The subject of monopolies or "trusts" is hugely important and far too neglected in recent decades. In the US, antitrust law has been largely defined by the Sherman Act of 1890 and the Clayton and FTC Acts of 1914. In the past half century, probably the most famous actions have been the AT&T breakup in 1982 and actions against Microsoft in 2000. However, there seems to be no action whatsoever against today's monopolies such as X, Facebook, Google, and KZbin. If we want to move forward in this arena, we need to start with a clear moral basis defining how we can support free markets while at the same time clearly defining and limiting monopolies. Has any leading intellectual addressed this? In recent decades, clearly both the facist deep state and the left have changed from opposing monopolies to enabling and controlling them.

Fascists are socialists to begin with.
@latinhero1818Ай бұрын
As much as I dislike communism and marxism, this is also why I don’t trust capitalism. It allows these monopolies to form, and has proven itself susceptible if not defenseless against them. Not to mention the state backed usury that goes into making and maintaining these sorts of corporations to begin with.
@catherinegilbert8740Ай бұрын
You should have added the big Shares companies like BlackRock and Vanguard. What are they but monopolies? There are also the massive monopolistic trusts which allow individuals and individual families to wield outsized influence using a protected source of funds that doesn't dissipate over generations.
@catherinegilbert8740Ай бұрын
@@latinhero1818 Ah, but you are falling into one of Marx's traps. He defined Capitalism as the opposite of Marxism. Capital (personal possessions which can be leveraged) exists independently of Marx. The problem is not capitalism, just the people who are controlling particular government systems and the milieu in which they are existing. One of the great problems in which we are facing is that we have funds and products that can be shipped globally and practically instantly. This is distorting properly functioning capitalist, democratic style systems which traditionally relied on local feedback.
@cyberdraceАй бұрын
I'm not sure I believe in monopolies. I think they only persist because of government regulations. The AT&T breakup was totally unnecessary and didn't achieve anything. Microsoft today is the most highly valued company ever and their power has expanded vastly. The idea of monopolies being a problem is a scam to trick people into giving government the power to protect and enable monopolistic behavior in the first place.

As an Arab Muslim, the reason I listen to you is because you're one of the few Westerners comprehending what's actually happening to his civilization. You're looking at the root causes rather than the symptoms. What keeps me listening is because I'm waiting to hear you offer a way "out" for your civilization. We both agree that Marx, as his "type" have always done, is essentially rebelling against his creator (5:78 in the Quran). And we also agree that it's obvious that Marx is an intellectual swindler; as will any person who hasn't had their intellect captured by an ideology. Yet despite how little Marx has to offer, your civilization has been hijacked by his "type" implementing his destructive ideology to drive your civilization into the ground! As a Muslim I know why this is happening (6:129 in the Quran), but I would really love to see you dedicate an episode exploring the root causes of why your civilization has been hijacked from your perspective. How does an inherently intelligent civilization get captured by something so intellectually pathetic and follow it with such dedication to its logical end? As you said, it's a death cult, so we know where this ends.

Capitalism is anti-government. What we have now in mixed markets is government forcing socialism on the business world. Because government likes its easy control of fewer entities and easier wealth extraction. BB is inherently vulnerable to smaller enterprises as they can never calculate the costs of internal processes as accurately as smaller competitors can. They are also slower to adapt to new conditions. The distortions then come from government intrusion into the private sector mandating tribute and submission. I.e. It is Socialism which enables and indeed forces market agglomeration to the detriment of the public at large ( due to higher prices and less resources for the customer )....while claiming to work for the public.

This is where General Smedley Butler's War is a Racket comes into play. A movie was made during the pandemic called Amsterdam, it was awful. I couldn't imagine what the director, David O Russell was trying to do with his ridiculous screen play, but now I know. He bastardized Smedley Butlers book and life story, he added "woke" themes in a cheap ploy to retell Butler's story. Butler, a war hero and Marine claimed that the banking cartel tried to enlist him to become Fascist dictator in America post WW1. It didnt work because Butler had ethics. But this movement was led by Prescott Bush (as in the father and grandfather of both Bush presidents respectively), it was likely to be a bulwark against Woodrow Wilson and FDR's Fabianism (Read Fabian Freeway by Rose Martin.) My point being that the Fascist movement in America was tried, but failed in the past. Historically its called The Business Plot. I guess they're trying it again. While I largely agree with most of your conclusions, I disagree with a major one. ESG is NOT primarily designed to benefit China, that was just the secondary and increasingly limited effect. The Ukranian war changed everything about how serious the powers that be took the threat of China destabilizing all their neatly laid plans for global hegemony. It's become crystal clear to them that with the Chinese not-so-covert alliance with Russia and their intent to create their own _independent_ sphere of influence through partnerships like BRICS and their Belt and Road Initiative, there's a canyon sized divide between the CCP's actual end goals and that of western ESG advocates. Here's just one of many examples of the consequences of their realization of that divide. From the Hong Kong based western facing and CCP friendly (read: controlled) SCMP: "The end of a decade-long partnership between a leading public research university in the United States and China’s Tianjin University was a “direct consequence” of a *US strategy to decouple from China in hi-tech fields,* and a worrying sign of *dwindling academic exchanges between the two countries,* analyst have warned." Basically it's a facist on facist mutually beneficial partnership turned rivalry. The west hoped that by investing HEAVILY in China, they would influence it slowly but surely into changing and becoming more like them ideologically, politically and economically (at least in terms of eliminating its protectionist instincts..) They were wrong. Honestly how could it NOT end up that way? The CCP are hyper ethnonationalists at their core. The globalists are...well globalist.
