The 4x400 is by far my favorite relay. Although actually running it feels terrible, with the inability to breathe or even move for the last 100m, it just sucks to run. But it's always the last event of a high school meet, and that's when everyone is finished with their events so there's a big field of spectators and people cheering you on. It's just so amazing watching other people run it, too. Seeing your own teammates just zip around the track like it's nothing is so cool... And in the 4x400, the anchor leg is always the most stressful for your own team because when running 400s, everyone will probably end up finishing within 3 seconds of each other, so the anchor leg is always the most competitive leg; Something that isn't seen much in relays longer than a 4x400, because in longer relays like the 4x800, the time between you and the person behind you will most likely be twice the distance than finishing a 400, so there's less of a strong finish imo

For us we do 4 x 800 and that’s usually last
@jameshenry66552 жыл бұрын
@@massimopicca Oh wow, either way, any relay at the end of a meet is always the best, solely because of the amount of cheering from the spectators and other competitors that are finished with their events.

@@massimopicca the 4x8 s my favorite too (to run), but for us it's the first event and not many people watch, the 4x4 is last and its super fun to watch because it's usually super close and everybody is hyped because they get to leave after it, plus it's dark and the stadium lights are on

@calvinonmc2 жыл бұрын
Well I was a 5:20 guy last year and now I'm running 4:30, All you got to do is get good base miles in the winter, do miles everyday and slowly build up how many you do to prevent injury. You should aim to try to get to 40-50 per week If you are focusing on the mile. Then once you're about a month or two away from the beginning of indoor season start doing a couple to three workouts every week. One of these can be a tempo where you run four to five miles at a hard effort, around 6:00-6:30 for you I would guess, and another could be a speed work session where you do something like 8x400 with one min rest. Fartleks are also good, you can research good ways to do those. Make sure to do a long run every weekend of 12 mi or so, and do strides as much as you can, especially in the days before races. Get a long run in every weekend of 10-12 miles. Finally make sure your pre-race day is easy with a 20 minute run + strides. That is the formula to drop crazy time.

Old timer (1970 Track) commenting here. Other than 400m, these times are astronomically better than I ever ran. No doubt Newbury Park is the GOAT for cross country based on last year’s national championships. I think they are letting a golden opportunity slip away by not capitalizing on the once in a generation talent they have with the Youngs and Sahlmans. NP has some individual national records but these records don’t have overwhelming time differences and may lose the records soon. What they do have is a host of great long distance runners and should use them to set records in relays solidifying them as greatest distance HS track and field team. No one will touch their indoor mile relay record (broke it by 30 seconds). 6 seconds away in DMR outdoors and 2+ seconds indoors. Youngs will do great in 1200 and 1600 already proved with times approaching 3 and 4 minutes respectfully. In a school of 2400 they should be able to find a 400m runner faster than 53.7. Need a 51 to 52 runner. In 800m they need Aaron to run 1:50-151- not 1:56 and they’ll break it easily. Great opportunity at the Armory - new balance this year. Then set outdoor record in Spring
