I have stage 4 endometriosis (TMI: spread all over my uterus, intestines, sciatic nerve and rectum), I was told that I was infertile at 12. I'm now 22 and me and my man are expecting a baby boy in January 2020 (I'm 33+1 today!). We're super excited as we thought that I would never get pregnant and if I did that something would go wrong! This video helped me a lot!! Thank you

Update: I had my baby 23.01.2020. It was an easy birth, only 5 and a half hours active labour. Only thing is that I didn't go to the hospital as I didn't feel the difference between my usual flare up pain from the actual contractions. xD I came in at 7cm after my bf threw me in the car and forced me to the hospital. What would I do without him? xD

For muslin swaddled try the new target cloud island brand!! They are $13 for three and they are bigger and softer than the aiden and anais blankets. Just FYI for those looking for a cheaper option.

I so agree on the prefold cloth diapers. We bought prefolds thinking we'd use them as nappies, but ended up using them for everything else instead, and had to buy twice as many in order to not "run out" between washes. We use them for burping, under babys head when sleeping and breastfeeding (in case of spilling), when changing nappies etc. They are soft, they hold a lot of moisture so don't leak through and can handle "accidents" on the changing table very well! I have no idea how other parents survive without prefolds. I have gotten around to using them as nappies also! Love, love, love prefolds.

A little correction to something I said in this video. I accidentally said “One of my boys wanted to be swaddled until 9 months old...” I meant to say “9 WEEKS!” The AAP doesn’t recommend swaddling past 8 weeks old. Also, our Dockatot is never used with the baby unattended. For more safe sleep guidelines from the AAP please follow the link in the description box! Though we don’t follow the guidelines PERFECTLY we have followed up with our pediatrician and have discussed our children’s sleeping arrangements with him. We always urge our audience to seek the council of medical professional if they have any questions.

This is super important as babies can start to roll at 8 weeks and if they are swaddled they may get stuck in a dangerous position. Thanks so much for clarifying!!

My son is 3 months and rolls over in his sleep and I swaddle him every night. During the night he frees his arms and only his bottom half is swaddled this helps him from throwing the blanket on his face and keeps him warm. Btw every in the home checks on him in the middle of the night since he does roll over. I try my best to turn him facing up every time I wake up.

I'm a feminist, and sadly I hear a lot of other feminists who are professionals in some field or another give grief to stay-at-home moms. But the thing is, some people were born for the caretaking/teaching role. Some people were just meant for this and are so so so so good at it. We - society as a whole - NEED these people. Not only do the little humans you encounter in your lifetime benefit from your care, but so many others do, too, because you share these things with them. As a feminist, I do not denounce this. I praise you. You are raising healthy, happy human beings who will one day contribute to society. Keep up the fantastic work, and thanks for sharing!
@jyotipun1

Anyone who says they are feminist and look down on stay at home mums do not know what feminism means... feminism is not about woman following a career and denouncing being a housewife... feminism is the freedom to choose what you want to do regardless of the so-called gender roles assigned by the society...
@twoscoopz4944
@twoscoopz4944 7 жыл бұрын
Most third wave feminists do look down on stay at home moms though--not stay at home dads, because that's progressive, just moms. It's not logical, it's just pathetic.

Imagine if a Mormon commented on a woman's profession, "As a Mormon, I do not denounce this. I praise you!" No one asked for your group's approval. It's ironic that "feminists" think giving out stamps of approval (in lieu of shaming) to SAHM is anything but infantilizing, misogynistic, and cultish behavior.

And just to clarify, dear two scoopz, I do research in child development - mostly cognition/brain development, but also overall health and psychology - and I have a passion for my job. I have met many other women in the work place who have no concern for any type of maternity leave following the birth of their children. They have no interest in staying home to be with them. Additionally, they look down on women who do so - or women who choose not to work outside the home at all. This is damaging. That's what I was getting at. You sound like you need to go get laid.

I think that's a bit fastidious. I mean sure if you are literally only going to be either holding your baby or having then in their bassinet (another must have, somewhere to sleep) but most parents want to be able to put their baby someone safe, comforting and stimulating for them while they get a chance to eat, nap, shower etc. Also how are feeding your baby? You need bottles, a way to sterilize them even if you breast feed you likely need some equipment to assist with that. How do you bath your baby? No baby bath? No even anything in the sink to help you support them? What do they sleep in? Just a onesie?? No swaddle? No sleep bag?

I absolutely loved my sleep sacks for my newborn. My hospital actually gave us one and we were gifted one as well. I practiced swaddling so many times with those huge aden & anais blankets and neither me or my husband could get it right on our baby. Middle of the night...just changed a diaper, baby is crying, we're exhausted. Behold: the sleep sack. Wrapping up your baby the right way every time with ease! It made our lives much easier for many months :) I like the ones that also let their arms go out the sides so that when they really want to move their arms, they can and you can wrap it slightly looser so it's just like a safe blanket as well. To each their own! I agree with you about a lot of the other things you mentioned, especially the cute newborn clothes, and yes we enjoyed our swing/bouncer combo like the one you have.

I absolutely love my daughter’s Muslin swaddlers! She’s too big to swaddle, but they can be used for so much. Right now, I like to use them when we’re out and about as a drape to put over her stroller when she’s sleeping or if it’s raining. And when she’s older, they’ll be great summer blankets for her bed. I definitely swear by these.

I'm a grandmother and find today's must have items quite interesting. I've seen a couple of vloggers using the Velcro swaddleds and they seem to work for them. However I so wish there had been giant muslin cloths when. Mine were babies. I didn't co sleep it I'm sure if I'd had a dockatot it would have been brilliant. One mom actually puts her one year old I. His cot in it so yes. Brilliant. It's amazing seeing generational differences

Natalie Bennett My must haves were Muslin squares that were used as burp clothes and every morning when I remade the Moses basket ( another must have) downstairs and the rocking cradle upstairs I put a fresh cloth folded across the top of the matress over the sheet in the theory that only that needed washing . Washable breast pads I used Cloth diapers and for those first few days I used the pre folded ones you used as burp cloths my American aunt sent them to me and wow they were great, later on I used them to make overnight diapers when they started sleeping through. Almond oil for nipples Oh I had a lovely fisher price mobile that played Brahms lullaby that was used from birth but only at nighttime bed time to get used to bed time All four of mine including son wore long soft brush cotton nightdresses for the first four weeks and unless going out they wore Day and night so much easier than snaps in babygros Think that's probably it so not to different today just tweaked from the olden days back in the 80's Oh I had a baby bouncer that I doubled as an improvised uninvented play gym , I hung different items on it like ribbons and bells so that they could touch as they moved their arms

@julieannemichelle 7 жыл бұрын
Tracy Cook I agree with you as far as the differences between the different generations and their must haves. One of my must haves I don't hear about as much as I did when I was having babies is a gown for the baby to sleep in. I had many more gowns for my newborns than sleepers. They were so easy and easy access for changing the baby in the wee hours of the night. One thing that hasn't changed is the double folded cloth diapers that I used for burp cloths etc.🌺

Generational differences are definitely interesting, even more so between 3 generations! I talked to my grandmother about it (she had children in the late 50s, early 60s) and she said “It’s crazy how many unnecessary items there are for babies these days... like carseats. We just stuck them in a bassinet and threw them in the back. We didn’t even have seatbelts”. 😂

"That takes up so much space" or "She won't need this till like 7 months why get it now?" This definitely confirmed a lot of my feelings about things and that I can wait on so it doesn't take space.

Totally agree about sleepers. They are so cute and comfy and easy to change. All it takes is one blowout in baby skinny jeans to swear by sleepers. My other must have is a side to side swing (not front to back). I have found the side to side motion much more soothing

Your voice is literally so soothing lol but great video especially since my baby is due next week and trying to get as much info as possible. Skipped purchasing a lot of "fancy" items. The one I did splurge on was the halo bassinett since it was recommended to me since I'm having a c section. We'll see how it goes. Love the idea about the cloth diapers and have added those to my list. Never would have thought of it so thank you!

A bassinet in arms reach of the bed is great if your newborn spits up a lot. When they start crying in the night you can reach your hand in and feel around for spitup without getting up or turning the lights on. No spit, then you can roll over till feeding time. Nothing is worse than getting up out of the bed 20 times cause they might have spat up again.

I agree with most of these, except the velcro swaddlers. Those were amazing and a total life saver. My daughter lived in a solid white onesie and a swaddler for the first 3ish months and then we switched to sleep sacks. I do know how to use a muslin swaddler, however; middle of the night in the dark one little velcro piece was much less to fumble on while tired. I also regretted sleepers with buttons al the way down because like the swaddlers, I woke up in the morning to find a baby leg poking out of the sleeper because I was half asleep and missed a few buttons and completely forgot a leg. lol Sleepers are great for the day but when sleep exhaustion kicks in at 3am. The less you have to struggle on the better. One zipper, one button, or one zelcro piece is just about all I could manage to make work.

.... but I bought 500x's more baby items that I'd ever use on my daughter and I loved the zelcro swaddlers so much if I ever had another child that would be one thing that is one of my top must haves.

I actually think the sleepers are complicated to take on and off, especially for diaper changes. I prefer the short sleeve onesies. Sleepers are also too hot for a TX baby, even with the A/C on! I liked the swaddle clothes but wasn't super crazy about them. The flannel Cloud Island blankets are the best for swaddling, muslin blankets are too cumbersome, thin and flimsy, and he's too small for them right now. Also agree that cloth diapers are the best for burp cloths, mats, etc!! We don't use a rocking swing for the baby, at least so far at almost 3 months old. He's pretty self-sufficient and doesn't need a lot of rocking. We just have a bassinet with mesh all around the sides plus a Day Dreamer chair (not a fan of the Doc-a-Tot)...and a crib of course! Plastic tub is kind of a pain to store, but he likes it ok :) Good tips overall!

The Aden ones are the best BUT if you worry about SIDS and You are a mom who wakes up every so often to check if the blanket is on their face you will be better off with the Velcro ones I personally used the Velcro ones with both my daughters they truly gave me a peace of mind especially at night when we both were sleeping I would use the Aden blankets more in the day time when I was awake and she was in my sight

TO make flannel receiving blankets absorbent, wash them at least 5 times to wash of the natural oils that exist in the fibers. They do end up being very absorbent. I use them as diapers.

I used the Velcro swaddles and especially zip up ones because I had a preemie. He was big enough to be a newborn when he came home but wasn’t at the developmental age to out grow it until about 3 months(we discussed this with his doctor before continuing but felt comfortable as he wasn’t rolling over). Also, it was the winter and preemies have such a hard time with body temperature that it helped keep him warn durning naps and at night. I love the Muslin swaddles now that he’s older and sleeps with them at 18 months as a blanket and we feel comfortable with him sleeping with it. I totally get what you are saying for full term babies but for my preemie the premade swaddle it was a life saver.

I'm pregnant with my first. 32 weeks. Thanks for this video. The only thing I don't agree with is the Velcro swaddlers. I used to be a nanny and for the life of me...the mother or no amount of KZbin videos could teach me how to use swaddle blankets...I JUST DON'T GET IT!!! So, I just ordered some of Velcro swaddlers in various sizes just to make my life easier. Lol.

I can relate to the plastic sink tub not working well for baby being happy, keeping baby warm and taking up way to much space. At the time I did not know about blooming bath and got so frustrated with it all. I eventually said I am done with all this and brought baby into our bathtub with me and that is what we did for several years. He loves bath time with daddy :) Also swaddle muslin blankets are my favorite as well as having a bunch of cotton diaper inserts around.

For the cloth diaper absorbent pads, if you know someone that spends anytime in an operating room you can get a whole bunch of gauze like wash clothes for free, they come in huge packs and soon as they are open they are no longer sterile so someone bleeds a little bit they need a couple of the clothes and then the rest of the pack will be thrown away, or someone there can take them home...work amazing for spit up and what not.

My daughter may have been the only baby that didn't sleep better in our bed. We agreed we wouldn't co-sleep before she was born, but there were many desperate nights when I tried. No go. And now, at 17 months, I cant imagine her even attempting to sleep in our bed. She would think it was playtime for sure. We tried a bassinet, which she hated, and then we used her rock n play next to our bed for a few weeks. She has been in the crib since she was 6 weeks old and will only sleep there, in a pack n play, or in the car (rarely these days). I'm grateful we dont have a toddler in our bed every night, that's for sure. Also, my daughter didn't like the wubanub until she was a bit older and had more control over her hands and mouth. It definitely got in the way in the beginning and we just used a soother. However, later it was SO helpful in helping her put the pacifier back in her mouth or find it in the crib. She still uses it for sleeping.

I'm having my first summer baby in August. My boys were born in the fall and winter. They hated to be swaddled, but I plan to attempt to swaddle our little girl. (Using the muslin blankets) I have heard some people say to just put a onesie on them for swaddling and I see others with a sleeper. We live in South Carolina and it's miserable in August. I won't have her outside in the heat and we keep our a/c on 70 degrees. I guess I'll just see what she does best with when she gets here. This video was great and made me feel better about my decision to not purchase a Mama-roo! Congratulations again on your little girl! Beautiful baby!

Amen on the sleepers! That's literally all my baby wore the first couple months; I had a few fancy things but there was never an occasion for them. I was happy to have a Halo Sleepsack Swaddle for her because it made middle of the night changes much easier and faster. I would recommend buying them secondhand because babies do grow out of them fast.

I still have a new baby and she'd love it!! I haven't used my waste of space baby bath in a few kiddos. And the ones that did use it hardly did. Total waste of money and space!! I got a ton of the muslin swaddles and ended up going and buying a few of the Velcro swaddleme ones because no matter how tight we get the blanket on her, she would always break out and wake herself up haha. So happy she's 7 weeks old and still have some room to grow before she can't use them!

My newborn loves the plushy on the wubanub! He even holds it with one arm for comfort, I think it depends on the baby. Totally agree with the fancy arms reach co-sleeper though, that was a waste, may as well be putting him in his regular crib, ended up getting something similar to the doc-a-tot and he likes that way more. Also for me the Velcro swaddle works great and I got it for a good price and is easier, the Muslin is great but I have practiced so much and he squirms right out of it! I still have you a thumbs up because I think some of this is just preference. Appreciate you taking the time to make these videos!

Love the list. What's funny is the wubbanub was a total life saver for us, we had the complete opposite issue baby kept spitting out or the regular soother kept popping out and she would be constantly crying and waking up over and over. The wubbanub actually helped hold the soother into her mouth and keep it in there. I swear by that thing, I always get it for my friends at baby showers and definitely have one in the house. I guess it just depends on the baby, but for $15 worth a try if you have issues with baby keeping a soother in their mouth.
