportion of guns to population. We don't have more "bad people" in the US than in other places. What we have is arguably the easiest access to guns for the amount of "bad people" to get them. 10,000 gun homicides a year in the US with a population of 325 million people. The amount of gun homicides in the UK is less than 50 per year for a population of 65 million. If our model followed UK then we would only have around 300 gun homicides a year instead of 10,000. What is the difference between USA and the UK? The proportion of guns to people. The ease of access to guns and what guns are available to the general public. Why is there such a difference between the countries? Because no other country, not the UK or anywhere else do they have a right for private citizens to own guns and the easy access to them in the form of laws. Why was New Zealand able to so quickly change their gun laws after the massacre? (1) No 2nd amendment (2) No NRA bullying parliament members into doing nothing. Let's look at the UK again for an example. In 1996 they had the Dunblane massacre. Parliament immediately acted and by the end of the year laws were changed. Since 1996 there has been no school shootings in the UK at all and there has only been 1 mass shooting. Columbine massacre happened in the USA in 1999. What has happened since then? Well Congress let lapse the Federal Assault Weapons Ban in 2004. Providing easier access to assault rifles and high capacity magazines of ammunition. We average 1 mass shooting a week and at least 1 school shooting a month. We average 30 gun homicides a day. And in 2017 Stephen Paddock purchased 55 assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition in the form of high capacity magazines in order to commit the largest individual gun massacre in US history. So what can the US do to reduce gun violence? Pass more gun control laws is one thing. But that only has a certain limited effect. What we really need to do is to repeal the 2nd amendment and turn gun ownership into a privilege instead of a right. Instead of a well regulated militia, we need a well regulated system of gun ownership.

I'm a Brit, in 1996 there was a mass shooting at a primary school in Scotland, in a town called Dunblane. A gunman killed 15 children, one teacher and injured 15 others before killing himself. A tragic story that we have heard from the US far too many times in the last few decades. In response to the massacre in Dunblane and the public outcry the government passed two new Firearms Acts within one year of the attack which banned public ownership of almost all handguns and rifles to the public. There has been no other mass shooting in Britain before or since that attack in 1996. I think that story truly speaks for itself. I hope beyond hope that America can see that it is possible, it is necessary and that you can hunt deer with a bow and arrow just as well and you get the added bonus of never fearing your childs life from a gun when they go to school. Carmen - That's the difference in NZ and the US. Our gun rights were given to us to use against the government if or when they become oppressive. NZ is a different can of worms, because your head of state is the un elected queen, or dictator to be precise, and you live under the Monarchy rules, where you are subjects to the will of the royal family. They own everything, including your guns, and you are granted the privilege to own them. At any time that privilege to own those guns or any property, can be taken away and the government will take back their property. It's why they call it a gun buyback, everything belongs to the rulers in Buckingham Palace. Recently they decided they want their guns back, so they told Jacinda and the other puppets to pass a law and confiscate them, not because they are worried about your safety, they are worried that those guns could be used to overthrow them. "These are military styled weapons and we can't let you subjects have equal firepower with our military and police". When the nutcase did the massacre, they used this tragedy to take the guns from millions of people that did nothing wrong, and if you disagree, well then you must be sympathetic to that mass shooter, or you must be someone that doesn't care if young children are murdered with these guns.

Our Prime Minister Jacinda has done such a great job, she knows exactly what she wants for being serious about a situation in our country rather than the country having stubborn politicians who didn’t do anything, other than other countries that have people that don’t like our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has done stuff that is a lesson learnt for other leaders, but it only gets worrying about when Jacinda retires from NZ Prime Minister then are we gonna get a Prime Minister who will also be as serious as Jacinda, or will we get another stubborn leader

I don't agree with Ardern on some things but she handled herself well, she's not some prop for the American left and their mouthpieces in the media to bash Trump.

Safety over freedom; this is what you get when you put a woman in charge.

Yes, women for the most part aren't fit to be politicians since they are emotionally unstable. Candance Owens I would make an exception for :)

*Candance Owens I would make an exception for :)* Candace Owens would be one of the worst women to ever get into office along the lines of people like Sarah Palin. Owens is a street ho made conservative speaker and if i had to choose between a street ho and a homely woman the homely woman wins.

@@trolljones4386 That's cool man, not here though. She speaks truth to power and makes the point that black america is worse off on the democratic plantation with "gimmedats" than under trump where they have the lowest black unemployment in history now. Enjoy diddling the homeley woman, but I will continue to admire the beautiful and talented Candace Owens and her awesome oratory skills. Did you see the 20 minute video of her in front of congress - you don't find that impressive despite thinking she is "a street ho?" :)

Your politicians serve corporations and put's there needs before US citizens....all aspects of American life are controlled by corporations. New Zealanders don't walk around in constant fear of everything that moves. Only 2 socialist states exist in the world yet Americans are indoctrinated to believe the RED scare BS like it's the height of the COLD War LOL Home of the Brave that put's brown children in concentration camps :)

@@ngatibroffessor1840 he's right though. How much emotions do you go through daily? It's the truth. Doesn't mean women are hated.

Very simple fact, if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns. Who in there sane mind with even the most minimal common sense would think otherwise? This is called "insane reality".

As it is illegal to use a firearm in the act of self defence in New Zealand your argument is mute. We simply don’t have the gun related crime rate America does as it is illegal to carry guns and must be kept in a registered gun safe at all times not in use. Hunting and certain sanctioned sport shooting activities is the only justification for gun licenses and it is well regulated. We legally don’t, wouldn’t and can’t use guns as self defence simple. We aren’t cowboys.

There are any number of countries that ban most guns or at least make it difficult to obtain a permit....and you don't hear about the rampaging criminals going on shooting sprees, do you? Your insane reality thrown back at you.

@@hakaboy6924 "We legally don’t, wouldn’t and can’t use guns as self defence simple." You seem to speak for a lot of New Zealanders. It is funny to me that a national poll isn't taken to ask them if they should be allowed to use force against others. The poll hasn't been taken so how would you even know?
