I use the Haakaa and hand express while it’s on. Gave away my electric pump because it hurt and the Haakaa is way more comfortable and I get more milk from it each pump session. Also super convenient size to bring to work! I’m able to pump 5oz from both breast every 2-2.5 hours with the Haakaa (in a 24 hr period that’s 50oz to 60oz!!!) I recommend it to all my pregnant or breastfeeding friends and coworkers

@NewLittleLife4 жыл бұрын
Great for you! I’m due in August too with baby #3 😁 The best thing you can do is find out what resources are available to you in your area. Is there an IBCLC (lactation consultant) at your hospital? Or maybe a private practice one that can come to your house? Does you insurance cover visits with them? Do you have/qualify for WIC lactation help? These are all great questions to ask now so when you need help this fall, you can get it right away. It can be the difference between success and failing short of your goals. Good luck!

@millennialodyssey59564 жыл бұрын
Make sure next time in the hospital you ask all questions even the ones you think you know already. Don't hesitate to go back to a lactation consultant the moment you begin to struggle. Ask the consultants for information before you leave the hospital on how and where you can get a hold of them or come in for one on one help. This all made a difference for me by the time my 2nd child came I was set. I had all my questions answered knew all the tricks and tips and knew exactly where to go for latching help. I breastfed my third and fourth without any outside help. But if I needed it I knew exactly who to call and where to go. Congrats!

you’re supposed to squeeze the bottle part as well when putting it on so it creates suction in order to actually pump, which is probably why you’re saying it only catches a little bit. just a thought.
@NewLittleLife5 жыл бұрын
If I understand correctly what you’re saying, yes you do squeeze it to create suction putting it on. It definitely pulls out more that just a milk saver would! What it lacks is the repeating rhythmic suction that an electric pump or baby provides. Constant suction just won’t get as much milk out as rhythmic suction.
@SuperFunJess5 жыл бұрын
What she’s trying to say is that if you fold the top that’s flared out down over the neck and then squeeze the big round bottom, it gets a much more intense suction when you place it against the skin. I almost didn’t get this because all the reviews were like yours saying to just squeeze the round bottom and it didn’t get very good suction, but ran into a review where the lady showed how to get much more intense suction with it so I ended up getting it.

I've heard the same thing about the Haakaa not emptying you but in my experience..I for sure empty. I get more milk from my haakaa than my Madeala. I tested this by storing my Haakaa session and letting it sit in the fridge. Looked at it about an hour later... The fore milk settled while you could clearly see the hind milk in the middle and the fatty layer on top. I also get closer to 4-6oz from my haakaa rather than 1oz-4oz. I also can double pump using a Haakaa on both sides.

It definitely won’t empty the breast like a typical pump will. If you’re a working mom needing to pump lots a day without baby, definitely not. But to use along with feedings you could totally get away without a electric breast pump! So it just depends on your goals/needs I suppose.

I have no idea why I'm struggling so much with my Haakaa. At first it made sense, it worked fine. Now that I'm more experienced breastfeeding my baby, I started using the Haakaa again to collect the let down and it only collects so little, some of it spills from the bottom of the flange, and it hurts. It makes me breast red and leaves the circle marks. I don't know what to do.

I've had 7 babies, and have breastfed for 14 years. I am not a pumping expert, but one thing I've found in my personal experience is that the more children I've had, and the longer I've breastfed, the less milk just squirts out by itself. With my first children, I had leaking milk all the time, especially in the first few weeks and months of breastfeeding. The longer the child is breastfeeding, for me, the less I leak, even though I'm making tons of milk. With my first kids, I never had clogged ducts, with my latest kids, I've had more. Maybe it's your body regulating milk more efficiently?
@kaitlynrunion41922 жыл бұрын
These things give me maybe a single drop of milk lol. Literally, like one drop. Not even a ml. And I've followed the tutorials, honestly. I don't leak though so I guess that's why. And it turns me dark purple and I can't imagine that that's good. Such a bummer because I see so many raving reviews.

@NewLittleLife5 жыл бұрын
Yes, as soon as your milk comes in (around day 3-5) this is a great tool. You’ll likely have a little too much milk for a while so this is a great way to catch what leaks out anyway. This will NOT empty the breast, so there should be plenty left for baby. Feel free to cup or syringe feed any milk from the haakaa at the end of the feed if baby takes both breasts and wants more.

I have been using my haaka on the opposite side while my baby nurses since day 3 or 4 post delivery. I am wondering..if I use it every time I nurse, is that going to cause oversupply? I am about a week postpartum now and am feeling like my breasts don't empty completely even after my baby nurses. Also very engorged in the mornings. Should I cut back using the haaka to every other feed? Or is what I'm describing necessary and not a sign of oversupply? It’s most effective while feeding. It’s not like a regular electric pump and you may have a hard time stimulating a let down without the baby feeding in the other side. It probably can be done, but other than the suction there’s no regular pulsing to empty the breast.
