I’ve always loved New Order and their songs have bookmarked my life. I’ve recently been diagnosed with stage IV cancer and am not expected to have very long. It’s so frightening. I know they’re on tour, but the nearest date to me is in October and it’s very possible I won’t be here then. Listening to this reminds me of being so happy and genuinely without a worry in the world. I feel so sad knowing where that young woman was heading. I wish we could just do the happy bits, over and over. x

Regret. That title is scary. I don’t ever want to regret anything. Living in the past lately I have been though. I see the mistake. Today I’m gonna do the things I most am scared to. Like forgive. This song takes me back to a better time. So nieve and innocent. Everything was fresh, exciting , life was not stale. But today it reminds me that I have today. New Order. A chance for new memories

That's a stretch lol .. August 1993, my first time in London with my backpack, staying at Holland Park Youth Hostel. One sunny morning while having breakfast in the hostel I was watching MTV, like many others, and suddenly I had the surprise of a fellow singing "Maybe I forgotten...", and I never forgot New Order's "Regret" because it became the music of that joyful time, of my adventures, of my youth going around and having fun in good old Europe. A very different time, a so clean London having litters everywhere and with people naturally smiling in the parks or squares... Nowadays, we have so much music available at hand on KZbin, but in those times a cassette or an LP was the standard, or just the fortune to get those precious and surprising seconds on MTV. Thank you, fellows!! Best regards from Buenos Aires

I was stationed in Germany in 1993 when the song came out I had completely forgotten about New Order until then. ten years later I'm sitting on top of a roof in Kandahar Afghanistan in the middle of the night when I heard this song from a car below me. My mind went back to 1993 and Germany, sitting in my living room watching the video on MTV most wanted with Ray Cokes

Absolutely fantastic. I was body surfing at Makapu'u the day this song was released in North America far away from the shore and it is a magical deep water break. When I was on my way over to Sandy Beach (almost the opposite of Makapu'u as normally it has vicious shore break depending on the time of year) I heard this song on the FM station 98 Rock for the first time. I had a great audio set up and cranked it way up. I will never forget that day or this song. The progressions, musicianship, lyrics, odd time signatures, as well as the bass, are literally spellbinding and universal. This song is timeless. Thank you very much.

I would give EVERYTHING I own to go back to the early 90s and stay 15 forever. Wearing out my batteries on my Walkman playing my tapes of Siouxie, Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, etc. (I've always been a Brit music obsessed American-you guys across the pond do it better 😊). Something about this song, in particular, really takes me back to a cold and rainy autumn day in like 1994, walking home from school and playing this song. So damn nostalgic.

People that were teenagers then don't know how lucky they are, although I'm sure you do. Got into this band around my early 20s, ten years ago and agree, our country is a cultural superpower!

Lyrics Maybe I've forgotten The name and the address Of everyone I've ever known, It's nothing I regret Save it for another day, 'cause The school is out And the kids have run away I would like a place I can call my own Have a conversation on my telephone Wake up everyday, that would be a start I would not complain 'bout my wounded heart I was upset, you see Almost all the time You used to be a stranger Now you are mine I wouldn't even trust you I've not that much to give We're dealing in the limits, And we don't know who with You may think that I'm out of hand That I'm naive, I'll understand On this occasion, it's not true Look at me, I'm not you I would like a place I can call my own Have a conversation on the telephone Wake up everyday, that would be a start I would not complain 'bout my wounded heart I was a short fuse Burning all the time You were a complete stranger Now you are mine I would like a place I can call my own Have a conversation on the telephone Wake up everyday, that would be a start I would not complain 'bout my wounded heart Just wait 'till tomorrow I guess that's what they all say Just before they fall apart

It’s suppose to be “ It’s the school exam, and the kids have run away.” The person who did the lyrics at the description wrote it wrong, whomp whomp.

This song came out at a significant point in my life. Was in my 20’s & was just coming to the realization that I needed to move out of my parent’s home. We were starting to battle a bit & it was just that I was too old to be living under their roof with their rules. So it was time for me to venture out on my own which I did shortly afterwards. I know this song isn’t quite about that situation. I think it’s a love song & about fighting w your partner ? Anyway, the refrain ‘I would like a place that I could call my own’ kept ringing in my ears that year….

This song has aged extremely well. The guitar hooks, production value, how the whole thing works together is just extremely well done. I remember my buddy blasting this on his rack system in the early '90s... and I really didn't "get it." Now I can appreciate it better.
